Good luck to anyone trying to apply at a Thai embassy abroad!
Is there any provision in Nationality act or Ministerial regulations? (To apply at an Embassy)
I read it again but couldn't find.
Maybe you know?

I do have an income but my wife's is higher and from my understanding just one of the married partners has to have an income above 30k THB, not both? We don't have children (yet) if that makes a difference. Maybe I am mistaking, haha.
I mostly work freelance but with some convincing I think I could get a full-time job for a company if that would be necessary. Thanks for bringing it up.
Is it recommend to get Thai nationality over getting permanent residency? Are there no disadvantages comparing one to another?
Either one requires a Thai work permit and Thai tax payment receipts

I saw the Post article too but the details are not very clear. The language testing will be done by a sub-committee and it sounds like it will be similar to the tests for PR which are also done by a panel these days. The PR test is just aural comprehension and speaking. No reading or writing but the citizenship tests already had optional reading and writing tests since 2010. So it is possible this will be included as an option or even compulsory but didn't see any reference to this. Since this is just a ministerial regulation, it can't do away with the 2008 amendment to the Act that exempts applicants married to Thais to have knowledge of the language. However, what they could do is increase the weighting to Thai language in the points system, as they did in 2010 in the wake of the amendment that allowed those married to Thais to leapfrog the PR stage.
The people who sit on the MOI interview panel may be fed up with seeing applicants who can't communicate effectively in Thai and have to rely their Thai wives to interpret for them, since the 2008 amendment made this possible. Of course it has never been possible for applicants on the basis of PR to use an interpreter, so this never happened before 2008. They must also recognise that the SB language and knowledge of Thailand test lack rigour, as they must interview people who can barely speak a word of Thai with astonishingly high points for language.
A friend who is waiting for his MOI interview got his agent to call SB and they said the new system will only apply to new applicants whose files have not yet been forwarded to the MOI. But who knows, if this will be the case. When they introduced the affidavit requirement, some applicants, whose files were already in the MOI, were recalled to provide affidavits but some weren't for some reason. While the current minister remains in office, I don't that they will recall applicants who applied under the old rules but, if he goes a new broom might feel like flexing his muscles. I assume the new fees of 10,000 baht will only apply to those who haven't paid yet.
3. Clearly specify the time period for considering and examining the qualifications for applying for Thai citizenship or applying for naturalization as a Thai The competent official must complete the process within 90 days or 120 days in the case of filing abroad. which can be extended for no more than 30 days at a time, but not more than 2 times and must be in the case of necessity only (previously, there was no time limit for considering and checking qualifications)
I have tears???? Krab pom

But the new regulations also mention about the 90 day processing deadline which can be extended by 30 days , 2 times. 120 days deadline if applying from abroad.
Are they that efficient? I don't think so

Hi DrJoy,
Today afternoon, I went to a SCB Ranch located in the Bond Street,Pakkret & told the bank staff that I need them to update my change of Nationality in their system for all my accounts including Savings,RMF, LTF etc. She took all my passbooks,ID card, previous nationality PP. Checked with her HQ for the procedure & then filled up a form & took my signatures on 3 pages of form . She also took my Tabien ban copy & Nationality Certificate copies. Took my signatures on all the copies & told me that the job from my side is complete. She told me that it might take about 2 weeks for updation in the system.
All this, was completed in 30 minutes.
Thanks for the update, highly appreciated.

Glad to hear I won't need to leave and re-enter Thailand to apply for my new non O.
Won't make the mistake of forgetting my re-entry permit again, that's for sure.
Sort of related question:
In several years time I would like to apply for a permanent resident status, could this incident in any way negatively impact my application a few years from now?
Once again, many thanks to all of you for your friendliness and kind help.
PR requires 3 years of UNBROKEN work permit & extension of stay.
You never open your PP and have a look at it?
Near the 'extension of stay' its written in clear English - 'To keep your stay Re-entry permit must be made before leaving Thailand'

Exactly... Were these people were accepted in their's birth countries? Are Thai even accept other Thais? If yes then why scores of Thais wants to leave Thailand. The most important thing is that you accept yourself and be in peace and rest everything becomes irrelevant.
True.
They want to leave Thailand but ' No can speak English', hence , cannot.

Thai also never blend in.
I have met several Thais in Australia, most of them cannot speak English fluently even after spending several years.
They hardly have Aussie friends, they are like a 'Gaggle of Geese' who quack quack together.

@ubonjoe There was an order from the Immigration department about the extension of re-entry for all PR holders, who were stuck abroad due to covid.
What was the last date? has it been extended?

In K Bank , you can do swift transfer in EUR thru the application itself.
Limit is 49,999 USD, equivalent in other currencies.
I have done it several times, painless and efficient.

Actually the US Embassy does not have an address letter.
What's interesting abt the US Embassy is that they have a self sworn affidavit.
You can write I Mr. Harry Peters, an american citizen, hold US PP number this and my address in Thailand is xxxxx
I swear the above is true. The Embassy will stamp it as ' Seen at the US Embassy, Bangkok' or signature of Mr. Harry is verified.
All Thai Govt Departments including Banks , accept it happily.

Not sure why the discussion about resident certificates.
It comes down to the individual banks what they want, but in my experience (5 accounts with 3 banks, phuket, bkk and pattaya) no bank has ever wanted a Cert Of Res.
Correct.
@noodleslayer Visit atleast 10 branches of different banks. Sure someone will say yes.
If not, make them greedy and say I will buy your expensive ATM card . The a/c gets magically opened.

Can I get this address cert while living in an airbnb? Or can I get an address cert when I get my 1 year lease in a condo?
I assume you're telling me to first go to Chaengwattana and get this certificate before bothering applying for a bank account?
Yes you can with an airbnb.
The owner of the airbnb has to report your stay with the Immigration within 24 hours. Its called the TM38.
You take a copy of TM38 from your Landlord and then can get address cert

Its Muang Thong Thani for people who reside in Bangkok, not Chaengwattana.
You can get an address cert from your Embassy as well.
