Is there anything to stop me working remotely (from Thailand) with Non-O extended based on Marriage? One of my options to relocate is to be transferred to my employer’s Singapore office. I would work there two months and then relocate to Thailand and work remotely, travelling back in Asia once a month. As I understand the law, as it’s not working for a Thai employer there would be no need for a work permit. Is that the correct reading in this instance? Yes, I’m aware that I could get a DTV but I would prefer a sense of permanence and I want a Thai bank account. My other option is LTR based on working remotely. I qualify based on income, but it seems the process for applying can be quite cumbersome - maybe it’s something I can do after I have the marriage option sorted.

Actually that’s a damn good idea if I can’t find anything else. And actually I wouldn’t necessarily need aircon in that instance. A decent dehumidifier running would like suffice. Thanks for the comments everyone.

Thank you. Yes it’s Suvarnabhumi. Just to be clear - is it simply a case of arriving in departures, checking in, going through and getting it at the desk you mention before I present my passport? If so I guess there is no downside of asking for multi - they can simply say no.

A multi isn’t essential. If I can’t get that do I simply get apply for a single re-entry for each trip (no longer than a few days each time most likely)? And if so where and how do I get it? At Jomtien immigration or simply at the airport?

Apologies if this is an obvious question but I will likely arrive on a Non-O visa and will look to get an extension based on marriage to a Thai. As I understand it I will need to get a COR to open a bank account and then lodge the necessary funds and wait three months before then applying for the extension. The question is this: during that three month wait can I travel to and fro from the country easily? I assume so but haven’t seen it covered? I will likely need to come and go between Thailand and Singapore a couple of times. Will I be able to simply go to immigration (or airport) and get a multiple re-entry stamp before the visa is issued? Apologies if it’s a simple thing and I’m making a problem where none exists. Is there such a thing in Pattaya? I’ll be making the move later this year and have a household of furniture and - more importantly - a book collection of around 2000 volumes that will need to be parked somewhere. I’ll eventually be moving into my house in Jomtien but likely not until early 2027) and want a place to keep these safe and secure. As they are books and irreplaceable I’d ideally need something temperature controlled so they don’t get damaged by humidity. Possible or am I dreaming?

yes. Of course. I think I recall saying the OP was never paid for any leave - including holidays. That’s what makes me think his employment was less than orthodox.

I don’t know. When I worked there I had paid sick leave. It’s hard to tell what the OP’s exact working conditions were like. I get the impression it was more piecemeal work, paid for results or number of calls made or something, but that’s just a hunch. if so, it changes the nature of his employment status.

It’s worth making one more point. You would only be entitled to severance if they fire you WITHOUT CAUSE. You haven’t mentioned their reasons: if they claim serious misconduct etc then that changes the scenario.

thanks for clarifying. If that’s the case then of course you are legally entitled to severance, but what concerns me is that you state you never received sick pay or holiday pay. Given that the company seems to not care much about employment law, and you seem to have accepted it, I’d be very surprised if they pay anything. good luck though.

Hardly a newbie fella. I lived there many years myself and worked in a law firm. In one post you say it’s a Swedish company. Now it’s a Thai company. perhaps when you have decided you might get some helpful information.

My first take was correct - you will get nothing. im assuming you are a remote worker and the Swedish company has no legal presence in Thailand - ie is not legally constituted, has no office and is not registered as an employer. As such the company is not subject to Thai labour laws. Given they give no annual leave or sick leave to you, surely you suspected that. Thai labour law generally does not apply to employees of a foreign company that has no legal presence in Thailand, even if the worker resides and performs the work physically in Thailand. Thai labour protections—including redundancy/severance rights—typically apply only if the employer has a Thai establishment or the contract is governed by Thai law.

Given you have said they don’t pay holiday or sick pay - so are cleaerly happy to circumvent their legal obligations - your faith that they will pay severance is heartwarming. who or what is this employer? A bar? A school?

I bought it in the U.K. While I am here in the U.K., the missus and the watch are in Thailand and I’m not keen sending it to MB in Bangkok. To be honest it’s has been given up for dead for a couple of years and I’m not keen on throwing good money after bad. Would rather let a local shop have a go and if not - well, nothing lost. I’ll buy her a new one as a surprise when I retire.

Does anyone know of a good watch repairer in Pattaya or thereabouts? It’s a decent watch - a Mont Blanc - I bought for my wife years ago and it has given up the ghost. probably irreparable but I wouldn’t mind an expert confirming that.

I’m not sure why you’d change it if it’s been working for you. Wise provides both a good exchange rate and the flexibility to transfer as much or as little as and when you like, rather than when HMRC decides.
