  1. It's too late for the OP but in case anyone else is looking I just saw the S5 at 15,088 Baht at the new Homepro on Sukhumvit.

There is a BigC promotion this weekend (finishes in a few hours!) that give you a 1'500 baht reduction on IT products over 12'000 baht. This promotion is available for the 16'400 baht S5 smile.png

(Saw it today at BigC Xtra Pattaya Klang)

  2. We all suffer from a bad ping to the US // The fastest you'll get is around 230 - 240 ms, which is the time it takes a signal to travel through cabling to the US and back... // Even though European servers are closer, pings to there are usually worse.

USA is a large country and ping is very irregular depending on where in USA is the server. I would say 230-300 ms for ping

For me Europe is always a little bit faster. I would say 210-240 ms

Edit: Right now I get 219 & 223 on 2 servers in France, and 216 ms on ping.ovh.net

I am at Pattaya with the 3BB 15MB package

You can probably win 10 or 20 ms in each case if you test from Bangkok ??

  3. Was in tescos yesterday (Thepperset road, Pattaya) and they had a special price of 16400 for the S5

I just come back from BigC Extra (Central Rd) and the S5 price is 16'400 baht there too.

It's a Samsung promotion on several phones until December 31

  4. There's no such thing as price competition in Thailand.

In Tukcom, you can't be sure of what you're getting.

I disagree here. Tukcom is not *one* shop but a building grouping many of them.

If you buy your expensive phone from a 3 square meter "shop" that also sell cheap copies, of course you take a big risk!

But there are at least 3 bigger shops inside Tukcom who are official Samsung resellers and you will not have any problem with these ones smile.png

Prices are probably very similar to the prices in all other Pattaya's official reseller shops though...

  5. ya all live in Thailand and expect every thing for free.

go back to your home country and pay for some off the services there and see how much it is.

    We don't expect them free

but would like them to add this Certificate on the list of prices of Immigration services.

The problem for me is not the amount paid,

but the fact they don't give us a receipt for this "fee".

  6. Most Thais pay a whopping 30 Baht here.

I don't think so. Most Thai in Pattaya are more or less "temporary workers" here.

They come from their village to find work here but never made the papers to register here,

so they cannot get advantage of their "30 baht card" that works only in the registration area.

  7. Hi. My today experience to add fuel to the fire wink.png

At about noon I took a bahtbus on 2nd Rd just before South Rd, to go Soi 4 (International Hospital)

Inside were 3 (Russian?) people coming from the direction of Jomtien

The bahtbus get 2 other people before stopping at Central Beach Festival...

Then the driver went out see us and talked to the 3 Russians, in broken English with large gestures:

"stop here 10 baht. Continue 20 baht. Ok mai ?". Not sure what they understood but they decided to stop here.

The driver then asked the 3 of us where we go: I said Soi 4, the 2 others Big C. He said "ok" and drive.

I stopped at Soi 4 and paid 10 baht as usual.

Not the first time I heard about that, but the first time it happen to me.

Central Beach Festival is becoming the reference point for taxis coming from Jomtien,

and - sorry Jingthing - the limit for the 10 baht trips...

  8. 3 bottles of Singha lite is legal in just about every country in the world for driving, but thanks for your concern

    That's fully wrong!

With 3 Singha Light you are over the limit in Thailand and many (most?) other countries !

3 bottles of Singha at 3.5% alcohol

    => 3 * 0.33 l * 0.035 ~> 35 ml of alcohol

    Alcohol density 0.79 ~> 27 g of alcohol

    => BAC about 27 x [0.020 - 0.25] = 0.54 to 0.67, depending of body mass and other physical parameters

The BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration) Limit in Thailand is 0.5 : You are over already !

Most European countries have this same 0.5 limit, or even less.

Here is a link with world limits: http://www.icap.org/table/BACLimitsWorldwide

So please stop driving after 3 Singha Light 1zgarz5.gif

and stop affirming such false statements without checking them before wink.png

  9. It seems to me from some of the feedback above that Pattaya Memorial Hospital

which is just off Soi Buakhaow, isn't going to be out of business any time soon.

Prices in Memorial Hospital rose a lot too in last 2-3 years.

Since all signs inside are in Russian too, prices have gone up significantly

and there are now all kind of "services" added on your bill, making it even higher sad.png

  10. Hi. It's about 3 months that GrabTaxi is available in Pattaya.

Several topics already here about them in Pattaya

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/762361-grabtaxi-service-available-in-pattaya/

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/760478-grabtaxis-pattaya-launch-ocean-marina-yacht-club-wednesday-17th-september-2014/

    ...

Reports are that prices are very good and, even with the 40 baht surcharge, very far of the no-use-taximeterer taxi's prices.

Problem for very short distances: it happens a lot that no driver is interested and nobody reply to your request.

  11. "...and they apply bad dual-pricing against farangs"

And what countries offer government subsidized health care to foreigners at the same prices as to citizens of that country?

More ridiculous farang nanny state sense of entitlement.

Who talked about "subsidized health" ? Thai have the "30 baht/day scheme". It's something different. Here a Thai not registered in Pattaya (or even not registered at allo anywhere) will pay less than you for the same consultation/treatment.

And "what countries?": mine by example: France. You will not pay a different price at a doctor or hospital just because you are French. You will have to show proof of an health insurance (private or of state) to pay less, and foreigners can do the same (at least for main well known insurances). Also foreigners in France are entitled to free emergency care if hospitalization is required.

I think its similar in many European countries.

  12. I have seen several examples of police stopping falangs on bikes (for no reason) in the last two weeks and //

Why would they need a reason to stop you ?

I find this kind of comment rather strange, but as several people here made a similar one I would think that maybe in some countries it's something Police can't do ? In Thailand and most countries, they can.

I come from France where Police can "controls" you when they want, where they want. They can stop you in car or bike and check for papers (DL, Insurance,...) or even stop you when you walk in the street and check for your (mandatory) ID card. In 99.99% of case it's just a 1 minute polite control and very similar to what they do in Thailand. I see nothing wrong in that.

  13. hi folks i just been reading about police harassment in bkk so i decided to cancel a 4 day shopping trip there,

just wondered if the same thing is happening in pattaya, i live in the middle of nowhere and need a break so i thought about pattaya instead.

No problem with that in Pattaya. A few police controls

    - and yes more frequently in December and January because a lot of more people during high season -

but nothing I would call harassment.

Happened to me a few times to be controlled:

they look at your documents and "thank you sir", and you can go. Takes probably less than 1 minute.

A good way IMHO to reduced the number of stupid drivers who drive without a valid license and/or insurance,

with all the consequences it brings when they cause an accident...

  14. Hi. I doubt you get many answers with such a topic title!

I live in Pattaya for years but never heard about any "Soi Berkow"... wink.png

I suppose you mean "Soi Buakhao" (most common spelling for ซอยบัวขาว)

and the name of this hospital is "Pattaya City Hospital" (โรงพยาบาลเมืองพัทยา)

    IMG_20130530_085021.jpg

I used it in April while it was still in "test mode": a small emergency: good work and very cheap smile.png

What I heard though is that since it officially/fully opened,

prices have gone up a lot and they apply bad dual-pricing against farangs... sad.png

  15. Where is the service center in Pattaya?

    He just told you wink.png

    "Central", aka "Central Beach Festival"

at underground floor, sea side, near McDo

PS: How can SMS you *receive* cost you money ??

  16. Certainly possible. 50 is too young for a retirement age. 55 or 60 could happen soon.

If that is the case, just think of the consequences !!

Not a real problem. Immigration probably would grandfather the old rule for those who already got extensions for reason of retirement but would now be under the new minimum age. smile.png

If Immigration continue to find guys working illegally on "retirement extension", surely it could be logic for them to re-increase this minimum age.
