Yep, and they don't want you I'm afraid, yet these guys can do anything in your own country. I think it'll only get worse, with most expats being squeezed out in favour of Asia-centric tourism.

"Asia for Asians, Africa for Africans, and western countries for everybody".

It really should be standard practice to make entry requirements reciprocal -- how come Somchai can go the long term visa route for a couple hundred $$ and then use that as credit for a PR down the track, when you need to be able to sing the national anthem backwards and translate it into Issan dialect to get the same in Thailand?

If one of your loved ones was trapped, you wouldn't be asking about work permits now would you?

How inconsiderate considering there could be a number of deaths.

It's not his fault these are the laws of Thailand.

You're also correct - why should volunteers and emergency staff need work permits? Well, ask Prayut or someone with the domain knowledge to see if they can figure out why they're happy to get the farang to save them from caves, tsunamis and boating accidents, but technically require work permits for everyone doing it.

Once you get a proper answer, you can let the rest of us know ????

  3. To make matters even worse - I personally know of several rich Thai-Chinese families who won't sign the marriage certificate; and themselves don't live in an "official" marriage, as it makes things easier when it comes to assets.

Mind you, they live together for 20+ years, have kids, business together etc.

So in Thailand there doesn't appear to be any gotchas like in the West - don't sign the paper and you aren't married.

Interestingly enough, the youth are smarter than this so now they want the marriage certificate without the ceremony! (Probably googling which one gets them a new passport, hahaha)

Like crazy tariffs?  What a dreamer.  Why does everyone have to prop up Thailand while it plays the west and China against each other. It does little as possible to educate its own people.  It has questionable rule of law.  It has silly labor laws and has coups all the time.   For all this, Kang wants privileges.????    This is crazy.

Oh, we developing countee - be nice to us please.

I'm not sure who I blame more - the west for being such bleeding hearts or the Thai for taking full advantage of it?

what's stopping tat or some thai tourism companies/groups/organizations from developing their own package tours to compete with the chinese-owned/operated tours?  surely the government through tat could develop thailand as a hub of indigenous tourism.  it takes more than just buying commercial time on cgtn to promote amazing thailand.

open a travel hubble-bubble between china and a restricted tourism zone on the islands - once quarantine procedures have been agreed upon.  have the bankrupt thai airlines begin selling package tours to the chinese that patronize thai owned/operated hotels and restaurants.  and of course include insurance cover and covid19 testing in the package.

    Laziness.

I wasn't there, not sure why you'd think I go shopping with Mr. Sofa.

As he took the old item in it ought not to have been beyond them to hav provided him with a like for like replacement. If the first member of staff that he asked wasn't sure they (the staff member) should have escalated it.

Well since you're throwing out weird excuses despite not being there, I thought I'd have a hand at it myself ????

Two birds with one stone: applying it directly to your face and rubbing vigorously gives you an approximation of how it feels to deal with said gentleman!

And there was me thinking it was up to the stores to give their staff product knowledge training so they could actualy serve the customer with the correct products first time every time. Silly me.

Yes, it's HomePro's job to teach staff members psychic abilities so they can understand what exactly you mean by "white" lightbulb, when there are multiple color frequencies including warm white, cool white and daylight white, with ranges of several hundred to several thousand kelvin between them.

Maybe if you spoke to them in Thai and explained what you were after? ????

  9. Where are you staying?

There are a couple of telco operators with very good staff who speak English and have great product knowledge. True at Emquartier and Central World Chitlom as well as AIS at Mega Bangna are my recommendations if you are in BKK/South of BKK.

You could either get them to recommend a new package to you, or if it all sounds like gibberish (which I can totally empathise with given their tendency to whip out a 5 page table with hundreds of options) then you could probably just get them to set you up with the same package under your own name.

Should require just a passport and address.

In many all-you-can-eat restaurants they have signs, or at least small print, that customers get charged if they put lots of extra food on their table which they don't eat.

I.e. it's no problem if they eat 1000g. But if they bring 1000g to the table and eat only 200g then they get charged.

I think under normal circumstances that makes sense. Because the restaurants are about all-you-can-eat and not all-you-can-put-on-your-table.

In this case, when the story is true, the guest should not have to pay anything. At least IMHO.

Totally makes sense when you see the dearth of Chinese tourists using plates to scoop up shrimp into bowls!

Anyone who is reasonable also learns pretty quickly that this is just nice etiquette. I've only had it backfire once when someone at the restaurant thought they'd try it on by doubling the amount ordered - not knowing that my tiny frame partner eats more than I do (and I'm 6 foot and do heavy lifting at the gym). Everything else got sneakily hidden under the lettuce or "fell" into the BBQ grill.

Every other place has been pretty spot on and it totally makes sense why this is the requirement when you actually understand anything about Thai culture and how the customer-business relationship sits in their social hierarchy.

I don't know why they can't give you your regular plates right away. In British Columbia, Canada as soon as you buy a car new/used you can go straight away to an agent and get your permanent plates. Also you can chose what ever plates the agent have available.

It's another way for people to flex on how rich they are with a brand new car - I assume there's very very very little desire to phase out another culturally driven social status indicator.
