  1. Didn't get very far, did they? Subsequent videos show these people were detained and processed. Clearly, more resources are needed to deal with the border. Too bad the Republicans refuse to provide full funding for border security. But this has nothing to do with the topic.
  2. This topic is about checking into a hotel without a passport. Have you used your pink card for that purpose?
  3. Both Trump and Alina Habba stated that Trump had the money for the appeal.
  4. The second impeachment blocked Trump from pardoning the Jan 6 insurrectionists.
  5. How can a state determine immigration status of a person in real time? If a cop detains a person, how can they know if the person is legal or not at that point?
  6. Flying into Suvarnabhumi yesterday: The plane was only half full. Haven't seen that since Covid ended. Zone 1 Immigration was closed. Zone 2 was open, but no big line. In other words, not many people flying into Thailand. But ...something strange happened: When checking in, the Webcam took my photo, but the computer said it was only a 38% match with my prior photo. The second try was a bit better. I gave the IO my California drivers' license, and he entered that into my record, and let me into Thailand.
  7. I am still not counting Trump out - there is still a chance for a last second loan from somewhere.
  8. That's not the position of Science. You are attacking a straw man. I can remember when the scientific consensus, some 40 years ago, was that the planet was going to warm. The Deniers claimed there would be no warming, or maybe there would be cooling. Some Deniers claimed as late as 10 years ago that there was no warming. The good old days.
  9. There are lots of areas where science doesn't know everything. On the other hand, science Deniers are clueless about just about everything. Except how to collect money from the oil companies.
  10. They can be jailed for committing crimes. Remember the illegal who killed Laken Riley - he had been in jail, but was released because reasons. The issue comes when police, in the absence of any crime, ask them for papers, and then arrest them for not being in the country legally.
  11. There may not be a carve out for Mercedes, Trump may scrounge everywhere to get his $455 million.
  12. Not exactly, SCOTUS has not yet ruled on the policy, it's just allowing the status quo until and unless the issue is elevated for a final ruling. I don't see a problem with the state police enforcing the law - until and unless the police are unable to determine immigration status and deport some legal residents. In other words, if the police demonstrate they aren't competent, then they shouldn't do this particular job.
  13. Weren't you the guy saying that Biden would be impeached by the House? Why should we listen to you now?
  14. There isn't a lot of support for presidential immunity among the Trump fans here - they seem to understand that it's just a delay tactic by Trump's lawyers. The Trump fans don't have much to say here, so they just whine about Biden.
  15. I am sending off my passport for renewal, a process that will take weeks. So, if I should want to check in at a hotel, what are my options? I will have photocopies of my non-O visa, my entry stamp, and the photo page of the passport, is that enough? Any other ideas?
  16. Wasn't Elon an illegal alien?
  17. One of the methods used to disenfranchise minorities is to mandate that special ID cards are required to vote: https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/research-reports/challenge-obtaining-voter-identification Nearly 500,000 eligible voters do not have access to a vehicle and live more than 10 miles from the nearest state ID-issuing office open more than two days a week. Many of them live in rural areas with dwindling public transportation options. More than 10 million eligible voters live more than 10 miles from their nearest state ID-issuing office open more than two days a week. 1.2 million eligible black voters and 500,000 eligible Hispanic voters live more than 10 miles from their nearest ID-issuing office open more than two days a week. People of color are more likely to be disenfranchised by these laws since they are less likely to have photo ID than the general population. Many ID-issuing offices maintain limited business hours. For example, the office in Sauk City, Wisconsin is open only on the fifth Wednesday of any month. But only four months in 2012 — February, May, August, and October — have five Wednesdays. In other states — Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and Texas — many part-time ID-issuing offices are in the rural regions with the highest concentrations of people of color and people in poverty.
