  1. Raids in the beach area have been going on for months now. I don't think they will end. What the point is, I don't know. Maybe it's to send a lesson to all the clubs and bars that they're living on borrowed time and there will come a time when Pattaya's current setup will have to change, that the entertainment segment will have to move/hide or shrink or (doubtful) disappear.

The beach?? Do you know about Pattaya? about 3rd Road?

There is about 1.5km (or 1 mi) between M Club and the beach wink.png

  2. Hi. I don't know what it was, but at about 11am there was a long column of white smoke in the "far Jomtien seen from Pattaya South Road". Not long before I saw this smoke, I heard many fire truck sirens going towards Jomtien. So yes I think something rather big burned and this explosion could be the reason...?

  3. I just asked you a simple question, where can I buy a condo for 400K and rent it out for 4K per Month.

georgegeorgia talked about "return", not "rent". You need to rent more than 4k to get this 4k return.

(condo fees, insurance, re-painting, repairing, furniture's that don't last forever, ...)

  4. rubbish. Vientienne has internet.

??? Who said there was no Internet in Vientiane ?

What I said is that there are many "online works" you can't do with just a notepad or notebook, and/or that you can only do at your desk, in your home or office, with a descent work configuration (multi-screens, multi-computers, ...)

BTW if there is of course Internet available at Vientiane, it's quality is not so good and reliable. Just ask online poker players what they think about it... wink.png

  5. Nonsense.

For many, the best aspect of online working is the ability to make your work fit around your life not the other way round

Having a laptop, tablet or even a smartphone means you're never really out of the office unless you want to be.

    Nonsense? Certainly not.

"online working" covers a lot of very different kinds of work. If your work consists in coding sites with very complex architecture by example, there is no way you can work with just a laptop, and there is no way you can concentrate enough during such trip to make this kind of work. From a development point of view, they are lost days, and as "time is money"...

  6. The cost of staying on double entry tourist visa is perhaps 7,000 - 17,000 Bt an year, depending on location. Compare to the "bargain" of 100,000 an year, paid in full for 5 years, not refundable.

The cost of the Tourist Visa option is far more than that in this case. You forgot the 2 or 3 days where he cannot work because of his visarun to Vientiane or some other place abroad. These are lost days for his work/business. And he has at least to make 2 or 3 visaruns a year.

  7. Most owners think they can sell with a small profit in todays market,

but they still don't understand how bad the financial situation is in EU now.

Hum... That may be true for owners who bought very recently, or on projects just finished, but those who bought a few years back still make a nice profit when they sold now. smile.png

And about the low value of the euro, that makes my condo value yet 1/3 higher in euros because of the currency value change. Good if I had to return to my country now...

I begin to hear/read about a few discounted prices on condos, but all are for new or unfinished projects. Older condos prices don't seem to be impacted... until today?

  8. Show me an example of this been reported in media.

I have never heard of any foreigners been in trouble just because an officer has been busted .

When you have a legal stamp in the passport they can't just take it away from you.

You didn't read carefully enough. Several cases reported on this TV forum. I remember a guy from my country who had a restaurant making good business near Bangkok. As he had few time he always let his lawyer manage everything about passport and immigration. As he was once leaving the country for holidays, he was taken in a room apart at the airport control and informed that his extension had been cancelled some months ago. He had no idea something was wrong with his stamps. They put him in prison not for overstay, but for use of illegal stamps/documents. He stayed there several weeks! before friends and family managed to get him out. It was such a bad experience that he sold everything and returned his country. It was probably 3 or 4 years ago already and reported in newspapers and even TV at this time.

  9. In singapore the going rate is about SGD 5 per page....125 baht...in Malaysia its even less....this is yet another example of how obscenely expensive Thailand has become....all a notary has to do is stamp a piece of paper....its that easy

In every country you will find some notary office a lot of more expensive than average.

    I used several time the Notary Public office on Thappraya, just after Grand Caribbean;

I paid 500 baht to get a notarize copy of small documents (5-8 pages) with an apostille.

I don't call that "obscenely expensive"

  10. Hi. I understand the problem for wheelchairs & scooters, but I may understand why they closed it: it was very dangerous! Numerous of motorbikes riding South on the fast line who brake suddenly very strongly to take this small gap and enter in Soi 5.

I already saw cars having to make a desperate avoidance manoeuvre to avoid them, very dangerous for cars or bike on the middle line. sad.png

Not sure what can be done to let you go through but forbid motorbikes ?

  11. Probably take 15 mins in samut prakan.

If you have to live in an ex pat hotspot then this is what you have to put up with.

Sorry, but I don't see the relation between expats and this delay ??

Most of time (let say 10 months per year) it's very fast at Jomtiem (Pattaya) Immigration. smile.png

The problem is mainly mid-December to mi-February with many real family tourists who need an extension. Going there a Monday or Friday during these 2 months is a very bad idea...

  12. If all you want to do is feed the fish take him to Wat Yansangwararam which lies on a lake where you can feed the fish. There are numerous vendors on the road leading to the entrance of the Wat complex that sell fish food and fish for that matter (the fish are for offering). ...

I do like this place. Nice area for quiet long walks smile.png

  13. The new 3bb brand name router (made by Huawei) supports 802.11n.

    Right.

I just come back for BigC Xtra and took the opportunity to ask to the 3BB office inside.

The modem they showed me is indeed a Huawei, ref. HG531. They sell this one for 780 baht

They have a better but more expensive one too but they didn't had one in stock and didn't know what model exactly ??

I just notice that someone already post these pics on TV about this modem : wink.png

  14. // I stand by what i said 999 baht for a crap 802.11g modem/router for that amount you could buy a decent 802.11n modem/router.

I do not know if they even have gigabit ports on the one they supply, my guess would be not //

I come back on this point. Where did you see that 3BB routers are 801.11g "only" ?

Ok, I have a 801.11g router wink.png ... but mine is 5 years old and not many 11g to be found at that time...

Now I would like to know what modem-wifi-router you get nowadays from 3BB ?

I saw that someone who subscribed in 2014 got a ZyXEL router.

I am not 100% sure about the model, but I it looks like this one : http://www.zyxel.com/products_services/nbg_418n.shtml?t=p smile.png

I would not be surprised at all to learn that all new routers that 3BB provide are 801.11n smile.png

  15. The 3bb supplied adsl modems are crap and only offer wi fi 802.11g.

    I went to Powerbuy and bought a 802.11n adsl+2 modem/ router for about 800baht.

Don't know what allow you to call them "crap" ??

    3BB provided me a Billion BiPac 5200g R4 when I subscribed.

This router is now 5 years old but manage perfectly the 15-16 Mbps my connection offers smile.png

I don't really see how not having the 802.11n could be a problem,

at least for me with Internet at no more than 17 Mbps

and no device able to manage a more than 54 Mbps transmission...

  16. How about this one. Did they redesign Jomtien bay overnight or am I missing something.

Hi. I am not sure what you mean ?? The first pic is rather close to reality.

They didn't remove many condos or building as many other promoters do.

Even the recent projects on the right at the exit of the river are on the pic.

The biggest light on these pics is... the crystal blue color of the water ! wink.png

On problem is that this area is currently a poor fishermen harbour

and this river a shelter for their small boats... I doubt they will move soon.

Other problem may be the big boat on the left of the second pic.

These are vere shallow water, with lot of sand. He couldn't enter this river. wink.png

  17. Thailand is a common destination for oil field workers. Immigration hasn't figured that out?

I could agree, but how is an Immigration Officer supposed to recognize a "oil worker"

from a guy who lives 1 month Thailand, 1 month Cambodia, 1 month Thailand, ... ?

"About 1 month in every 2 months" is not enough to know how they live and work.

  18. Samsung phones are region locked when purchased. If they are used to make 5 minutes of calls in the region where bought then the lock goes away. It is done to try to stop grey market sales.

Thanks. I could understand that. Logical.

By the way, when you buy a Samsung mobile in Europa, you don't get warranty in Thailand and vice versa.

Yes most phone sold in Thailand have a Thailand only warranty,

but I doubt a lot about the "and vice versa"...

AFAIK phones from Samsung, LG, Apple,... sold in France - by example - have a worldwide warranty. smile.png

  19. The box

    <image>

I am very surprised about that "European SIM card only" ??

I have many friends who came see me in Thailand with their phone from France.

Probably 1/3 or 1/2 of them had a SAMSUNG phone

and never any of them had a problem to use Thailand SIM cards, usually 12Call.

Is it something new? or something specific to Norway?
