  1. Would i get some sort of reward right now for taking police men in uniform without helmets, riding like monkeys on my road? Tons of them and they seem high ranking.

Police are allowed to drive without helmet.

  2. Don't misquote me. I have always said, "Phuket is outpricing itself in the South East Asian holiday market."

Yes, you have said many things, and you have also said on a regular basis that there are no returning guests coming to Phuket because it is overpriced, the tuktuks are too expensive plus mafia, etc.

But now suddenly there are no rooms available because of all the returning guests?

  3. They are getting married, they are young. Phuket's beaches at night outside of patong are for retired couples and patong is for any sex depraved person with easly pleased taste buds they really don't come anywhere close to koh samet for young couples. They could even do it on the beach there at night, as new couples like to do.

They could also rent a ATV/motorbike for a few days, at the price of one 500meters ride of a tuktuk in phuket. Phuket might be decent to go snorkling/seeing waterfalls and other touristy stuff but for the beaches? cmon. They are fine beaches for expat but pretty sub-par for someone coming here for a week looking to hcelebrate and not just sit there.

You really don't know Phuket, not even Patong.

  4. dont: Splash jungle, please dont give them an extra $, most expats are trying to get this place boycotted for it to go bankrupt(its getting close)

    Why?

    And who are "most expats"?

    Yes, same question here.

I think they are way overpriced, but that is a different matter.

  5. There has been some proof that for the last 5 years, some companies and government have paid people to always refute any negativity in their favor on online forums

I guess there's a few on thai visa..

Where the heck did you get that from BTW?

Are you seriously implying Thai Visa is paying to refute negativity?

  6. There has been some proof that for the last 5 years, some companies and government have paid people to always refute any negativity in their favor on online forums

I guess there's a few on thai visa.. the aquarium's are hard to see through, they have not been washed in forever, most of the writing is in thai(the only exhibit you can see something is the tsunami at the end). The water is dirty. Most of the small organism that you should see on a zooming camera, have broken cameras. The lights off in the fish of the deep sea exhibit, can't see a single thing, the walkpath+end aquarium has some large fish but nothing exotic, just random fish you see everywhere in large size(same fish you will find at phuket zoo).

The whole thing was setup for the gift shop.

and please do not refer to the surrounding beauty as the aquarium, it has nothing to do with it.

It's definitely more fun to just get to a fish farm/pet shop for fish, more variety and cleaner.

The second explanation to the positive feedback is that some people are amused just by having something to do outside of their living room.. but the first one makes more sense. I caneven find a lot of fun in the horrid phuket zoo, the Phuket Aquarium is just dreadful and run down.

And the third explanation is that some people simply do not agree with you.

Have been there quite a few times, no dirty glass, writing in English and Thai (no Russian as of yet though), the water is clean, don't know about the cameras, the deep sea fish don't like light, they live in the deep sea with hardly any light.

In general the aquarium is a fair reflection of the marine life you can see while diving in the Andaman Sea, and is quite educational as well.

Very enjoyable to spend a few hours.

  7. I don't think you will be able to all stay at the same hotel, due to return guests booking 12 months ahead, year on year. I would think your crew will have to be spread out over a few different hotels.

And that from the same guy who is claiming all the tome there are no returning guests because phuket, especially patong, is overpriced and poor value for money.

  8. Took about 15 minutes to find a space, then when I came back, some <deleted> had parked in front of my car.

I presume in Neutral with hand brake off? Parking like that is very common and accepted here. Simply move the car, or ask somebody to move the car for you, and move on.

  9. He is saying that the tv acts as a heater, not that he wants it to.

OK it must be his ozzie accent...as he wrote it..'buying a new TV for the Bedroom which does not have central heating "' Confusing to some..

I have 42 inch and does give off some heat for sure, but not so much that it effects the whole room to any degree.

He meant 'bedroom which does not have central a/c', but won't admit he made a mistake.

Wrong, i meant i do not want a TV that thinks its a heater :D

That means this post does not make any sense, so you're right, that is probably what you meant:

"We have a Plasma at present but it puts out a lot of heat and i am thinking

about buying a new TV for the Bedroom which does not have central heating "

  10. He is saying that the tv acts as a heater, not that he wants it to.

  11. A driving on suspended license is a criminal offense and could result in a trip to the local jail until you post bond. You should be able to look up the drivers license office to the state you were licensed in on the Internet. Give them a call and ask them about your drivers license status and if you can now drive on a Thai license in your state while visiting. This may save you a lot of pain and at the very least will give you peace of mind.

But if the OP was driving on a valid Thai license, he would not be driving on a suspended license would he ?...:whistling:

Although not the US have driven on a Thai license & IDP based on a Thai DL in countries where I still have drivers licenses with no problem...I really cant see it being a problem

    Exactly.

With regards rental they will not allow the customer to get a vehicle without a valid licence. I have no US experience so I cant say about Thai licence validity but I know from experience that numerous western countries have a reciprocal arrangement.

As long as he is not a resident. Then the rules change and he needs a valid licence from that State.

So do you qualify as a non resident?

But a Thai DL with the accompanying Thai IDP would be considered a valid DL for the purposes of hiring a car in the US, irrespective of the OP's citizenship, what do Thai nationals do if they go on holiday ?...your saying they cant hire a car...they can..

Being resident or non-resident is irrelevant in this case.

    No, could be relevant.

Being a US resident he would need a US permit, being a non US resident the Thai permit with IDP would be sufficient.

  12. Has anyone bought one of the LED TVs that came out recently

I have noticed there price has dropped recently.

How does there picture compare to LED and Plasma

We have a Plasma at present but it puts out a lot of heat and i am thinking

about buying a new TV for the Bedroom which does not have central heating

Must be cold in winter then Peter.

  13. Posted here rather than start a new thread that might get moved to another forum.

Question: Does anyone know if you need to report to Immigrations at the time of changing your address? My 90 day is due a couple weeks after I move, and I'm not sure if I should wait until then to report the address change or make a separate trip to report it.

    Thx!

Can't help with official rule, but I would simply wait until regular 90 days and report it at that point.

  14. Maybe it helps to some, but not to me.

    Where is Thanyapura/PIA?

Google is a great internet research tool.:D

I was trying to be subtle about it, but some people don't seem to get that. What is the point of posting an explanation like the one given, which does not explain at all? Just add some practical information like location, phonenumber, website, or anything that might help.

  15. We can confirm as we have a mail this morning from the organizers, the match will take place at Thanyapura Sports Club, (that's the re branded PIA place) on the18th June with a kids footbll clinic on the 19th.

    Hope that helps.

Maybe it helps to some, but not to me.

  16. I agree that the forum has become boring recently.

Generally I agree with your summation, except the long-term expats are just as negative than those trying to work here.

They have different reasons - the long-term ex-pat has realised what life is really about here. Some realise that the positives outweigh the negatives (whilst trusting a v small number of people), others just get fed-up and either go home or become negative about everything.

Those trying to work here realise that its not the same as their home-country! And get VERY bad-tempered about it .

Now you've made me curious. How long do you call 'long term'?

Generally, I think it takes around 3 years before reality starts to seep in, but the most negative are those that have been here for 10 years or so - again generally.

I work here, am not bad tempered, realise the positive outweigh the negatives, generally trust people (am very carefull with expats though) and have been here a lot longer than 3 years. Maybe because I have been here longer than your 10 years?

So I'm really glad to see you added 'generally speaking' to your opinion. I don't agree at all with that opinion though.

  18. I doubt any expat farangs living or working here legally would be offended by my words,...

Lol, make up yopur mind Peter. Now you say a farang can work here legally, earlier you said "The people i call Farangs are the ones who work illegally here".

I think you should read my first post again, i did mention people with work permits working here legally :D

Yes, but those you call expats, not farangs.

Why the need for your own definition BTW, and not follow the general ones, as indicated by Chainsaw?
