  1. After my career as an itinerant guitarist, I founded an aerospace company that is currently building a space station for NASA. Along the way, I invented a rack based science platform for ISS, as well as other spacecraft, including Virgin Galactic. I never was involved in antenna issues, although my newest company is looking at phased array systems for LEO satellites.
  2. Reflective bird tape is quite effective, especially if a breeze moves it around. The only downside is that it also works on some humans.
  3. I have a very small solar system in my condo, sized so the meter won’t run backwards. It’s intended to reduce my electric bill, not eliminate it. But, I do have a battery powerbank set up that charges constantly. If my AC mains fail (which often happens when it rains), I have a manual switch which diverts solar power to my off-grid inverter. I can then manually connected my refrigerator and lights to the off-grid inverter for basic needs.
  4. A standard grid tie inverter requires AC power to operate. If the AC power fails, the inverter shuts down, same as your TV.

  6. you can't recharge a dead laptop battery. Typically, the BMS is fried, or one of the cells inside is dead.
  7. i would be happy to buy dead laptop batteries for 100 baht.
  8. I applied again, using a Samsung phone and the Chrome browser, and there were no problems. Except that I applied last week, but my visa is still processing…
  9. The weather in Pattaya turned cool, maybe that means rainy season is over. Very comfortable weather now, but Thai people will soon be wearing ski parkas.
  10. Get a grip. I was specifically referring to ladies who work bar.
  11. A lady friend of mine lost 10,000 baht to these guys.
  12. Obviously, discussions about international relations or space travel are out the window, but the ladies do like to talk about work related stuff. Like how crappy some bars managers are, how crazy some of the ladies are, and course, how poor they are.
  13. You are implying that the ladies are faking it? i am 100% sure that the ladies are squealing in delight when their work is done, and they get paid.
  14. Getting back to the topic, I have already accomplished much more than I ever expected, I made my mark on history, making commercial space launch possible in the US. and along the way, I founded one of the biggest new aerospace companies, I rented the Mir space station, and am starting a new company. I knew Elon Musk when he was just a millionaire. So, if I waste my time enjoying young ladies in Thailand, that’s a just reward. I have done my part.
  15. I have done EVisas for Vietnam before, but the EVisa application is a bit different from before. There are “radio” buttons for some fields. Unfortunately, clicking on a button brings up a text box with the words “Choose Nationality”, for example, but clicking on the test does nothing. In other words, there is no way to insert your nationality, or complete any field that has radio buttons. Anyone complete an Evisa app lately?
  16. Most bargirls have a "sell by" date around age 40, and most are aware of imminent forced retirement. There are a few who can continue to work bar into their 40s, but they are exceptional. So, bargirls start to think about retirement at some point in their 30s. Among the chief strategies : Marry a Farang. This is Plan A for many, but it has drawbacks. For one thing, its not easy to live with someone you don't love, for a long time. I have run into former bargirls who married for money, and its not pretty, especially when assets have already been transferred to them. Some deride their spouses, while others can maintain a facade of respect, especially if there are more assets to be transferred to them. Another problem is how to continue to see their Thai boyfriend. That can often mean letting the Farang husband go to bars, while they visit their " brother". Another common plan is to open a shop or restaurant back home. These have a high failure rate, and the bargirl returns to the bar after a few months. Strangely, working in a bar is poor preparation for running a business. Working massage for another 10 years is common. They can tell their Thai husband that they only massage, no boom-boom. Not stopping work is another strategy. This often has tragic results, as the bargirl has ever fewer customers. At some point, their Thai boyfriend will leave, as the money runs out, and he is forced to find a better cash cow. Another strategy: get a regular day job. Since factories don't hire older ladies, this is not common. Or the lady may get a low paying job at a shop, and go out to Beach Road after work, to get one customer before she goes home. Really uncommon: a bargirl who saved for retirement.
  17. I am attempting to complete the Evisa online, but uploading the required photo doesn’t seem to work, I just get a red “application photo is required” comment. I have tried reducing the file size to 135kb, any hints on what I am doing wrong?
  18. So says my bargirlfriend, who recruits ladies for bars and gogos. Typically, bargirls are now operating under 10 day contracts. But, it’s unusual for a lady to work the 10 days. The reason is, when their bar shuts down, the ladies head for the boy bars that don’t close until 6 am. Which means the ladies are still hungover when their bar opens. So they barfine themselves and stay in the room. The only deterrent is that they have to pay cash to barfine themselves. If they work for an agency, their barfine is deducted at the end of their 10 day contract, so they never see the expense, it’s not tangible to them. Or, they have a new boyfriend and want to play rather than work. However, that’s only when the boyfriend is new. Once he has his hooks in her, he will drive the lady to work, borrow some cash from her, and go play while she works. If you buy a drink for a lady in a bar, she will tell you the story about her husband running off when she has a kid or two, requiring her to work bar to send money home. The reality is that the ladies send very little home, but blow most of their earnings on boys, clothes, tattoos, etc. Note when I write “boys” that includes tomboys. As July 1 rolls around, new bars and gogos are opening, so there is tremendous demand for ladies and salaries are rising. A lady could earn 30,000+ baht in a month, not counting drink commissions or earnings from customers. This is the best time to be a boyfriend for a bargirl, especially a gogo “model”.
