  1. There is no evidence that dual pricing held funding the NPs - with the possible exception of some marine parks in tourist hotspots We also can see that the main problem is appalling management practices by the DNP and their superiors. What Thailand needs to do is scrap the "banding" of NPs and price entry according to each NP - this could include discounts for locals, pensioners, students etc. Several reports have suggested raising the basic fee for everyone. The actually make money on any attraction like a national park th standard practice is to make money on "added value" once customers are inside e.g. Food, souvenirs and services. Long term and repeat admission is required and pricing according to the uses people make of the parks
  2. gain this is NOT dual pricing it is concessions for "deserving" groups. What Thailand needs to do is scrap the "banding" of NPs and price entry according to each NP - this could include discounts for locals, pensioners, students etc.
  3. Discounts and concessions for various groups is not "dual pricing" - I get into my local castle for free in UK, there ae student and pensioner concessions all over the world - it is not the same as dual pricing
  4. Always nice to get a quote from the other end of the chain.
  5. Erratum - 40% discount
  6. You're joking!!! - like this is a national park!?!?1 In fact Florida residents can get 490% discount on multiple day tickets or YEARLY passes.... this is hardly the same as charging 5 times over for foreigners, is it?
  7. probably the most pathetic excuse I've ever seen. You are trying to say - without any hard evidence - that the rangers on the gate are not capable of enforcing this measure which comes from central government - you also seem to think the "they all look the same" attitude - is applicable just because you can't tell the difference - who really is the racist here??
  8. People are confusing dual pricing with DISCOUNTS - they are not the same!
  9. Really? - I think you'll find it hard to get examples. Fees for National Parks in the US very from park to park as low as $3 or high as$80. There are season passes, discounts ofr locals and Senior citizens s well as students. So please say which ones are charging more for foreigners - and is it FIVE TIMES more than for US citizens and at which rate? Thailand on the other hand has 4 categories that are meant to cover the entire spectrum of parks available and charges foreigner 5 times the fee charges to Thai citizens. It isn't just the effrontery (or justification), the fact is it doesn't help finance national parks, it is just a symptom of how BADLY they are run and financed.
  10. Ah - a one quote wonder who doesn't even understand what he/she is quoting. Your figures contradict everything you say. but just look around a bit more - you'll find it VERY depressing for UK.
  11. you do understand what "complacent" means? I'm also not just referring to Boris, who basically is having a huff - but it couldn't be better for him as all his parliamentary colleagues will be left taking the blame.
  12. I don't support dual pricing at all, but people who think it's "racist" are idiots. Their lack of understanding just doesn't help at all. It isn't even xenophobic - it is used on a set of assumptions that basically believe that Thais shouldn't pay for their natural heritage but non-Thais should fund it instead.
  13. The UK's inflation rate is currently higher than any other G7 country. It is the only economy among this group in which inflation has hit double digits. UK is bottom next to Russia. It isn't just inflation in the UK - the damage caused by Brexit on top of world woes means that UK is now the only country going into real recession. Most of these woes are not surprises in most countries - the UK, however is almost alone in not being prepared for this. There seems to have been a complacency amongst the Brexit government and their supporter that no matter what, there would be no real change in the international and economic status of the UK - in fact this is totally misconceived already incomes, welfare and and growth are falling well behind the rest of Europe and the UK could quickly be relegated to a secondary or tertiary economic country.
  14. Of all the problems facing Thailand's road safety and he picks out this - which has possible political motivation????
  15. Thailand is already "involved" - in any trade war or conflict Thailand will be used by one side or the other as a base - this has been thecae for the past 100 years or even more. Thailand currently is having a dalliance with China and getting new railways and roads from the deal....perhaps not so good when it comes to paying off loans etc which will put them in debt to china. Essentially China's extension is trade-based but it seems the Xi is getting more and more dictatorial in his dotage and this could lead to serious problems for Thailand They have USE, European and JAnaese industries here in big numbers - they also have Taiwanese factories - if China polarises the situation, Thailand could have serious economic repercussions.
  16. Those who live in Thailand and think it doesn't affect them will need to think again. Especially if they are relying on UK pensions/capital to finance their stay in Thailand. The values of the pound may drop for a start. They may find their incomes from UK investments are reduced and will at least have to tighten their belts a bit. The economic woes of the UK are worse than just about everywhere else as despite having some similar causes the situation has been exacerbated by Brexit. just flying home is becoming more expensive and complicated. The current government was elected on a single issue "get Brexit done" - they haven't really achieved that, but when it comes to other issues they simply haven't had the skills to deal with it and now are being revealed as the incompetents they really are. The changeover of PM is a fine example - leaving the country in limbo for months whilst candidates fight it out as if they are in different parties whilst the ex-PM goes off in a huff. As the disruption of Covid recedes, the shortcomings of this government are becoming more and more exposed.
  17. Has the foreigner been confirmed as Cambodian? Was he/she driving?
  18. The reality is that Thailand and UK have about the same number of incidents per year - but in Thailand thanks to factors like the poor condition of roads and emergency services, the results are more serious.

  20. Liz Truss is likely to be the next PM - it is hard to see how the current government will last the term with such an inept crew in charge. This might be a good thing as it may well bring forward the next general election.
  21. The RTP don't have a properly trained road incident unit. To understand the road safety problems in tHailand each incident needs to scientifically analysed - this occurs in countries with the lowest crash injury and death rates. A crash report form is an essential starting point Key variables typically collected include: · crash location (including geographic coordinates); · time of day, day of week, month of year, year; · information on those who were involved (including road user type, age, gender, injury sustained); · details regarding the road (whether at an intersection, speed limit, curvature, traffic control, markings); · details on the environment (light conditions, weather, road markings/surface, wet or dry); · information regarding what happened in the crash (vehicle movement types, objects struck (including off-road), and contributory factors such as speed, alcohol use or driver distraction); · vehicle factors (type of vehicles involved). Te figures in Thailand have remained pretty constant for the last 3 decades, which isn't surprising s they haven't even taken the first steps in real road safety.
  22. My comment was hypothetical - the point is how "blame" doesn't work in tackling road safety and scientific analysis is needed which the Thai police can't do.
