The fix was in on this case from the moment that this inexperienced Trump appointed judge was inexplicably put in charge of trying a case so central to the US national security. "Trying the case" is the central phrase. She is determined to ensure that the case does not come to trial. If Trump wins in November this case along with all other Federal prosecutions will disappear in the resulting emasculation of the judicial system, States will come under almost irresistible pressure to abandon theirs. If Trump loses in November then the gloves will come off in an attempt to bully and threaten the judicial system. Either way, the rule of law and democracy in the US faces a huge existential threat. Once he has the executive branch, the legislative branch and has destroyed the legislative branch, musing about a third term is the least of your worries, you will have a dictatorship, plain and simple. It will be over. Trump or his anointed successors. Still, it will be vaguely amusing watching assorted political sycophants scavenging through the debris.

Tourism campaign in the works to promote second-tier provinces
herfiehandbag replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Given the amount of pollution caused by indiscriminate burning in many of these rural provinces, they may care to rethink the slogan "Ignite Tourism Thailand"? -
Iranian president, foreign minister killed in tragic helicopter crash
herfiehandbag replied to webfact's topic in World News
Having been a soldier, I have spent a fair amount of time belting around the countryside in helicopters. Never much liked it, especially Chinooks; never really liked the idea of flying in an aircraft which was capable of having a collision with itself! -

45 year old helicopter flying through mountains in thick fog. What could possibly go wrong? -
Trump Demands Drug Test for Biden Ahead of First Debate

Because, well, that's all he has got really. Biden is an old man, but Trump is no spring chicken. At least Biden isn't reduced to paying porn stars for a quickie! -

Thailand Imposes Alcohol Ban for Visakha Bucha Day on May 22

They pulled that stunt during COVID you may remember -an indefinite alcohol ban. Didn't really work. -
But obviously not beyond the bumper sticker on the pick up in front of you at the car park of the latest Trump Rally! And yes I think the protesters are stupid and self indulgent, and I hope the police were forceful, especially against any screaming poofs attempting to justify slaughter and mass rape ( sorry, deeply concerned and engaged non binary protesters) with pink or fluorescent hair!

Well now, having cleared and re installed "Brave Browser" at least twice, across three platforms, computer, tablet and phone ( my primary means to access this forum) it is clear that AN is blocking access on "Brave". Interesting that the new owners have taken upon themselves to dictate which browser we can use, and have done so without having even the vestigial courtesy to announce it. Meanwhile on Chrome it is drowning in advertisements for health insurance and bloody tic toc!

Thailand's reversal on cannabis serves as a warning
herfiehandbag replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I have just shown this picture to my four dogs. They are on a high following a noisy but ultimately effective hunt for "the enemy", a 9" gecko which has been roaming the kitchen for the last week or so. They are ready to go, where do we start? -
Thailand's reversal on cannabis serves as a warning

Really? You really think so? On this one issue or across the board? Missing the "smack of firm government" are we? Or is cheap and easy access to wacky baccy the beginning and end of life? In my opinion, whilst there is plenty to criticise about this government ( including the chaotic way they are approaching this matter) they are incomparably better, and the people are happier with them, than with what went before! -
Senators Petition Court to Consider Impeaching PM Srettha
herfiehandbag replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
As ever democracy is not even in the frame. I am alone in finding it hilarious that members of a Senate, appointed by a Military Junta, and which is currently engaged in replacing itself in an act of blatant cronyism, are bringing an impeachment case for ethical reasons! 😂 -
Thaksin had money, and influence. This young Lady had neither. Tragically, with her death will now come influence. The progressive movement, and it's young cohorts have a martyr. I doubt they wanted one, but they now have someone who is a focus, who is beyond the reach of those who imagine they are born to rule, and refuse to realise that the tide is inexorably turning. They must keep her memory alive.

Thai Airways Offloads Boeing and Airbus Jets in Slimdown Effort
herfiehandbag replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Apparently the aircraft are some 80% constructed from imported parts. The engines are from the "previous generation" which makes them significantly less efficient than the latest Boeing and Airbus. The construction capacity is limited to something like (I can't remember exactly) two aircraft a month. -
Germany's Domestic Intelligence Service Battles Far-Right AfD
herfiehandbag replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I remember in Germany back in the late 70s and early 80s (I was in the British Army) the local shooting clubs holding their annual "Schutzenfests". Great piss ups, as the night got longer the singing, from amongst those in the age group around 60 or so got interesting. I also remember being at a place called "Putlos" for a skill at arms range camp. At the weekend the local German VKK ( TA or Home Guard) turned up. Again, on Saturday night, the singing got " interesting"! If I can paraphrase Gerry Adams: " they haven't all gone away you know". Look on Google for German Army torchlight swearing in ceremonies - they are "rediscovering" some old traditions, not just an enthusiasm for wearing tin hats on parade!
