  1. Hello, this is the OP.

WOW! I just found the blog and I am very

intrigued at how so many are so quick to

jump onto their "high-horse" and label me

as a criminal, deadbeat dad, law breaker, ....

One fella hit the nail one the head with

the story of a guy whose wife tired of him

and used the kids to get the husband to

    support her.

Yes, the Amer. Embassy will give me

a temporary letter to return to the U.S.

I have always supported my kids. I just

refuse to support my (adulterous) ex-wife as well.

I am a retired Schoolteacher that was used by a

    Japanese goldigger.

Sorry to not live up to your judgement of "Slacker-extrodinaire."

  2. Hello,

I was wondering if anyone else has

    had the unfortunate experience of

    having their passport confiscated

    at the American Embassy?

I went yesterday morning to get

a few additional pages inserted and

due to my former wife's unbridled greed,

(she and her lawyer got the judge to base

the child-support on my full-time salary, so

it is 200% of my retirement pension.)

I came up on their computer as delinquent

in child support payments so my passport

was confiscated. I am now wondering what,

if anything, I can do to get my passport back.

    Thanks,

    ccarbaugh

  3. I agree with all that has been said. For quite some time, I, too, have

felt the need to make generalizations about Thailand, Thai society,...

Slowly, I am coming to the realization that all perceptions are actually

self-reflection. The old saying "the oppposite is also true." applies.

I wonder why we (humankind,) feel the constant need to categorize,

generalize, judge, ... when the whole world is just an artifact of our

    own (spiritual) existence.

Anywho, everybody is here for something - I'm here for the

low cost of living and the beautiful ladies. :D:D:D:):D:D

  4. Please forgive my ignorance.

I want to go get a 100 Baht massage

NOW but I don't know where this is:

"Soi Drarin right next to the lawn bowling green called 'Jits';"

    Sky train/BTS? Subway/MRT? Taxi? Walking? ..........

Thanks - I'll be on my way as soon as I get the info!

    :D:)

  5. I commute regularly from Bangkok to Isaan by rail.

I have no dissatisfaction with the price, however, I

would be willing to pay more if the seats/windows/fans...

weren't broken. Also, the train cars have gone decades

    without a proper cleaning.

All that said, I too have had some pleasant interpersonal

experience on the train but, I've noticed that when I

go by bus- instead of the train, I arrive on time and

    much less exhausted.

  6. Hi all,

Can someone explain to me how the end particle "ja" or sometimes "na ja" is used? Initially, I thought it was used by adults talking to children. But then I heard a younger girl respond with the above to an adult and also from shopkeepers to customers.

    thanks.

My understanding is that "ja" means "honey" or "dear." "na" is used when asking if something is "O.K.?" So, put them together and it means "O.K. honey?" or "O.K. dear?" :o

  7. Last July, I was walking away from Soi Cowboy and a katoy (or a thief dressed liike a katoy,) came up behind me, held my arm with one hand and reached down into my back pocket with the other. Fortunately, I had put my wallet into my front pocket. Sooo, although my last remaining nung-pawn baht wasn't lifted (& cards,) I was unnerved and now I am much more cautious! :o

  8. Much has been said about the Nana Hotel on Soi 4. I have friends from the US who like to stay there. I really have no idea why. My wife and I went to Bangkok to visit them and decided to stay there too. The man who worked at reception seemed aloof and rude. As we started to check in he wanted my passport. I never carry it with me and gave him my five year Thai drivers license. My wife gave him her Thai ID card. Not good enough! I did have a copy of my passport but I'm not going to beg to stay in a sh!t hole hotel. I told him never mind, we'll go across the street to the Dynasty. I sometimes stay at the Nana City Inn but thought we would try the Dynasty. We had no problems checking in. Our room was 1,450 baht per night. We were led to the building in back and found our room to be a little shoe box. I was quite disappointed and two days of that was two days too long. Certainly NOT worth 1,450 baht. Now I remember why I don't like Bangkok.

Ditto! My last 3 times to Bangkok I went to the Nana because of it's ideal location. All 3 times, I was treated MOST rudely at the front dest and, hesitatingly, told that "all rooms are full-up." Of course, they would put me up at their second hotel waaayyyy down the Soi. I've stayed at the Crown, the Tai Pan, the Park, the Stable Lodge Inn, (Soi 8,) ..... but, all in all, the best value is the "Thai House Inn" (700 Baht per night,) on Soi 7. It is basic - no frills, but it is half of the cost of the (shoebox) hotel rooms and the staff couldn't be more helpful and friendly. Hope this helps :o

  9. :D Wanted decent house/bungalow in Buriram to rent for approx 6 months. For House trained Englishman and Thai wife. :D

Sawatdee, I, too, am looking for a rental in Buriram.

However, I am only a "partially" house trained American. :D

If you come across anything, pls PM me

I'll visit the 1st 2 weeks in January

    and MOVE there in July!

    :D:o

  10. I am staying in Buriram for my summer vacation and I've been travelling throughout Isaan. I've found ALL of Isaan to be surprisingly conservative as far as the "nightlife" goes. I could be sorely mistaken however as my Tirak doesn't let me drift beyond arms-length.

    :o:D

  11. My Tirak and I have been discussing whether Thai pooying want

"Farang Husband" if not for the "mak mak baht." We both

seem to agree that the desireability of a "Farang Husband"

is virtually non-existent without the "mak mak baht" component.

As long as BOTH parties are aware of this, it shouldn't be a problem.

P.S. Yes, I'm staying with my Tirak in Isaan :o

  12. When I was in law school, we learned that "hard cases make bad law." Tonight's decision is clearly an example of this. For all of the sins of Mr Thaksin and TRT, banning a large party is simply a bad precedent, and a step back from democracy. Richard Nixon's administration was the closest the United States came to a dictatorship in living memory. However, no one raised the thought of disbanding or abolishing the Republican party. The way we get rid of bad politicians is to vote them out of office, not get rid of their parties. There are many in Thai Rak Thai, such as Mr Chaturon, who have something positive to contribute to this country. Why deprive them of what are in essence a huge chunk of their civil rights! Put the guilty ones on trial, instead.

On a lighter note, I am starting a new party.....called Farang Rak Thai. I think I can get many members, but few voters.

    Keep calm.

I'll join the "Farang Rak Thai Party!" :o:D

  13. bum on this chair for around an hour, wifey has just fetched coffee number two and all is right with the world. :D

How nice and positive that sounds, makes me happy to read :o:D

Ahhh - 14 more months until I can be in a similar position in Buri Ram. Only "problem" is finding a place to buy "real" (ground) coffee. .... and, who will bring the coffee while wifey's off to work??? :D

  14. Sawatdee All,

I will be in Thailand for 2 months over the summer.

I have been looking for a Big Bike to rent but I haven't found any.

(Pref. Honda Gold Wing.) If anyone knows of any bikes >500cc,

    please le me know.

    Thanks much,

  15. 40k gross.

Where do they get this silliness?

    40,000.00 THB = 1,444.36 CAD

That is a lot of money in Thailand. There are people in 1st world countries making that.

    not many but...ridiculous.

I think these constant silly problems will only get resolved if foreign countries ie embassies really put pressure on but it is a catch 22, they are only interested in a country if there is money in it. there is no money in it if companies are afraid to open there....etc...

too late at night for my brain, hope you know what I mean.

I agree - My pension, (beginning next year,) will be approx 24K - the rest of my income is investment- based, so will be variable. 400K deposit isn't a problem but (hopefully) it can be in CD's or an interest-bearing account - ? Seems like a lot of "hoops" but, as always, we all pay the price for the minority.
