  1. What are customers supposed to do? ask to see their business license before entering, plus most tourists can't read Thai, or know if the license is legit or not??
  2. The car seems to be traveling at a very high rate. doubt anyone making the turn would have been able to see it coming.
  3. 3 years ago, as part of a hiking package up Doi Suthep, I opted for the downhill bike option from Doi Suthep to the city. Was quite exciting, most fun I've had on a bike in a long time.
  4. Luma gave me insurance for the exact dates I would be there, and less than 30 days.
  5. what is really needed, is a countdown to say "goodbye and good riddance" to the last 2 years.
  6. I am fairly certain atk is still good. traveled back to US from another country last month just before the latest change, and was antigen then, only change is from 3 days to 1 day.
  7. After almost 2 years of "Covid Mania" I would imagine every person on the planet has been exposed to Covid multiple times. Some contract it, some don't. Younger, Healthy people, and those vaccinated have a much greater chance of not being infected when exposed.
  8. Wow, reading the comments here, not only does the Thai government maybe not understand the concept of a digital nomad, it's even worse here. Digital nomads don't dress up, and off to work in some building, etc. They typically are on their computer, either connected to some overseas server directly, or doing something similar, in their room or sitting besides the pool, or at some coffee shop, but most likely all of the above. They do not produce any goods, products, or services in the country they are temporarily residing in. They do not displace any local workers. They are on a completely flexible work schedule that they themselves control; some are direct employees, or subcontractors, others own their own single employee company and contract with some large company that needs whatever it is that they do. Some just trade stocks or securities. They do not spend $$ like the typical 2 week tourist, but do take a lot of 3 or 4 day holidays to travel around the country they are in, so spend low some days, weekends adventures spend $$, more than most locals would, but less than typical tourists. It's really a hybrid model. Unwise to apply old ideas, to something new. What is a digital nomad... there's probably at least 20 countries already with existing "since Covid", digital nomad defined and approved programs that can be used as examples. Other countries, do no levy taxes. Digital nomads are already paying taxes where their "tax home is", and typically the same country they are doing work for. There are already good examples of how to determine income, and if you are actually a digital nomad. Some times is just ones last 2 years of tax returns, some stricter counties want some sort of letter from wherever the income is derived from. The host country gets income indirectly; from the housing, goods, and services these digital nomads use, while they are there. Not certain why "at this point" immigration would need to understand it, at least until the rules are officially written. I went to Aruba, last January, one of the 1st countries to have this program, and I met several people doing this. IIRC only required an income letter from a company, or a tax return. Some countries, also accept people who trade stock and securities in this category. Costa Rica earlier this year, came out with their program. 1 year, extendable, very small visa fee, proof of income very modest. both these countries, when the programs where created understood the idea, and came out with reasonable programs to get people to come, not just for a quick holiday, but for a decent amount of time. I have read-up on many of the digital nomad programs around the world, and I can't recall any that are expected the tax this category of visa holder. Any country that would want work permits "for what??", tax "some" income, local investment 'for a temporary stay!!" OMG! What would they tax exactly; they are paid out in their tax home/tax country, not Thailand. At best it would be double-taxation, probably break many existing agreements/treaties. If they are double-taxed nobody would apply. I recall that originally the idea was a 40k investment, or govt bonds, not 250/500k, those are completely different programs I recall, still yet to be announced. Don't think they'll get any traction there, unless someone would want to pickup a condo for long term investment. govt bonds @1.5% interest... no thanks! I recall reading, maybe here, t some past attempts made to crackdown on some "tourists" trading stocks, it all fell apart because it's not exactly illegal, but is a grey area. If you really think that's working in Thailand and you are living there now, do not even sell any stock to fund your living in Thaland, because they you are working... think about it. If you do it one time, is no different that 100 times... plenty of examples of people on retirement visas, etc help their girlfriend one time, for a few minutes in her shop/business with something small, and was seen, reported, and booted out of country for "working". If Thailand is being smart, in creating this program, it would be to better clarify these grey areas; the countries local businesses will generate more income, and the government will get more taxes and revenue indirectly. This category of Visa, is what everyone has been asking for; people who come over, and not just for the bars, and nightly entertainment so abundant, but people who blend in to the local society because they are going to be there for some time, but not a permanent resident.
  9. Chiang Rai Travel Restrictions? On my upcoming trip, next week, was planning to a 4 days to visit the White Temple in Chiang Rai, for something new, besides just going to the normal places. Then I heard rumor that Chiang Rai was still a red-zone. Fairly certain, that was old info from Aug/Sept for the entire province. A ton of searches later, found the below article only by accident. Every query to Google or duck-duck managed to be strictly covid restrictions for international travelers to Thailand. I did find on the Tai embassy site, a reference to travel between provinces, and it said something like "check with the local province", but no reference on who how or where to go for this. Only after going to tatnews, and scrolling through all the recent articles I came across the below link. https://www.tatnews.org/2021/12/thailand-increases-blue-zone-destinations-to-26-eases-more-covid-19-curbs-nationwide/ Chiang Rai Blue Zones (Mueang, Chiang Khong, Chiang Saen, Mae Chan, Mae Fah Luang, Mae Sai, Phan, Thoeng, Wiang Kaen, and Wiang Pa Pao districts only), and Loei (Chiang Khan district only). Ok, good, maybe... some districts are OK to travel, some are not. Look online for a district map, ( tons of them ), but of course is only districts oulines, no cities, rivers, landmarks shown for any type of reference, anywhere. Mueang, like many others are very odd shaped and narrow to say the least. Temple is in Mueang, but is Chiang Rai? is Chiang Rai airport? the hotel etc? If I manage to be able to go, w/o quarantine, certainly not taking the free bike out for a ride, and then cross some unmarked district boundary, and then have 1/2 of northern Thai police & RTP waiting to pounce, for a quick tasty headline. Spent most of the day so far, and not able to get any further. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wat_Rong_Khun https://thainews.prd.go.th/en/news/detail/TCATG211212090845237 Anyone can shed some insight(s), web-links, suggestions, would be greatly appreciated.
  10. Still in US waiting to come back. I've installed the Morchanna app, and it fails everytime on registration after scanning the Thaipass registration. I've read most people have the same issue, but have never seen anyone explain what the fix is. Surely someone has been able to get through it? Tried every combination, of take everything as presented, to manually filling in ever line. nothing works so far.
  11. maybe they're concerned some clever guy will take the cranes and start using for construction
  12. One Soi done, 1 billion to go. Scrap/recycle value of all this would be tremendous... maybe the greenest project out there.
  13. In US, this can actually be quite the issue; apparently in your country it is not.
  14. says much more about your understanding. These were ALL hosted by world class scientists on the subject... not cartoons or sci-fi
  15. There is a huge difference between Illegal immigrants and human trafficking.
  16. sure it did, maybe it was some years before this, but there was a lot of TV scientific series where it was stated that it was very uncertain that there were planets anywhere else, because they had not been found to date. FYI anyone can update a WIKI
  17. yes, and it's much less deadly that it was in 1917... so you finally agree with me. Well done! I never said Covid will get weak and completely die out. Covid is endemic in the world and will never go away, the only hope is it gets weaker, "just like the 1917 Flu" and people can still get sick, but not nearly as deadly.
  18. Did not see anything that said she was a Nurse? Could be a Doctor or some higher pay level position.
  19. Same could be said of Fauchi. Turn on the TV, he's there with a never ending change of what he's said before.... never really challenged on his past pronouncements, or revisions of what he really meant.
  20. Facebook Messenger Contact: https://www.facebook.com/ThaiConsular/ they at least get back with you to request all the information. Unclear how effective it is. good luck!!
  21. show ANY proof of increase hospitalizations, specifically due to the new variant. It does not exist. A few months after this all started, there were several US government public discussion, with CDC, etc. Media challenged the governments charts on expected course of Covid, especially the numbers of deaths, and serious illness. Media specifically challenged the numbers because other well know universities and research facilities had the number at 10X, 20X the US estimates. New York did their own, and it was even worse. Governor at the time, wanted 40000 ventilators, which was many times more than even available world-wide. Fauchi, Redmond, and Burke cautioned that projections are only as good as the numbers plugged into them. New York, and the other places were completely wrong, and it was closer or less than the worst case range US govt. estimated. Canada has to date, been one of the worst at predicting anything about Covid... think they've even closed their boarders again, after just opening up a little.
  22. it's not la la land. In fact Thailand recognizes previous infections, and then an alternative route to meet the vaccine requirements. many countries do as well, Aruba, Costa Rica, Thailand to name a few; all airlines that I have checked have a similar policy i.e. requires a medical certificate stating when you were diagnosed with Covid. There's lot of studies on this subject, none of them mention la la land anywhere. The effectiveness is not exactly the same, but then again, take the 6 or 8 widely used Covid vaccines, and their effectiveness are all completely different.
  23. wow you are really really out there dude. then just to play along... how did it go away?? all by itself, and felt abused because nobody recognized it. These things do not just go away. again one plausible reason.
  24. several media sources suggested it, hence the removal of South Africa from many countries for travel.
  25. Then explain how the 1917 Flu pandemic ended... There was no miracle vaccine. Scientist love to say something is not true because it was not studied. But in 1917 there was no capacity to made a study of this nature. It didn't get bored and die of loneliness. It did not go away from herd immunity. Just one reasonable way it ended, just one please!! 15 years ago, globally scientists were fond of stating there was no evidence, at all, that there were planets in any other solar system besides ours. Of course they failed to point out that the technology to find them did not yet exist. A few years later several methods were created, and now there's thousands of them, everywhere.
