Instead of wasting time on lockdown and curfew.
He should procure more vaccines and speed up the vaccination of the people...
all of them farangs and Thai.. anybody living in Thailand.

"I told you so" statement is well known in the social community that any US vaccines will be in Thailand later in the Year. Of course at a cost given in private hospital.
Anybody in thailand has 4 options.
1. sign up to get the local vaccine now
2. fly to the US for 45 days -get the vaccine and the COE- then return to Phuket for 14 days before you go home.
3. don't do anything now and sign up at the hospital for the Pfizer vaccines later this year requiring you to pay 50% up front
4. don't get vaccinated and enjoy your life.

I expected that
The Phuket sandbox plan is to fill so many 5 stars hotel rooms to provide quick cash for the "who" owning the hotels.
One way is no 2 persons can share a room...only legally married people- which can be a few.
SO.... no 2 lesbians or gays or friends, or older lady with her companion can share one room.
Another techniques to bleed more money from the arriving people.

The statement "Around 300 tourists are expected "
for 300 passengers is just equivalent to 2 flights. It is nothing.
There are a lot of Thai people left the country to get their vaccines overseas, and other farangs returning home. Not to forget that many well-to-do Thai people will be going this summer to the US for their moderna/Pfizer vaccines. Returning to Phuket a good option for them.
"expected 30,000 down from 100,000 in 120 days."..my math tells me 250 people per day.....just one plane per day
This plan is designed for the returnees back to Thailand... however, It does not look like a plan well in place to help the tourism industry.

US expats have decide to live abroad when they retired. It is their free choice to absorb a new culture and way of life for many reason instead of living in the US.
The purpose of the US embassy is to facilitate doing business in the US such as signing legal document, birth overseas, passport services and professional to contact in Thailand.
The US department has no obligation about taking care of health provider for expat.
It is very clear that paying US taxes does not entitle any expat for the US vaccines.
or an extension of the Medicare benefits overseas. It is not the job of the embassy but it is the responsibility of the local government to vaccinate the expat and provide them with medical service if needed. I think thailand is doing their best effort.
If an expat health is being jeopardize living in Thailand, then they should consider being expat to a country close to home.

for TAT as long there is the high cost of the forced quarantine in PHuket and a quarantine returning home for the tourists, this plan will not work.
However, it may suit farangs and other foreigners living on the island or just returning to their families or condos, They are not planning to leave the country for a while
Or farang who have 800k in the bank and they need to return to Thailand to renew their "O" visa.
Normal visitors on a 60 days visa-- no way this plan suit them

No countries will compromise the safety of their citizen just to please Thailand.
Every country knows that after the forced 14 days of "free" quarantine and multiple tests in thailand, tourists can roam freely all over infected areas in Thailand before going home.
HAHA ... better to come up with a another plan..

Historically, the French government has always taken care of their citizens well.
Mostly related to their colonial tradition.
Job well done.. and in the right direction.

so tourists do need 2 shots, and some will have already their 3rd shot (which is recommended sometimes over 6 months from the second shot), but thais will have 1 shot (sinovac, which is the most common in thailand gives only some 5% protection from the 1st shot).
my wife doesn't think it possible to open for tourists - so for me the vast majority of thai have an opposite opinion to this poll

If nobody goes to the “grubby little bars” what would be the harm in letting them open? Hardly likely to be a mass spreading event if no one goes, right? You might try to have a little compassion for the thousands upon thousands who have been left high and dry instead of ridiculing them.
the pretty girls will stay home messing with the local boys..they will send their grandma to meet prince charming HAHAHA

this person is getting big salary to say something.. I guess he needs to justify his salary on few tidbit medical knowledge about the world trend on the progress of the vaccination effort in other countries. It is like the Ostrich to sink its head in the sand to avoid listening

still quite puzzled
"reopen to foreign visitors in 120 days, at a time when new COVID-19 infections are not slowing, "
1. reopening to fully vaccinated tourism.. are they safe?
Yes... can they infect others ? No - what is the issue here? Pure ignorance on the medical assurance that the vaccine is work.
Infection will slow when the vaccine vaccination program is in full swing. That is Thai concern and has nothing to do with fully vaccinated tourists arriving in Thailand.
the whole article does not make sense.

What happened to TWO shots?
Is ONE shot now acceptable to be classified as vaccinated.
Good news for the sandbox folk. They only need one jab.
false hope I would say

Sorry, you need to explain me what fully vaccinated and safe tourists has anything to do with the mass vaccination of Thai citizen.
Us has been vaccinated and we can move around between unvaccinated people. We do not seem to get the virus nor do we infect others.
PFizer and Moderna are 90% efficient. so why fully vaccinated people need quarantine.? they are safe and will not infect others.
mass vaccination is for the safety of the Thai people and not the safe tourists .You have been fed with stories and voodoo things about the fear of tourists,
to infect Thailand. The safe tourist should be welcome back with no quarantine. They are not going to spread the infection nor being infected themselves.

Mass vaccination is the only solution to opening for International Tourism. Premature opening before vaccination could be a disaster and delay opening until well into next year. At least it is now accepted that many unregistered Thai's previously employed in tourism industry are suffering severe hardship without any help from the Government

something does not sound right.
50 million vaccinated with first dosage does not offer full protection until you get the second dosage.
How can anybody consider safe with just one dosage of the vaccine? even to vaccinate 50 million first dosage of Thais by October, you need to inject 450k people per day . assuming and assuming there is a constant supply of vaccine.
Comparing to other countries having an unlimited supply of vaccines. the number has been around 150k per day.- you are looking at a 333 days to inject 50million one dosage. and another 333 days for the 2nd dosage.
unless, nobody will be bother go and get the 2nd shot.
My mathematic estimation look like it will take1-2 years to fully vaccinate 50 million people. and I hope that they can do better but 120 days is totally optimistic
the 2nd question is : are fully vaccinated tourist considered safe to enter Thailand.? so why is the major concern with ?

4 hours ago, Jingthing said:Also to consider the widespread use of Sinovac here. One does of Sinovac gives very little protection. So people getting Sinovac shouldn't really be counted until weeks after their SECOND dose.
there are rumors that sinovac can't protect you against the delta virus. look at the news coming from Indonesia.
Dubai reinject people who got sinovac with Pfizer..
there is still doubt about sinovac.

let us get something straight in one simple question without dancing on the subject.
Does the government believe that fully vaccinated (2 dosages) are safe to enter Thailand without quarantine? Is there any evidence that fully vaccinated tourists can infect other?

Somehow, it is still puzzled me about the interpretation of the word " vaccinated"
According to the medical term " you are vaccinated when you received the full dosage of the vaccines"
Based on the medical news : Just because you receive one dosage you are not "fully" vaccinated and you might have a chance to be infected.
Only the first dosage of the vaccine is being administered now in Thailand. The second dosage is in another 10weeks or more. According to the medical term, they are partial vaccinated. got to be careful.
the big question is : why fully vaccinated visitors need to be quarantine especially for visitors who received the Pfizer or Moderna- 90% efficient? how can they spread the infection? what scientific justification does the government have regarding the issues between fully vaccinated people vs infection spreading?
is something to worry about in thailand waiting a long time between dosages?
a lot of unanswered questions

let us understand the movement of the visitors Thais or farangs in Phuket.
1. they paid for 14 day stay at a hotel- they won't leave the hotel
2. they can't go visiting other islands- the tours are not running
3. very few restaurant are opened. and no bar girls are available either
4. buses , trains and airplane are not going to take them to Bangkok. just have to look at their entry visa and make sure 14 days are elapse.
Mostly they will either be around the pool or in a hotel chair on the beach. they will eat their food in the hotels and perhaps go to a nearby open restaurant. ..some might go shopping at Phuket city ..and that is about it. The rest of the time be locked in the room watching TV.
7 days is tolerated but 14 days is quite boring.
