Your phraseology suggests you are looking for hurdles rather than coming across them.
- You are no loaning banks anything, you can with draw at any time from in country or overseas.
- Thai Banks are secure, more so than some of their western counterparts (remember Northern Rock, Bearings Bank)
- No one ‘begs' for their yearly extension. You apply with the paperwork and its awarded.
All this is not hard, but some people seem to have a sense of entitlement - it is what is and the rules were there when people first came to Thailand. The only significant change is the availability of the income letter.
Not at all.
The problem I have is with the people who are content with jumping through hoops - yes sir, yes sir, three bags full sir.
I have no issue with my visa - in fact I'm probably more blessed when it comes to money than 99% of people in the forum and the vast majority of expats in the country.
However, that doesn't mean I think it's fine with how things are. This is, of course, a *developing country* - the irony being that burying your head in the sand will keep it *developing* and never *developed*.
Long term visas and the disdain with which they treat foreigners is one such area of improvement. So is education, corruption, graft, healthcare and social welfare.
Unless you're happy with how the above is being done, and the only thing of value you have to add is how "entitled" everyone is, then I suggest you don't go to any local universities or you might end up with 3 fingers in the nose. -

Why would you think immigration is out of the picture once you get a PR?
Maybe the "residency" part of "permanent residency"?

I guess your a bit old never used tinder.
Nobody said being in your house gives you the "right" to do as you want.
But you must be a bit young to think that women coming to your house, after meeting them on a hook-up app, are simply there to watch Titanic.- 4

Just going to a room is not consent for sex.
Though I like the comment of @Rmac442 as there are always 3 sides to stories like this. (or at least quite often)
Every time I've heard goss from a Thai friend about the above, they're disappointed that the guy wasn't "man enough" to go through with it. Whilst going in their best vic secrets and freshly shorn.
I doubt the ladies are happy with the netflix sans chill.- 3

You still know that you are mentioning a yearly extension based on marriage. One do not need any 2, 6 or 12 month. They could scrap all of that. If one can´t have measly 400k baht on a Thai bank account as a married person in a foreign country, one just have nothing do do there.
Just a problem that do not need to exist if people think about their security a little bit more, show some backbone and responsibility for their actions in life.
You know another problem that doesn't need to exist?
A free 400k loan to a bank in a country that could collapse or kick you out at any moment, as you spend upwards of a decade begging for a yearly extension despite having kids and being married to a national. -

What about the IO that ignores the Police Order and rejects the extension application that has all the requirements but the IO makes his own rules
Well you should be prepared to follow the laws of this crazy zany country you decided to take a risk on - including those that are not noted anywhere, those which can be bent through brown envelopes, and even those that depend on whether or not rain happened that morning ????
(At least seems to be the solution of the poster you replied to!)- 1

Not saying that they don´t do it right. The only thing I am saying is that an IO have the right to ask for more documents than the regular requirements if he so wish. Therefore it´s no use complaining. Better to bring more then you need with you, to be able to meet up against all possible wishes.
But, it´s ok for me if others want to run back and forth. Just don´t complain about it, when there is an easy solution. ????
See, no Line group needed. Just a little bit extra work and common sense to know what can happen. Actually something all already know, because it has been written tons of it on this forum.I'd love for you to explain which bit of "prepare more than the regular requirements" which is common sense, since presumably you would not know what extra documents an IO may feel like including from one case or day to another. Does it vary on what he or she had for breakfast? Maybe a fella who looked like you made a pass at his gik or he's still a bit salty from the night before?
Perhaps I'll change my line group request to divining classes. Maybe you can help me read some tarot or we can split the next winning lottery numbers?- 1

If your cats are dirty, lousy and/or covered in fleas, then it seems like the simplest solution is that you should all hop into a bath together. Make sure to really get that shampoo in, and then you can all take turns with the lice comb.

You should give us the details of your IO so we can all enjoy going to someone who can handle our visas 100% as laid out in the law, with the exact same requirements as mentioned in the Thai Embassy website and nothing more.
Since you seem to really enjoy telling other people how they aren't doing the right thing - a line group invite is the least you could do there ????- 4

Well, embassies are supposed to issue a letter if it's not possible to get back home. Some will not imo issue such a letter.
Because it's not the job of an embassy to help Thailand figure out its immigration policy.
It's (rightly) ridiculous that instead of "losing face" by doing the right thing, they'd rather play it off as a political favour that they are "obligated" to do due to an embassy request.- 1

Of course, why would a forum for expats living in Thailand have any knowledge or opinion whatsoever on taxes and bank accounts? We only know alcohol brands and the best go-go bars.

Right on schedule - the slow cooked bad news continues to arrive.
What was it last year? 5%, then 4%, then 3.5% then...?

You can apply for the Embassy letters online and they get sent to you by E-mail , so, its just a trip to immigration , which you would normally have to do anyway .
Normally, you would have to go abroad at some state to get visas, be thankful theres not a requirement now .
You just seem to want an endless free visa
No, I have all the proper visas and have always paid for them, including all of the setup, documents and requirements to pay taxes, hire staff, pay for a registered office etc.
That doesn't mean I can't call BS on it, now, does it? -
2 minutes ago, CorpusChristie said:
You can get a letter from your Embassy stating as much, then you can get a visa extension
That is correct - which requires a trip to the embassy, a trip to immigration, and then buys you another 30 days for them to come up with the new hamfisted solution.
As stated emphatically by most embassies, it is not their job to tell Thai Immigration who should or should not be staying in the country, nor to give them cues on how to deal with their own immigration policy.
Once again, the Thai approach is not as flexible or well thought out as those solutions being offered through blanket "take no action" amnesties offered in other countries with plenty of notice, nor as simple as similar countries like Vietnam which allow you no-hassle up-front payments.
Now, if you consider hopping through 4 hoops and tapping your ankles together a proper solution, then you've obviously been here for far too long.- 1

I said that there are flights out of Thailand , I didnt state that all destinations are available .
Everyone in Thailand can get a flight out to somewhere
And I'm sure you can appreciate that "a flight to somewhere" is a terrible solution, especially when the inferred argument is "most developed countries are providing a flexible useful solution whilst Thailand is still trying to avoid taking responsibility, even whilst the majority of its citizens overseas enjoy incredibly favorable visa situations".
Easy visa amnesty/extension > "flight to somewhere"- 2

No it isnt, there have been flights leaving Thailand continually throughout the pandemic
You said everyone. Australia has limited number of flights and worldwide entries for its citizens.
Unless you're suggesting that those people should go to Tanzania or whatever little island it is which will take anyone - in which case that's clearly a ridiculous argument.
Regardless, my argument that developed countries are providing easy solutions remains.- 2

This will be an interesting two weeks that is for sure ????Funny how so many people seem to think there are only tourists, elite visa holders and old farts on extensions in the country.

Many of his most vocal critics around the Chinese Flu are the same ones which called him racist earlier in the year for suggesting that they close flights to China and which said the WHO showed no evidence of it being dangerous....
Unfortunately these days they will find literally any reason to blame him for something - regardless of the facts. When the media gets their weekly buzzword it's a sight to behold how coordinated each and every outlet seems to be with stuffing it in every key sentence, and then it's just a matter of repeating it over and over again to make it truth.- 2

Most developed nations are providing long term extensions, visa waivers and other "amnesty" periods for those stuck inside the country.
That Thailand cannot even provide a framework as simple as that which Vietnam has, says plenty about its position in said ranking of "developedness".- 3

Nope, they also have a fantastic one that allows for full residency for those investing long term, with many multiple years included up front and complete certainty that you'll be looked after for that period as well as a list of easy to follow and meet conditions for acquiring it.
