The Chinese tour companies were beating the Thai's down to their absolute rock bottom price.  There's no "golden goose" with the Chinese.

Then, there is the "zero baht" tourism.  Chinese companies with Thai nominees owning hotels, restaurants, boats, buses etc.

The hotel staff, bus drivers, restaurant waitresses etc were 300 baht a day Thai's, with the profits remaining in China, because the tour / holiday was paid for in China.  So, it creates some employment for low paid Thai's, and that's about it.  There's also the possibility that many Lao, Burmese, Vietnamese and Cambodians were working in Chinese owned establishments, so Thailand sees next to nothing from the millions of Chinese tourists.

The funny one was the fake Thai Temple that a Chinese company set up to cut out the real temples.

Well, som nam na! That's what I say.

They can still milk the farang; the Chinese are just smarter.

I find it hard to feel sorry for most locals here who want to be involved in the tourist industry.

For example, my elderly (mid 60s) mom arrived yesterday and the bludgeoning airport taxi driver refused to use the meter and creamed her for 700. That's just one example, of many.

It just makes me lose whatever respect and sympathy I had for locals involved with tourists.

    Anyway, such as life.

There’s a couple ‘decent’ ones just up from Soi 11 (to 7)… under Skytrain stairs. Good people watching. 100 baht a short. Best to just walk past and sit at the one with the smiley people. Some go silly with the music.

    Cheers,

    So, that's a 100 for a small beer?

What is the problem if the woman dont have clits ?

Why would you be concerned about that?

Ever tried having a good time with a woman like that? Didn't think so

Aside from that, it's kinda worrying as a citizen of the world that there are religious nutcases out there cutting off the clitorises of babies. It is standard practice for Muslims in Indonesia (which is like 98% of the population)

And just a reminder: these people are reproducing like rabbits and the rest of us aren't. Think about that.

Sure but Thailand drinking isn't based around beer.

It's tradition is rice whiskey, around 80bht for a big bottle of 40% proof.

And if you were paying 130bht for a beer, I assume you were drinking in a whorehouse of some description, which always costs more anywhere in the world.

All the bars downtown charge 130 for a pint after 8pm. Some are 160 even. Just regular bars (e.g. sports bars, Irish, American etc etc).

Some even charge that a small bottle, Jesus.

Thais drink beer primarily, have done for decades. Only the down n outs drink rice spirit.

And they don't even excel at rice spirit either. Tastes like turpentine.

That would make things hard. Listen folks who rent chairs are there for a good time, at least I am. That means you expect to be ripped off with expensive food and drinks. Just yesterday a sea bass was 700thb at a place on Koh Larn so paying an extra 50 thb for the comfy lounge chair didn't matter. Maybe if you're a repeat customer they could cut you some slack.

I get your point, but it's the principle of it.

They are both cheap to live but Thailand is cheaper, girls are hotter and the Thai food is way better. Why live anywhere else???

Thailand ain't cheap. I was paying 130 baht for a pint of fizzy urine last night. Pretty much every Asian country has better beer than Thailand.

Vietnam is cheap. Laos is cheap. Cambodia too.

The girls are pretty similar, depends what you like, I suppose. I do like Thai women and just about most Asians, particularly tropical SE Asian ones.

    From my experience:

    - Filipino women tend to have hairy legs.

    - Thai women tend to have hairy pussies.

    - Vietnamese are the thinnest.

    - Indonesians are the darkest and mostly haven shaven pussies, too bad they are all missing their clits.

    - Malays are the fattest.

I wouldn't want to live in a Muslim country, that's for sure

Thai food sucks in comparison to: Indian, Mexican, Lebanese, Greek, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Indian, even British (quality of ingredients, I mean, not culinary genius).

I can think of loads of reasons to live elsewhere: safe roads, decent people, good ingredients at reasonable prices, fresh air, clean countryside, clean seas, cool climate, less buroceacracy, democracy, mature people, ethical society, healthy food etc. etc.

    But Thailand is more.......fun, alas!

  7. You gotta love the Indians.....they walk into a massage parlor and try to negotiate a foot massage for 100 baht each, cos there is half a dozen of them. Lol

Then, while getting their massage, they are directing the masseuse on exactly how to do it, and being a general nuisance.

Then, they leave without leaving a tip, maybe 20 baht for all of them.

My EX does massage and the stories she tells me about the Indians really crack me up.

I just think, som nam na. Nothing wrong with a taste of your own medicine once in a while.

Thais don't usually tip, esp. in restaurants.

As a foreigner in Thailand, my tipping has changed over the years. While I usually tipped a lot at the beginning, I now, mostly, just tip taxi drivers and my barber. I also tip lower sums. The main reason is that, nowadays, I often hear people, who don't know me, calling me 'kee-niaow' and 'kee-nok', just to taunt me, so I adjusted my tipping to their low expectations.

As for beggars, at least in Bangkok, most seem to be 'a fraud', either brought-in Cambodians, or scammers, while the 'real' homeless are rarely seen begging. (They just put up their plastic cup, as opposed to the aggressive Cambodian beggars, who are placed at strategic points by Thai gangs.)

Yeah, I'm the same: I don't tip much any more.

Mostly, because Thais don't tip. If my daughter was a waitress in a Thai restaurant/bar, for example, she'd get nothing -- so why should I tip people who don't tip others?

Also, service here is usually <deleted>, particularly where I hang out (farang spots). The tourist industry here is where you'll find so much scum, and it reflects in their service. Also, things are generally way overpriced in farang places, so the owner should be able to pay his staff well. Anyway, up to them.

I only really tip my barber and my kid's tutor. We'll I'd call that an end-of-year bonus/holiday pay, rather than a tip, but still.

It is rare to find service that compels me to want to tip here.

I haven't had either, yet. I keep myself clean and don't mate with people who exhibit unhygienic behaviour or sores visible anywhere, during a "meet n greet".

This may draw laughs, but I also make girls wash their hands first thing back in the room, I always have, long before Covid. As a rule I don't glove up Captain happy unless the lady insists (usually the second round is a bareback) and I've been no worse off than the odd Zithromax-cured bug here and there over decades of debauchery.

    Just wait....

OK I'm ready to spill the beans.

Contrary to all typical mainstream financial advice for older people already retired I have no stocks in non retirement accounts (all cash) but I am fully 100 percent invested in stocks in my retirement account  Have not sold and don't intend to. I may not withdrawal anything from the account for living expenses for a year or two though. Normally I've been taking 3 percent. The stocks are diversified globally and with sectors. I guess you might say I have too much skin in the game. I am avoiding checking current balances, ha ha.

    I'd say you're ball-deep, JT.
