  1. I thought the 1999-2004 exemption had many restrictions with which VT never would be able to comply,

like the land maximum 1 Rai and not more than 7 storeys.

Hi. I don't think their is such restrictions. By example Center Condo is a 16 storeys building and has a 90% foreign threshold (I think), because of the rules when it was built.

I don't think there has been any change for such condo units. They always were grandfathered for the foreign unit and - seeing that there is frequently resales in this condo - I would know if any buyer or seller got this problem.

  2. Meanwhile in seaside resorts, they still not even ask to see a passport...

Strange. No one is ever looking at my stamps and most of the time Ive Used DLs to check in.

I don't know in what kind of hotel/place you are staying, but I often accompany my friends to their hotel when they arrive in Pattaya,

and the hotel *always* asks and makes copies of their passports. xermm.gif.pagespeed.ic.7f2Kr9k8HC.png

As for myself, the only places in Thailand who didn't ask for my passport were some small guesthouses where I was staying just for 1 night. unsure.png.pagespeed.ce.E7Vo3qsmeC.png

  3. I just went to immigration today trying to get an extension of 30 days after a visa waiver entry in Thailand.

immigration officers told me they give only 7 days for 1900 bahts and no 30 days.

About 3 weeks ago, all you could get at Jomtien Immigration for 1'900 baht was this 7-days extension,

but they were also "offering" a 30-days extension if you pay 3'000 baht...

    Discussed here: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/763503-30-day-extension-at-jomtien/

Seems surprising that this 30-days would not be available now...?

  4. 7-11 great, but sometimes bill lingers in pocket or mailbox too long, this is good news.

There was already another Provincial Electricity Authority bill payment centre

in Royal Garden, not very far from BigC Xtra, avoiding to go to Naklua

Agree that direct debit is the best way to pay it.

  5. On google maps it says that soi 7 is soi 8

    I don't understand your problem ??

The link you gave is near Flipper Lodge Hotel

and this hotel is in Soi 8, not Soi 7.

I just made a virtual trip in Soi 7 & Soi 8 using Google Maps

and saw nothing wrong about street names.

  6. Gave up on TOT long ago, 3BB is the way to go.

I have 3BB for 5 years and was happy with it :-)

but not so good last 3 months (slow, no PPP, disconnections,...) :-(

They came 3 times to fix the problem,

but each time the problem came back after 1 or 2 weeks.

  7. Go into convenience shop 7/11 , Family Mart and see what "Snacks" they have in there are not either loaded with cheap starchy carbs or sugar , there is pretty much nothing

The problem IMHO is not what these "Snasks" are made of (sugar, carbs,...) but "Snacks" themselves.

Why would someone have to buy such things ?

Learn back people to not eat between main meals and people will become far healthier smile.png

  8. Don't believe the hype buddy most "Sugar Free" and low sugar drinks contain Fructose

They are not "sugar free" if they content fructose! Fructose is a sugar.

Coke Zero by example does not content sugar (or so few) and less than 1 calorie (kcal) per can smile.png

Pepsi Max is not much different. You will not become fat because of them wink.png

  9. The drug tests that are required "in many countries" as a condition of employment

are typically a condition set by the prospective employer, not by the government.

Depends certainly of these "many countries"...

For all European countries by example, the employer can ask for such a drug-test

only if drug usage could become dangerous for employees or customers of the company.

So for most of jobs - by far - employers can't require a drug-test for employment.

  10. Not a bad idea to be fair ,

The consumption of sugary drinks is s big factor in childhood obesity

Excuse me, but where did they talk about "sugar"?... Nowhere!

The article is about "non-alcoholic beverages"

and so it includes all sugar-free beverages too, like Coke Zero, Coke Light, Pepsi Max,...

Taxing sugar-free beverages will not decrease consumption of sugary drinks sad.png

  11. The way it was explained to me was, that if you have the stapled paper in your passport

and it has a barcode on it, then you only need to hand in your passport with that paper,

and they just scan the barcode.

Right, theatrically, but as I said before

it supposes that the whole system (computer, printer, officer, ...) is operational at that moment

and you can't know that before you arrive at the Report desk.

  12. So nobody can confirm that IF they have already entered your data and you have the large paper form in your passport (more than the old small receipt) that you don't even need to fill out the form (no copies either of course)? I was told clearly no more filling out forms ... and I still don't believe it.

I can say it worked like that twice for me. Nothing to do except signing the computer form,

but last time the printer was out of order, so they switched back to the old system

and asked me for the usual copies... so better to always have them wink.png

  13. I started private lessons last year and I could read and write within 10 days, /.../

but please don't find it unbelievable when others do, maybe even replace your disbelief with a well done, as credit where credit is due ?

    Hi CaitlinHappyMeal,

About the "unbelievable" part you should maybe read again the post #2 who started this sub-discussion.

It was not only be able to "read and write" after 3 months (that is not "unbelievable" if you accept to barely understand half of what your read wink.png)

but it was about, after only 3 months, being "fluent in reading and writing" !

As said before there is a huge difference. Being "fluent" required to know a lot of vocabulary, expressions, grammatical rules, ... and - IMHO - required years of practice and/or language-immersion for any language for nearly all of us.
