Well, AZ seems to cop out, Austrian news report them as saying it will cut their respective stash from over 2 million to 5 or 600k jabs, citing supply difficulties ...
Most vaccine manufacturers not just AZ are facing supply difficulties in the face of unprecedented demand. Vaccines which normally take a decade to develop are being rolled out in a year, so hardly a surprise. Some people might argue rich countries should stop moaning about a short delay when they have selfishly prebought all available supply, leaving poorer countries to wait.
But supply difficulties in the EU will likely have little or no impact on supply in Thailand

Thailands largest ever vaccination plan needs a serious back up...................Astrazeneca reconsidering its partnership with Thailand
"Friday was expected to be a milestone in Thailand’s battle against Covid-19, with Thai officials and executives U.K.’s AstraZeneca Plc. hailing regulatory approval of its coronavirus vaccine. Instead, the news conference was abruptly canceled with the Matichon newspaper reporting that the British-Swiss firm was reconsidering its partnership with the government."
Looks like classic clickbait to me. AZ contracts are signed and FDA has approved. There is no evidence AZ is reconsidering. Press conference may have been called off for any number of reasons, eg because Taweeslip of CCSA thought he had Covid (later tested negative). -

Restricting the entire Bkk metropolis causing huge economic hardship seems disproportionate. Surely better to focus on the areas of the city near Samut Sakhon or where there are outbreaks.
Nighttime economy which employs a huge number of people is on the floor

42 minutes ago, Netzero said:Moderna and Pfizer have not applied for approval-? - WHY would that be? So THAT is the reason only the Chinese vaccine and the soon to be locally manufactured Oxford vaccine will be approved. Come on - just let the private hospitals distribute Moderna and/or Pfizer and let's get on with it.
These two vaccines are in short supply and rich countries have prebought what is available for months to come. Why should the manufacturers bother to register in Thailand at this point? From government’s pov, they have to be stored at -70 degrees C, so not great for mass vaccination in a tropical country

Thailand has three promising domestic vaccines under development. It will also be the main production hub for the Astra Zeneca (Oxford) vaccine in SE Asia- 1

I think the STV scheme was a reasonable idea, but the timing was unfortunate with the 2nd wave taking off and increasing travel restrictions in many parts of the world.
Relaxing the strict 2 week quarantine was never an option politically given the Thai public’s views and if relaxing the quarantine had led to a bigger second wave in Thailand than the one we are seeing now, tourists wouldn’t come anyway - catch 22.

I would still rather be here than pretty much anywhere else. But looking forward to having beer with my meal out again. Hopefully end Jan

Worrying sure, but devastating? 200/300 cases a day and 3 more deaths. If that’s devastating, we need a new lexicon of adjectives to describe the waves in UK, US etc- 6

issue tax incentives for businesses to inoculate their foreign work force once a vaccine is available in Thailand.
Soooo businessmen not only want scarce vaccine diverted away from high priority targets (health workers, elderly etc) to vaccinate their workforce, but they also want the government to subsidise it??

We should expect another spike due to travel and mixing over New Year. Time lag is usually 1-2 weeks

The Thai government has set a target to vaccinate half the population
By when? Half is a strange figure. 60-70% needed for herd immunity

This really only benefits cities within driving distance of Bangkok. More remote locations, like Samui, Phuket, etc, won't really benefit from this. A bit, but not much.
You are right. I have been in Lanta for a week and apart from 2 nights 31-2, it has been dead with no sign of local tourists.- 1

Roads 186, Covid 2. But still little action on roads. Enforcing motorbike helmet wearing alone would immediately cut the number of fatalities a lot.
I guess the attitude to RTA deaths is that it must be the victims’ fault.

He said the PM's aim is for at least 50 per cent of the population inoculated against the virus next year.
On this occasion, govt should get credit for managing public expectations and giving a realistic forecast, unlike some Western govts who are making ridiculous boosterist promises they likely can’t keep.

Ko lanta is my favourite though usually go in November and it’s very sparsely populated- we were the only ones in a largish hotel ! I would have thought it might be quite dead now due to no foreign tourists and wonder if the lack of resort availability you report could be because many simply haven’t bothered to open up ?
Nearly all the resorts I checked were open and a few full. NY is popular with locals not just foreign tourists -
If the PM does declare another lockdown before the NY holidays, it will be another blow for the tourist industry. I booked to go to Ko Lanta and judging by resort availability, it’s pretty heavily booked

My two best mates are stuck in the UK and Canada but they've both said they won't be returning until the quarantine period is done away with. They've both got their own property out here with loads of money in the bank, but the idea of paying through the nose to be locked in a grotty hotel room for a fortnight just so they can drink some overpriced Thai beer doesn't appeal to them.
After 7 months of gloom and depression in locked down UK, my return to the Big Mango was totally worth it and my ASQ hotel was quite nice really. And at least you can get a beer here unlike the UK. I’ve had several since getting out of quarantine.
Being in a Covid free city where everything is open, all my favourite Thai stuff is available and I don’t have to worry about a deadly disease is beyond price????

Good to hear you could get back into Thailand. A few questions.
1) Do you get to choose your own state quarantine, or is it chosen for you?
2) Could you please go into more information about the visa you applied for to enter into Thailand? & What documents did you require for the Visa
yes you can choose any approved ASQ hotel from quite a big range. For me, it was important for outdoor exercise to be allowed. Not possible in some placesMy office got me a visa, but I could also have got a one year O-A. Latter requires Thai health insurance
