The fear that these medical minister are not counting on is that this virus will mutate again beyond delta and who knows how bad it would be. that could be disastrous
Already the US and other countries are considering a 3rd booster shot for people over 60yr with a 5month duration from the 2nd shot.
There is no way thailand can cope with that.. considering they are having problem with dosage 1 and dosage 2.
My good guess is that they are still counting on AZ to be delivered soon. Assuming that there is no production problem, It wont happened either. Us vaccines planned to be delivered few in October and few more in spring 2022. They are hoping that this virus will go away magically by waving the magic wand. 55555
Disease, viruses, and medication are all statistical data. It is all about numbers and not about wishful thinking.

it is funny
reading all the forum... nobody believes this guy..
do we really thinks he is telling the truth.?
propagate lies and call it honesty,, is deceiving.

Here we go again. Sponge Bob...how many times we heard that..
which year 2023?
It sounds like fake news to me. The big if..where is the vaccine?
I really do not know which vaccines you give to children and pregnant women . As far as I know Pfizer is the only prescribed for children.
Ordering few millions here and there...is not enough. To vaccinates 50 million Thais (70%) you need 100 million vaccines ,not counting the redosage to the people who got sinovac.
From what we read, Thailand will get Pfizer or moderna.. sometimes in October and few more in 2022.. You are looking at late 2022 before a good percentage of the population to get the vaccines. and not sooner.
that is reality if they keep buying vaccines.

now, they won't blame the burmese
It tells you one thing that there are a lot of desperate local Thais who resent the sandbox. they are looking at it as a way to enrich the rich and they are left out.
desperate people doing desperate things
nt blame the burmese on the island..
They can't come in.

Depends on your definition of tourist. We are here so that we can eventually visit the in-laws for a couple of weeks but we also spend around 3 weeks doing tourist things like a beach holiday - often with the in-laws. There do appear to be some genuine tourists here as well (can't understand why though).
if you are visiting your in-law.. that is not going on vacation. it is a family trip.
sure they are few tourists but most are reporter writing for their own paper like Alison Fox from Travel leisure magazine..

It was predicted : no tourism and no major export...will bring the baht down
The expectation for this year ,we will see Bht 34/$1 (buying rate)
Due to the pandemic, we will see a shortage of food product on the shelves, constructions material, and many people out of work.
The low baht has not effect on the local life in thailand.. But inflation will creep in Thailand which will make the situation quite worse.
-
just like the US . Supplies were limited in all stores. Even now with much vaccination implemented, we are still seeing higher prices and few limited supplies.
For Thailand, if the factories production are slowing down, many products will be limited on the shelves at the supermarkets.
-
from 800k we need to substract the 3 covid test at Bht 2000 each.
we need to substract 2,000x3x14,050 = Bht 84,300
I can't see how Phuket can get away with it and not be under the lockdown conditions.
NO malls
No health spa
No swimming pools
No travel
No restaurant...only take out
People who came to Phuket lives on the island or travel reporters writing to their newspapers or their followers.
I read one of those article from Travel Leisure from Alisson Fox 7/29
"I Was One of the First Vaccinated Americans to Visit Thailand in More Than a Year — Here's What It Was Like"
or if you like bloomberg "Phuket Tourism Experiment Risks Suspension as Covid Cases Surge" 7/27
that is not opening up to tourism when the whole country is suffering.

let us not get too excited on numbers
Bht800,000 for 15k visitors .. you are looking at Baht 3,500/day/visitor or $110/ day/visitor..
I assumed that it includes, hotel and food on the island. That seemed reasonable for a visitor.
how can that revive the economy?
It was predicted most of them are returning to their home in Phuket or close by, Given the pandemic with the rest of Thailand, the number of visitors will be less for August. then the sandbox will be delayed.
"a dream in the sky"
Airlines must make money to stop over Phuket. It may be possible that they will cancel flights to Phuket. Reality "NOT ENOUGH PASSENGER "

it is a reality when all the COVID19 programs are not working. The economy will suffer
Tourism : Thailand depends 20% of it s GDP on tourism..No matter what they are doing...the tourists are not coming back. Nobody wants to get sick in Thailand when their medical infrastructure is overflowing . If they are coming , then they will be few of them...
Export: More bas news, Toyota is shutting down 3 plants.. that will impact export numbers. Due to lockdown and inability to visit and manage manufacturing, and low international demand of products, companies will either shut down or reduce export from Thailand.
All these programs are affecting the local residents and their ability to survive in this pandemic situation. One must worry about the University graduates - no jobs for them
the sad news is that there is not much taxation the government can collect from anybody.. the only way is to drop the value of the baht enough to bring investment back to thailand, followed with a relaxed immigration policy to attract the expat retirees, improve on health plan for all, investing in other program to improve the lives of all Thais.

Her is my feedback on the "Sandbox"
1. many countries have issues travel advisory for visiting Thailand
2. Thailand health system is braking down..All hospital are full to capacity. If any tourist wants to visit the hospital for any reason.. Good luck.
3. Unable to visit the rest of the country-- the rest of thailand is lockdown
4. Most of Phuket businesses are shut down.
5. unable to get food supplies and hotel maintenance from the rest of Thailand- local are not permitted to come to Phuket..there will be some shortage of food and other supplies.
6. Most of Phuket residents are not full vaccinated - only 40%..if any, they all got the weak vaccines.
7.COvid19 cases are rising in Phuket.
8. return home quarantine.
I just can't comprehend that why any sane tourist wants to visit Phuket . the infra structure is not there to support reopening thailand when the rest of the country is suffering with death all over and full lockdown.

FUNNY
you read something different from US news. Bloomberg said "Phuket Tourism Experiment Risks Suspension as Covid Cases Surge"
"The resort island reported 125 new Covid-19 cases during the week ending July 27, higher than the government-set threshold of 90 weekly cases that could trigger a temporary suspension of the program. In response, local authorities closed public schools and shopping malls and banned gatherings of more than 100 people from Tuesday to stem the virus from spreading further"
Obviously is the case because not all Phuket got the 2 dosages of vaccination and the 2nd factor is that Phuket local were inoculated with sinovac. which has a lower efficiency and proven that it has very little protection over time.
what are these tourists doing in Phuket.???? what are they proving coming into an infected area of thailand.?
-
they have touched the optmistic side of the down turn.. It is usually worse than predicted.
already Toyota closed 3 plants in thailand affecting export. How can the country functioned when there is a lockdown..

one has to be careful when reading about the vaccination numbers.
the 2 dosages are quite essential .there are reports in UK medical journal specifies that
"The full study published on Wednesday found that one dose of Pfizer's shot was 36% effective, and one dose of AstraZeneca's vaccine was around 30% effective."
taking it with a grain a salt, No matter how efficient is the vaccine. It is safe to assume that any one needs the 2 dosages to be fully vaccinated.
-
20 millions Pfizer = vaccinating 10 million person.
5million of AZ/month = 2,5million person. ( assuming the supply is available)
By December 2021, it would b realistic to say out that 20million people will be vaccinated.
.Not counting the re-vaccination of people who got the sinovac
I think we need to be realistic to say vaccination of 50% of the population is a good target = 35 million people.
More vaccines is needed to reach that goal by 1st quarter 2022.
a good start but a long way to go.
There is still issues::: is it going to be free? are they planning to vaccinate 15yr and up?

That's 180,000 baht per tourist, even if the Hotel cost 2,000 baht a night that is only 28,000 baht over 14 days. leaving 152,000 baht for what? No-one spends that amount of money on a 21 week holiday!
the 5 star hotel with food probably cost let's say Bht 6k for 14 days....Bht 72k -

i want to know how TAT feels showing tourists bathing in pool hotels and the rest of the country death is on the rise.
How Thai feels about the sandbox when Phuket took most of the vaccine available to to vaccinate 80% of the local resident when the rest of country struggling to get the vaccine.
Finally How TAT will get 50% of the local tourists living in Thailand. Nobody is suppose to travel now.?
useless information...best no to say anything about tourism now because it might get a lot of people upset.
-
It is all a matter of opinion --I am sure that it is not shared by most of population of Thailand trying to cope with the new epidemic.
In these times, Forum news" should focus on news related to the safety of all people living in Thailand and not "fake news" TAT wanting every one to believe.. We all know that Tourism plans for now is "off the shelf or just dead"
Even Phuket , 80% first shot vaccinated with sinovac may need to revisit their opening plan. Sinovac is a week vaccine and it was reported in the news that many vaccinated people got the virus and died.
How safe are the resident of Phuket? Where are these tourists going after 14 days in Phuket?
Major are of attraction :Bangkok and CHiang mai are in lockdown mode
Shame on TAT--this is not the time to talk about opening the country when many are dying.

Australia has locked down the country again with no entry for anyone with just over 100 new cases daily and Thailand with now over 11,000 new daily cases is opening up to tourists you have to wonder what the mentality of this Government is .
Not to worry ..who is the stupid and ignorant to world event tourist would want to come on holiday with wife and kids to thailand and get sick.?

It is obvious the vaccination number is low.
lockdown measures are just too late. and never a quick solution. The effect of lockdown or preventing people mobility does not show result for at least 3-5 weeks of continuing isolation.
It will impossible to keep the people home for much of that time. They will need to close all schools, stop public transportation , street vendors, and government offices and much more...It is funny to read that official in the government will study how other countries managed during the lockdown. The answer is not pleasant.. The US was officially closed for 120 days. one barely can get enough food to buy.
Instead of doing door to door testing, they should door-to door vaccination until they run out of vaccine supply
Thailand well on the way to vaccinating 70% of population - vaccine in every province, says Anutin
