entertainment venues had legally reopened in much of Thailand on June 1st.
They have been open for months, just legally reclassified as restaurants. Poor old plod will now see reduced income as bars can now open “legally”

Just hand it over to Anutin. He has the pandemic completely under control. We know this because he said so. World oil prices should be a doddle for such a genius

Anutin is a joke. But the daily death rate in the UK is 3x higher and the authorities have declared the pandemic over.
In Thailand, most people ignore the remaining minor restrictions and life is pretty much back to normal
Time to kick project fear into touch and move on

We are not talking about ATK tests and you didn't answer the questions

Are people not tested with PCR when getting a positive ATK test, then reporting this to the authorities, or going to hospital?
Edited yesterday at 12:19 PM by Premium
No. Most ATK tests are done privately and positive results not reported to avoid compulsory quarantine
ATK tests only detect Omicron in a short window of time. In the period when I had Omi confirmed by PCR, I had 3 ATK tests all negative

I have not had it and most people I know haven't either. But like your statement that is just personal anecdote - I would rather look at the actual data.
There is no “actual data” as the Thai authorities don’t offer free pcr tests in most cases and lateral flow tests, even if people take them and declare the result, are not reliable. Many people getting symptoms either don’t test or don’t reveal the result for fear of compulsory quarantine.
Of course suppressing the true infection rate helps official claims about how well the country has managed the pandemic.
But that said, I support the underlying wish to declare the pandemic over

You claim virtually everyone in Thailand has had omicron (and add the weasel phrase 'or knows someone who has').....that is not the case, omicron is never identified here and the statement is off. Perhaps Thailand should wait until cases start to fall... like most other countries did!
Not a weasel phrase, but an integral part of what I said to avoid exaggeration.
Based on the arrival date of Omicron in Thailand and assuming a similar R rate to Europe, I stand by my estimate

Noticeably cool in Hua Hin. Cycled back from local cafe Amazon at 11 am and still fresh

Is the emoticon meant to reflect the fact this statement is complete nonsense?
The emoticon is appended to a sentence which is very clearly an opinion not statement
But if you want to make the case for keeping restrictions despite the minimal rates of serious illness go ahead

If only half of the beds are occupied, then they have too many beds!
The increasingly unconvincing attempts by the media and some doctors to fearmonger based on confected stats is getting old.
Virtually everyone in Thailand has had Omicron or knows somebody who has and very very few get ill. Time to scrap the daft restrictions and get on with life????

Anyone cracking down on the scum who prey on kids is ok in my book.
But I don’t get why the RTP tolerate BJ turning himself into a media superstar and implying that without him personally getting involved, nobody else is doing anything. Either he has deep political connections or a lot of dirt on higher ups????♂️

For two years they have been obsessed with quarantines, masks, lockdowns, business bans, constant testing, border closures, ever complex and onerous regulations for flying, immigration, eating, drinking, breathing, exercising, or just walking outside. Now, those things can't last much longer. People want control of their lives back. But a few fanatics don't want them to have that. They want to maintain control. The fantics will lose.
It’s as much about some people making money as it is about control. Imagine how much money clinics and SHA hotels will lose if foreigners are not forced to use them…

It only becomes a medical emergency at 11pm so the bars have to shut. We all know the virus suddenly gets more dangerous later in the evening
But the good doc is right, Omicron does not qualify as an emergency due to the low death rate. Time to move on

I have not left the LoS for 15 months and will not do so anytime soon. Sky high airfares, tedious quarantines and a huge hassle if you test positive and can’t travel are major deterrents

So you have a slight cold? What are you going to do? I know, you are going to volunteer to spend 10 days lying on a bed in a converted warehouse with a bunch of strangers.
Yup, they’ll be killed in the rush

Avoid testing positive on Samui. A member of staff working for a friend there tested positive and is now locked in for 10 days☹️

Have the Thai ATK tests been doctored in some way so that it's very difficult to get a positive result?
According to the doctors I spoke to, ATK tests only show positive for Omicron when you are shedding a lot of the virus

I think the Omicron numbers are way way higher than the official figures. I know many people who have cold like symptoms but don’t test because they don’t want to be isolated. Others do ATK test, but it often shows negative with Omicron.
I got Omicron in Phuket over NY (v mild symptoms) and ATK test showed negative but PCR positive. It’s quite hard and expensive to get a PCR now, so most people don’t

Many European countries already have assumed that COVID is endemic, meaning heard immunity is highly unlikely
Under an endemic, herd immunity is far more likely as a higher and higher percentage get infected and develop immunity.
As the unvaccinated now account for 90% of serious illness, herd immunity will improve by natural selection

Goodness, this actually sounds like a sensible policy. Too bad I just shelled out 2k on a pcr because govt policy still requires it.
The doctor I spoke to told me the ATK tests are not that reliable with Omicron????

PM orders a clampdown on midnight closing rules
in Thailand News

Actually, those complaining are plod who have hugely enriched themselves by taking money from bar owners to not enforce whatever the latest bonkers rules are.
I picture all the virus platoons patiently waiting outside the bars and as soon as midnight strikes, “ok lads, go go…”
