  1. E.g. Switzerland: Tailand is considered a sensitive country by the Swiss regulator requiring burdensome processes to ensure cross border and money laundering standards. AFAIK UBS, ZKB, BCGE and Post Finance have set up processes to maintain accounts (for Swiss nationals?) with Thai domicile. UBS has a dedicated Thai desk and charges you with THB 144k p.a. unless you have mortgages or invested funds with them. Other banks may continue existing relationships, but will have to exit this business and cancel relationships if they cannot comply with required standards, as it happened with Raiffeisen.
  2. Changing main domicile from Switzerland to Thailand, it will be difficult or at least expensive to keep any Swiss bank account and you will be kicked out of the Swiss health insurance system. You either can get quite expensive international health insurance (in my case I could have switched to ASN without preconditions) or find a Thai insurance (in my case Pacific Cross with reasonable premium and decent coverage except for stationary coverage (≈50% of daily cost)).
  3. Two separate wills may lead to additional legal disputes. I established one will (in duplicates for my Thai wife and my foreign heir), assigning an executor for my Thai assets and an executor for my foreign assets, any disputes to be decided by the foreign executor or the foreign jurisdiction. The foreign executor will bridge finance my Thai wife until she will receive the benefits from my foreign pension in order not to depend on the access to my Thai assets.
  4. I have no pink card or yellow book but renewed my 2 year driving license with a 5 year driving license with my TE visa last November in Chonburi. The TE statement "a foreigner could obtain or renew 5 year license if he/she hold Non-Immigrant visa(Working visa) and a work permit" would mean that you need a working visa for a 5 year driving license. This does not make sense or would make many people quite unhappy.
  5. Happy with my Elite Easy Access, which was not hindering me to marry and obtain 5 year driving licenses, but in 17 years I will probably switch to LTR.
  6. TM30 requirements do not depend on 90 day reporting. TM30 is required for any new adress (also temporary such as an overnight outside your Thai domicile) in Thailand except if returning to your Thai domicile from abroad or another place in Thailand under the same visa.
  7. No reason to make ICE cars illegal. Lower total costs of ownership of BEV will make ICE dinosaurs. Especially in sunny Thailand. In 2050, you may have to get the fuel from the pharmacy like in the early days of ICE cars.
  8. For downloading the Section 38 app from the app store you must switch to your Thai apple ID in settings. Worked for me on iPhone and iPad. Registration confirmation stalled because the address fields did not match the structure of my address and the immigration officer could not find my data in the sytem. After a phone call (thanks to the advice of Red Phoenix and the efforts of my stepdaughter) I received user id and password within 5 minutes).
  9. I am a farang and I have never purchased a can of beans in my life. I prefer fresh food.
  10. @ Red Phoenix: Thank you very much. I will call Chonburi immigration next week i.e. not me but a Thai speaking person.
  11. I have registered successfully for TM30 with Chonburi immigration in the Section38 app but I have not received my user ID and password after one week. As per the attached photo I may still need to confirm the registration, but I can find this functionality neither in the app nor in the web application. Upon registration, I was asked to confirm the registration but clicking on the link produced an error. Photos are from the web application but the app shows the same information. What am I missing or have I just to wait longer for immigration mailing user ID and password to me? Is there an e-mail address or phone number for assistance?
  12. @ Mutt Daeng Thanks for sharing your experience. I will try to register now in the app while I am still in Thailand.
  13. If I register as possessor with my current passport but will return to Thailand with a new passport and visa, can I change the passport number in the app or do I have to register again? If I must register again, can I register from abroad or are there safeguards to prevent using the app from abroad? If I have to register upon arrival in Thailand, does the registration approval process take more than 24 hours? As fall back solution, I could register in the name of my wife, but I do not like using my wife's identity. The blue house book lists my wife as owner but not myself as possessor. My 30 year lease is listed on the chanot which cannot be easily copied and has my name in Thai letters only. I do not have a separate lease contract. Which documents need to be attached for registration and is there a respective list? I read in a post that document requirements vary by immigration office, which is Jomtien in my case. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

  16. If regulations have not been eased, you will need to pay an official guide in China. Friend of mine traveled from Wladiwostok to Thailand pre-covid and paid ~$5000 for this "service" (the guide was riding as passenger on the motorcycle). However, he was not allowed into Tibet. I doubt that border crossings from China to India are feasible. My friend initially planned to continue to Nepal via Myanmar, but is now contemplating to go further South (subject to resolving import duty in Thailand).
  17. For marrying into Hi So, I guess you need to earn at least THB 10 mio after tax from your work or wealth and spend most of it on a lavish lifestyle, in particular for your prospective Hi So wife. Money for sick buffalos is better spent. I have come to Thailand for a normal life and I am most happy with my Isaan wife and her down to the earth lower/middle class family without sick buffalos. People around me do not care how much money is spent on luxury items, which seems critical for survival among Hi So.
  18. My wife has very good eyes and saw something irregular when she wanted to use the bathroom in the dark. I would have stepped on the snake with my bare feet. The snake was probably searching for a way out. Did not look like sleep walking. At least it was not a black mamba with a Hattori Hanzo.
  19. Not so happy because the snake fled into the bathroom, 4 professional exterminators could not get it and my wife thinks that I better not use the bathroom for a few days.
  20. Going back to the op's question: this night, a snake creeped into our bedroom.

  22. I received my COR original from my embassy via online service. I copied the original on my color laser mfp and it is hard to tell the difference between copies and original. One original for proof of residence three times in December and January. I am pretty sure that I could have kept the original.
