Emirates are going above and beyond to help people with cancelled flights. My NON REFUNDABLE Business Saver ticket BKK-DXB-LGW that was scheduled for April 5th was reticketed and is now an effective "open ticket" good for 2 years. //

I am in a similar case, but Emirates is even better than that, as you can even change your destination for a nearby country (Vietnam, Cambodia, ...)  ????

    https://www.emirates.com/fr/english/help/keep-your-ticket/ :

You can choose to keep your ticket and we’ll extend its validity to 24 months from the date of your original booking. The fare amount you paid for your original booking will be accepted for any flight to the same destination/region* at any time with no fees during this period.

I keep seeing the comment that America has poorly handled the current pandemic. The naysayers continue to focus on the number of deaths pitched against America's population count compared to a global population. And if we only considered the stats that are being reported by other nations it does seem that there is problem with our response the the pandemic. //

Naysayers? I think that for most members it's nothing personal against USA.

How could one think that it's not poorly handled with result shown on this graph ?

Is that really an issue? How many condo fires have their been in Pattaya or Thailand. I can think of only the odd small fire and no one was hurt.

In the last year (last 8 months actually) :

    ...

All these "condo fires" are in fact "one unit fires"

The poor guy who died last year was a case of "smoking in bed when drunk". This could happen in any kind of accomodation.

The important thing to me is that in all these recent small fires, and even if it fully destroyed one unit, it didn't spread to other units or to the condo itself. ????

When I wanted to come and stay in Thailand about 14 years ago and was told I would need 400.000 or 800,000 Bt in my bank account, although I could easily afford it, I would not have stayed, and just went somewhere else.

So you should complain to the Administration of Your country! It's Not as if Thai Immigration was refusing Embassy Income Letters, so unfair to complain against Thailand.

(Not the place to debate about that though. Many long threads on that already.)

I used to stay at VT 7 on jomtien road high floor, nice view but facing the sun all day is a big problem and must keep curtains closed, even with a big corner unit, sun was everywhere. I won't repeat facing the sea, it would be better to have a unit on the side of the building. //

I agree that sun can be a serious problem, so you must choose your condo carefully.

    - VT7 is in north Jomtien and facing the bay towards South-West. It get a lot of afternoon sun!

    - I lives in Center Condo, in south Pattaya, facing the bay towards North-West. Probably the best orientation to get a minimum of sun ????

US embassy in the US has it.

Thanks. Yes, but an American website. Not an official Thai one for me.

You have to contact the embassy in the country where you are at to get info and apply for it.

Nothing similar to the USA one on European websites that I checked

And just no news at all on the official E-Visa site:  https://www.thaievisa.go.th/

We will have to wait and see...

    A) How many is a small number of expats use the 400/800k in the bank?

    B) where is information of such available to the general public?

Don't think there is any page with all these data. But some embassies publishes yearly statistics. Mine (France) shows that majority of expats are on Work Permit. The 400/800k method is for married/retirees only; about 1/3 of French expats. Not many expats must use this money-in-the bank method if they are not from USA/UK/AU, as the embassy letter method is usually a lot easier, and even those from USA/UK/AU may prefer the monthly-transfer method as many don't like the idea of a "big" amount of money blocked in a Thai bank. All that make me think than only a small part of expats may use the 400/800k method...

No higher than the 7th floor - ever.
    Why ?
Because apparently that's as high as Thai fire trucks can reach in an emergency. //

Not exact. As it is the Pattaya forum, and as I live in Center Condo, I can tell you that firemen confirmed several times that their big ladder truck allows them to reach the roof of the condo, a 16 floors building. The flat roof of most high buildings is probably the safest location in case of big fire for those on higher floors.

I refused to use cargo as most come out freezing, if they survive at all. It can be minus 60 degrees at 30,000 ft. That is assuming they are placed in the correct part of the cargo bay where there is oxygen.

Temperature in the plane, even in cargo, has nothing to do with outside temperature !

Cargo are pressurised and heated. If I remember well, rules say that cargo temperature can't fall below 5°C, but cargo area with animals is kept at about 20°C ????

    Edit: Air Canada : 7°C and 18°C

Despite Vice President Mike Pence's rosy outlook on the coronavirus pandemic, record-setting spikes in states across the west and south of the United States (Arizona, Florida, Texas) are keeping the case counts in the country worryingly steady.  ///

    Thanks. Interesting link,

and a rather frightening graph :
