I have to ask. Do most domestic tourists stay in the 5 star hotels and go shopping

like foreign tourists? Do most local tourists go to the fancy restaurants? I doubt that most

    No easy answer.

In Pattaya there are Thai tourists staying in the Hilton or their own condo, and buying in luxury shops from Terminal 21 or Central Festival...

and there are pickups with the whole family in the back who park near a beach and sleep in their pickup and on the beach before leaving the next day...

No idea on the ration between these 2 categories.

The people that have not worked for 3 months seemed to have plenty of money to come out on the Holiday weekend just passed or did you miss that?

1- a weekend at the beach doesn't cost a lot. Just petrol for the pickup.

2- only a minority of people didn't work last 2-3 months. The majority did work (yes!) and so has easily money enough for a weekend.

Of course many youngsters voted brexit. But the vast majority of the youth voted remain, as the stats show. "Nearly three quarters (73%) of 18 to 24 year-olds voted to remain" //

There will be more-and-more young people mostly wanting back privileged they had with EU, and less-and-less older retirees mostly wanting leaving EU... So I wonder how many years before another referendum will be demanded by a majority

Made of copper.... it'll be bright green soon. //

Your are right. Color will change as it did for the Liberty Statue, but it will take time.

The Liberty Statue had a dull brown color when in Paris, and when delivered to USA.

It took about 30 years to turn the color to its actual greenish color.

  5. IMHO what is important in this "Beijing market outbreak" is not the fact that a new cluster can happen (we all know that it can and will happen in most countries!) but the way that China responded to it: quickly and strongly.

When i see how most the population of my country (France) seems to have forgot in just a few days everything about the virus and the Covid guidance rules, I am a lot of more worried on how my country would react in a similar case and about statistics coming in next weeks... ????

If the farang has no Thai family and no one in his home country cares nor wants the body and no one local cares enough either then someone mentioned that the Thai Government authorises a Temple Cremation. So who pays for that? It still costs money.

I remember reading that some temples have a "service" to take care of cremation for poor people who can't pay for it. I also remember reading at least once that a farang (a beggar) who died without money and family get a cremation through this service. I don't know details.

A very basic cremation may cost 20-30'000B "only".

Songkran isn't the problem. The problem is the foreigners. I have never had a problem with a Thai during the celebrations. I have had plenty of problems with foreigners.

I bet that you stay in the Beach Road to Soi Buakhao area...

If you went east of 3rd Rd, or worse east of Sukhumvit, you would have certainly had a lot of "Songkran problems" with Thai ... as I did. ????

How much time does it take an Immigration man to put a dated stamp in a passport, directly after the last one, so that the person's movements can be easily seen. 5 seconds?

The problem is not where Immigration put the stamp, but the fact that in many countries they don't put any stamp. Take Europe by example where Europeans can travel in all EU country without any stamp.

How small is the contribution of farangs in all bars of Thailand?

Even in Pattaya it may not be so big.

    Really?

How many farangs go to Pattaya to go to the bars in a normal year? How many hotels depend on farangs going to Pattaya to go to the bars in a normal year? How many bar girls //

Uh? What are you talking about?

My question - and this thread - was just about bars, not hotels, restaurants, girls...

IMHO contribution of farangs in this business (compared to Thai one) is largely overestimated on this forum.

Good post, but be aware that rules may be a little bit different depending of your country. Good to have a read on your embassy or consulate website IMHO.

    Simple stupidity.

What matters is not the passport but where you have been the last 14 days (or longer if you like).

Simple to see in everyones passport.

Not stupidity IMHO. They need to make rules that are easy to understand and check, even if they apply well only to 99% or 90% of the population.

As said above, there are a lot of cases where you can't prove (with only your passport) were you were in the last 2 weeks.

And for those who could prove it, it would often not be that easy and a big stress and lost of time. So you need a rule where people know - before they fly - that they will be autorise to enter. Who want to fly when taking the risk to be refused at arrival?!

Better to have a rule that works for the majority of a country population, than no rule at all and no access at all for people of that country.

Which decisions against farangs in last 2 years?
