  1. Thailand has become the United States of China. Let's be honest it's now just become part of China.
  2. Everywhere i go, you can't help but see all these skin laser shops, with the promise of beauty. Anyone had some treatment with these? They have many different lasers, some that reduce wrinkles, some that clear acne, some that brighten your face, etc Now these lasers aren't like many of the lasers in the UK where they remove the top layer of skin (ablative). Instead the lasers here in Thailand are the 'heating up' type, and you return to work pretty much straight away. Anyone with some info, tried out?
  3. Newer condos are a bit more programmed with the sublet. Everyone it seems is an agent though ! I was talking to one lady, turns out she was an agent for cleaning condos, but here she was showing me around a condo she found online. She was actually very good too.
  4. Seems pretty genuine. If your tennant dosn't pay, keep hold of the security desposit. You have a months rent in advance. Kick him straight out if he is late. Furthermore why aren't you inspecting your property at least once every few months ?
  5. Then what is the point of the 2 month security bond ? What is the point of taking a rent one month in advance ? Were you doing this ?
  6. A months rents in advance, and a two month security deposit. Maybe a reference. I am already agreed to the one months rent in advance, and the two month security deposit.
  7. I am aware you get the obligatory 'landlord wants to know what job you do' question when you look at a condo. Yet today, i have been asked "what job do you do", "owners wants to know what business you have in the UK", "owner wants to know income", "owner wants to know address in the UK", "owner wants to see this and that" etc I am almost laughed in disbelief. Despite the fact they don't even verify anything and i could say anything, i just find it all rather disgusting and a complete invasion of privacy.. I know the answer - walk away. But i just find it all rather frustrating, after agreeing price and preparing ourselves mentally to take the property on (which has been empty for a long time).
  8. Hello the school in Bangkok my child is looking to start is saying they will start his visa when he arrives and enrolls in the schol. They said my child will get a visa. I am just checking will my child need a visa first before he can study, or as the school is suggesting he commences school and then gets the visa ? I don't want to get in any trouble.
  9. I am at that banging my head against a spiked concrete wall stage still. Hopefully it's just a procedure we all must go through. You clearly have made it out the other end.
  10. I fail to understand how advertising with multiple agents means the agents won't remove expired properties ? I am assuming the agent doesn't get updated if it is sold - but surely they have a duty to check in now and again? It essentially leaves the agents websites pointless.
  11. What in the gutter hell is going on with estate agents here in Bangkok? Total waste of my time most of them. You go through their website, look carefully at properties that are listed. You call them up, and it's not available. Not just the odd one, but it is constant. Just a real headache. Just list what you have available. It's a complete nonsensical minefield dealing with agents here. They literally make no sense.
  12. Are you getting confused between 'education visas' for adults, and the one i am looking at for children? We already have him registered with a junior school and have documents and registration certificates. Are you saying my child is going to have to wait up to two weeks to get the actual education visa ?! And also then he has to wait 2 weeks before he can even apply due to running down his exemption stamp ?!?! That's essentially a month. Will he be able to study in that time at the school ?
  13. How long does it take to get the education visa whilst in Thailand ?
  14. Oh well it was nice knowing you glorious Phuket beaches. We will get wall to wall empty condos now. Bye
  15. Hi all, still contemplating what to do here. Can you clarify what is involved in obtaining an education visa for my child here in Bangkok. We arrived in Bangkok on an exemption visa (from UK). The child's school say it is straightforward getting an education visa for the child once we register with the school. Can you tell me what is involved, and the time frame? I had planned on just applying back in the UK, but the time frame on the website says 5-15 working days, meaning it could take up to 3 weeks which would be unacceptable.
  16. Old Brits in Pattaya bars will love this story. Sigh
  17. The Indians in Pattaya are very passive. Never seen an aggressive one. Seen some Russians, but they seem determined to keep their heads down and not risk being sent back. The Brits though - it's just internal anger.
  18. There's some sort of cultural upbringing that causes certain (well almost all) Brits to want to commit violence and hit someone - after a few drinks. Give me a cheap Indian sharing a Heineken anyday, rather than someone who may break my leg after a Heineken.
  19. They're nothing but tourist traps now. The tourist will be exposed to some extreme pollution and car exhaust fumes. When they stop at a red light, you just better hope they don't stop behind a red bus. Dayam the fumes. They'd rather sit idly doing nothing, and won't accept less than 200 baht for any single journey - as if word might get out that they are doing deals. They're a menace and also loud.
  20. He owns a condo you know.
  21. Proof of the shared Heinekan, or you are just flexing some casual racism and an old racist stereotype. I also sat a bar relaxing. I was just amazed after a few Heinekens how often the British would want to cause violence. It was truly astonishing. Back to the Indians - if they did indeed spend some money on an over priced Heineken, then it's certainly more than many others who simply window shop and walk past. When Pattaya opened last year, it was Indian tourists who kep it going, by arriving in large numbers. Are they on a budget - they sure are. Most are come as work vaccation from their work companies.
