Visiting thailand and living Thailand was always upfront for many people.

People come to Thailand based on the amenities being offered and how they perceived the way of life in Thailand.

When they are talking about " Mass tourism" , it is about the  hordes of Chinese coming to thailand on group tour.

One has to understand why now the Chinese are interested in coming to thailand. ..It was all about a Chinese movie about Chiang Mai few years ago that intrigue the Mainland Chinese to visit thailand on  a cheap budget.

As long it is cheap and easy into Thailand and back to their own country... they will come to thailand, With all the restriction in Thailand and back to China, it does not look like a good deal for them and way too expensive for them..

and worst Chinese are superstitious.. they do not believe the Thai government that the COVI19 number is low.. they know better.

Mass tourism is not dead .. there is nobody interested in the program.

So living in thailand for many years. Don't ask questions and  confirm the rules.. Always find the "special loophole"

the bad news about mass tourism is that price are high for the normal places farang visited.

noodle soup and rice and chicken is about Bht 50  now or if cheaper you got almost nothing.

There is nothing so special selling it in Chiang Saen or make a special trip to buy in Chiang Saen.

I have been to Chiang Saen many times.. only to enjoy a good fish lunch at the few restaurant on the river. Never bought anything there.

Sorry. I lived in Mae Sai for many year when they still had the one lane each way to the border. The border police have their own rules.

Mae Sai is very notorious to be porous and the border patrol there are all in for the bribe money. There is a special van from downtown Mae Sai to take  Thai people ( no question asked and back to the Casino. The fee pays all the officials on both sides. 

These sex workers are coming back to Thailand to put their sex money in their bank accounts. They are not coming empty handed.

The Hotel must have told them that they can't work when sick..

The rules is that more came in therefore those were send back..

Once recovered, they will go back..

It is well know that the Thai border police is allowing truck to ferry goods back to Takielek which cannot survive without any Thai products.

Mae Sai police is very notorious to make money for the crossover at the border whether it is goods or human being and sometimes drug.

They are going to have same problem at Chiang Saen. golden triangle.. a major gambling complex being build across the river in Myamar.It is almost done.. where the customer are going to come from? Thailand of course, just a boat ride to the casino. you can even swim across.

what kind of quarantine they have for people crossing the border. Mae Sai does not have even a certified hotel

To replace them with Thai local people is a hard sell. There is nothing in Khao san to attract them.. To them Khao San is just  over price restaurants geared for the farangs. so they will not visit it. or shop there.

The attitude of Thais businesses who used to gouge tourists is gone.

they can't be geared to lower their prices for the local population.

not really, student and young thai people gathered in pub and restaurant and other monkey business on the other side of the river... .I visited the area with my thai friends many times.  they do not care about Khao san road.. it has been established for a long time before the pandemic. 

Khoa San road has always been label a Farang nightspot .May be few Thai visited it but it is not a  hangout place for Thai people.

There are other areas in Bangkok where Thai people hangout way out of the business and tourist areas. It is where they live.  

Sorry to say. Any Khao san business to survive needs a lot of traffic..

TO have low covid-19 cases is to test a few.

1 Thai people with symptoms stays home and do not go to doctors because Thai people never like to take medceine. THye usually go to the pharmacy and getsomething from them.

2. Thai government does not have apolicy to do mass testing. Only on the cases reproted.

So It is very obvious that Covid-19 is rampant in Thailand and not reported.

First, this woman and husband are crazy coming to Thailand to enjoy their nice home on Kho Samui.

They must be rich and somehow connected with the Thai government to be let in the country.

It is one of those things that the Thai gvt make exception for few if you pay "good" bribes to come in.
