It was there because his slave trading was ignored.

I agree, Brits need to know that we only entered the slave trade after it was fully established and had been going on for 100's years before we got involved and it was us who outlawed slavery and put a stop to it .
Britain outlawed slavery

Developed the place on the backs of torturing and enslaving people? Proud of that are you?
So I can rob your house and give the proceeds to an old people's home....is that ok?
I dunno, which old peoples home would you give it to ?

Just pointing out the reason why the statue was there in the first place , it was there because of the financial contribution he made to the town

Wrong. It is up to the public to decide....or would you prefer a dictatorship?
He quite Cleary meant individual members of the public , rather than a government choice (to remove the statue)

He built many of the schools and hospitals and things in Bristol and helped to develop the place

Facts are that blacks are now treated by law enforcement and whites with issues, as guilty until proven innocent.
That isnt a fact though is it, thats just what you think might be true

Racism is an industry these days .
Numerous people and groups are involved in the industry and without racism, they wouldnt exist .
Thts why they need to keep racism in the spotlight , to keep their industry going

That would be correct, same as in the USA.
No, African slaves were actually sent to the USA to work during the 17/1800's and no slaves were sent to the UK to work , slaves settled in the USA and slaves didnt settle in the UK

The British took from Africa as slaves and then invited them in 50s and 60s to work in the UK. The black population of the West Indies are all former slaves. The statue pulled down in Bristol was an 18th century slave trader.
Would be descendants of slaves then rather than actual slaves

In the West Indies, British slaves and plantations. Independant countries after WW2.
But they stayed where they were and didnt move to the UK .
Immigration after WW2 has nothing to do with the slave trade

Ah. Well that's OK then. Thanks for explaining.
Out of interest, what are the current unemployment figures, and how are they great?

Any country that had a colonial past with the slave trade will have a problem with their black population. The UK and the USA have the biggest problems with their black population and it goes back to the slave trade. There is no simple solutions for it, the best solution would have been for the UK not to invite people from the carribbean here and the USA to send all freed slaves back to Africa.
It's why I prefer to live in SE Asia, don't have those problems.
As far as Im aware, the UK didnt have any former African slaves

Where to start with how disingenuous that reply is?
First of all in the post I had replied to you asserted that you were fearful that you would be arrested for not chanting Black Lives Matter.
32 minutes ago, Jingthing said:So then you deflect to totally change the topic to be about social distancing.
It is true these protests are not social distancing and that protests are not being broken up for that reason alone.
We could have a debate on whether that is OK or not but again that has nothing to do with your original absurd assertion.
I didnt mean that literally , I was referring to the poster that claimed my silence would be violence .
Wellif that counts for violence , then I could get arrested for it
I was making the point that the poster didnt make any sense .
You then suggested that I wouldnt get arrested if I was White and I was just pointing out that a White non protestor would be more likely to get arrested than a non White protestor for non social distancing

Assuming you're white, they won't.
Complete opposite actually .
Non protestors are not allowed to congregate in groups of over 6 people and may face arrest
These rules do not apply to protestors and they can do whatever they want without fearing arrest

Just so you know, almost ever county in the US has free covid testing. Here is an article from a local paper.
If you have insurance which more than 90 percent of Americans do then it is probably free at the local clinic or doctor's office.
Everyone I know who wants a test in the states has gotten them and no one I know of was charged $1,900.
What does that have to do with this topic ?
This thread is about Thailand , nothing to do with USA

He didn't seem too see anything bad in what went on and implied the incident was "a great thing".
Stop it with these untruths .
Trump did not say that incident was "a great thing "
The "Great thing" reference was in regards to the latest unemployment figures

Like I said: you don't see the difference...no matter how much I explain, you would not get it!
Some people just don't understand "things"!
Have a nice day!
OK, I thoroughly understand .
You have a logical and intelligent explanation to explain your thought process .
But, you wont tell us what it is, because we arent clever enough to understand .
Fair enough , I suppose....................my fault for not being clevererer enough

Was you there in school with him ?
