Just check the excess mortality figures for Thailand.

National reporting for diseases should reflect the true spread of the disease. To the extent that the reports do not reflect reality due to testing problems, the reports are inaccurate. Example: I weighed myself this morning. Except, I didn’t actually step on the scale. So, my report is I weigh O kilos, because that’s what the scale says. 100% accurate, per your standards.

I cannot even begin to respond.

Before you guys go down this path, please compare the amount of per capita Covid testing in Thailand vs Western Europe or the US. Once you do that, tell us why you are confident that Thailand’s Covid numbers are accurate.

I have a lady come to my condo for massage once a week. About every two months, she sends me a photo of a relative in the hospital. I guess she wants a donation, but I ignore her. I think she doesn’t know that I know about the 30 baht medical plan in Thailand. If I donated to every Thai lady with a relative in the hospital, I would be broke in a month. Thai families are large, and, in Isaan, they are in and out of hospitals.

In Western nations, coroners are quite precise in determining “died of” or “died with”. In Thailand, many deaths are not verified by coroners.

Thailand had significant excess mortality numbers during Covid, which indicates under reporting of Covid deaths. This under reporting is common in many countries in Asia and Africa.

Perhaps you don't know, but most Western nations have an elaborate system for determining cause of death for all persons, using impartial coroners under strict guidelines. Conversely, if a Thai dies at home in the village, determination of cause of death is perfunctory, and the body is disposed of quickly, ie cremation at the temple. That's why so many Covid deaths were reported as pneumonia, since no one bothers to uncover the basis of the pneumonia, especially if the deceased were not tested before death.

I hope you understand that reporting mortality in Thailand does not follow the same rules as in USA, Europe and Britain.

This lady fled her Thai boyfriend for a couple of days, went back to his place, and is now happy again. Hopefully, she will have forgotten whatever issue she had last week. The other lady who wanted to talk to me has a buyer for her bar and wanted to talk about business issues. So, no money requests, I dodged a bullet.

I don't know personally any Thai ladies who were stuck working room in Bahrain. I do know ladies who got swindled into working room in Singapore, Hong Kong, and South Korea. Also, I understand that happens in Malaysia, as well. I am not suggesting that every lady who goes to these countries is forced to work room, but there are some who do.

that’s not even the real problem, which comes when they confiscate the girl’s passport, and not pay her until the airfare, visa cost and agent’s fee are paid for. In some countries, the girls work “room”, ie, they have to stay in a room all day and take on whatever customers come by. Typically, after a month, they go home penniless. There are some who do hang in there, and make money after the first month, but it is hard work. i am not suggesting that this is the fate of all Thai ladies who go overseas, it’s largely the luck of the draw.

I will agree that there are more factory jobs than 20 years ago, but only for ladies under 40.

It's almost painful to see some older men in bars, doing grandfather jokes with the ladies, some with glassy eyes indicating serious health problems, even though they may be close to my age. Of course, even if you are old, you still think you are young, so i might look as ancient as those guys. The killer for me is when the old guys get their hands on the music system in the bar and play old music from the 60's. The energy level in the bar visibly drops. Here's a hint for oldtimers: don't play old English songs in the bar. I will admit to playing DJ in the bar, but i play Becky G, Maluma, Bad Bunny, etc. at the request of the ladies. If you don't know who they are, you are too old.

An observation. And a questIon: how do you know when you are too old?

There is an interesting parallel between Farangs who are too old to be hitting the bars vs ladies who are getting too old to work bar. As long as a Farang has money, and can walk, a lot continue to go to bars. Even if they are not 100% mentally competent. I suspect that the ladies squeeze big bucks out of these guys. The question is whether older Farangs have an idea that their days going to bars are coming to an end, or whether they just plan to party until they drop? Same with bar girls. I am seeing that the median age of bar girls is rising, but some age better than others. What I am not seeing is any signs that bar girls who are older, but still pulling customers, are planning on retirement. What I see is that they continue to work until they cannot get customers any more. Unless they snag one of the older Farangs for a “permanent” relationship. Some older long time ladies are really deep into the lifestyle, they spend their earnings on young karaoke boys, and can not stop until they run out of money. I don’t see any sign from them that they see the crash coming.

Well, one of the ladies that wanted to “talk to me” this week got into a fight with her Thai boyfriend, he beat the <deleted> out of her, she fled, and now she is making noises about moving in with me. Which is worse than asking for a loan. The norm is for her to be angry for 2 days after a fight. Hopefully, she will get over it by tomorrow and not think about moving in with me anymore. I can’t afford free sex, I would much rather pay.

The common term is "bar owner", but you are free to call people who operate bars whatever you like.

Same as any bar owner, she has a lease.

She has an interesting bio, which is nothing like you describe. Does she go with customers? Sure. She also owns the bar where she works. So, finding a place to sleep for free is not a priority.

I have to listen to their pitch when I get back. One is probably just going to ask for a “loan”, the other will likely have a business proposition.
