  1. When we built our house, I insisted on "toe kicks" on every cabinet in kitchen and baths.

Wife insisted on sinks as close to front of counters as feasible.

Heights are 90 cm which includes 2 cm granite. Comfortable for both of us, even though she is short.

If you don't need the view, you could tape some styrofoam sheets to the inside.  Otherwise, heavy drapes is the best option.

Sorry, but expanded polystyrene sheets glued to the inside of the glass will be virtually useless as a sound barrier. Pretty much ditto for heavy fabric drapes.

Properly made good quality sliding doors are fine for excluding noise. But good luck trying to find any proper ones here at any sort of sensible price. The cheap local frames as fitted to nearly all condo units here are absolute crap, barely thicker than a tin can and with no proper padding in the runners and the junctions. And single-glazed with the thinnest glass available.

I knew someone with a traffic noise problem here and he had a completely independent second layer of sliding doors fitted about 10cm in front of the existing ones. Whilst it was a bit of a pain to open both in order to get to the balcony in the morning he found that the noise reduction at night was very good and that he only needed to close the second layer whilst sleeping.

The price was literally 10 times less than thick imported replacements would have cost and they were made in a couple of days and fitted in just a few hours.

Good post .. a 60db wall/door ALONE will attenuate only about 6-8 db due to flanking sound.

  4. I know you are talking about demand heaters, but:

On our build about 5 years ago I opted for a wall mounted (outside on terrace) Siebel Eltron. It makes ALL the hot water I need for my showers (wife seldom uses).

One reason I went this route is because of the water+electricity mix in an indoor appliance.

Power bill for 200 sqm house with 2 - 26K BTU A/C, outside lights, water pump, washer, dryer, big fridge,  etc., etc. seldom exceeds Bt 3,000.

Note: 2 A/C, dryer, big fridge are inverters.

  5. The Russia Investigation Timeline

    November 2013

The Miss Universe pageant is held in Moscow. "The event's location was secured thanks to licensing fees of nearly $20 million paid by a Moscow real estate development firm called the Crocus Group. Its president is a man named Aras Agalarov," the Washington Post reported.

Not sure any of you Trump haters actually read the charges filed against these people, but I think you are getting your hopes of Trumps demise up way to high.

It is interesting how crooks run together no matter their political affiliation. Podesta funding Manafort, did not see that coming.

Interesting twist that I am sue crooked Hillary is not real comfortable with, especially after getting caught funding $12 million for the BS Trump dossier.

This is about the USA and Trump -- trying to raise some HRC issues will have no effect on the investigation or its outcome.

First of all, I am not a "His".

Second,  over 20 yrs working for the DOD as a civilian contractor.

Six years assigned to the Pentagon.

Married to a retired Army Officer

I am pretty sure my sources would pass muster.

Your "sources" might but I severely doubt your attitude would.

If you give me your Pentagon superior's contact, I'll be happy to send him/her copies of your posts and maybe we'll find out?

It must be tragic not knowing how to read. I truly feel sorrier for you.

Yes it is, as you should know; having needed to apologize for your own misquotes on several posts.

Yes you said your husband (rather than being on active duty) is a life member of both the VFW and American Legion .. which, in hindsight, makes me feel sorrier for him; especially if any of the members who know him read your post and associate it with him.

  9. You may find that water wells in that area are few and far between. We bought a place in Lamluek (about 10  km south of the zoo turnoff) several years back and everyone told us the same thing .. cannot get water ..

One of our Thai neighbors had 4 "silos", 10 m above ground and said to be 40m deep, which he filled annually from rainfall collection.

You seem to be the one confused. The OP was talking about a "Visa" bank card also know as a credit card.  Just because you have Visa Logo on your ATM card does not make it a credit card here. It's what is in your account that matters in that case.  Credit cards are available but for Thais only. My wife has one and they will not give me one (no loss here, I really don't want one) because I'm a foreigner. It is also up the Bank to decide who gets a credit card.

I have a Bangkok Bank Credit Card, just renewed this month for 5 more years.  Got it first back 15 years ago. Bt 150k limit.

Seems as if any number of folks in this topic have mentally substituted "are required to"...

To be in Vietnam in 1961, you would have had to be in what is now the Special Forces. (Green Berets as they are called now.)There were 400 assigned to the area under the guidance of the CIA. You would have had to be in an advisory position only. If you had proof of that, I can see no reason for you to be denied.

For your second point. A Mitigate does analysis on possible civilian casualties in a time of confick and makes recommendations on how to minimize them.

Believe me, they are working overtime with this NK situation.

I was not in Vietnam in '61 .. never claimed I was.  Please learn to read.  I was there from late '64 to mid '65.

Yes, SF then  and SF now.  The CIA had nothing to do with our camp at Plei Me. Yes they called us advisors .. in camp they called me "Doc".

I am a life member of the VFW (Udorn Post) as well as a life member of the SF Association (Bangkok).

Now, you can take your 'xpert' opinion about my previous post and insert it where the sun never shines.

I'm calling BS on this one.. I was assigned as a civilian mitigate for the U.S. Army at a

base in Texas.  You really don't want to go there unless you have all your ducks in a row.

    Eligibility Information

If you have served federal active duty in the United States Armed Forces during any of the war eras listed below, and have been honorably discharged or are still serving -- you are eligible for membership in The American Legion!

*AUGUST 2, 1990 TO TODAY (PERSIAN GULF/ WAR ON TERRORISM)
    DECEMBER 20, 1989 TO JANUARY 31, 1990 (OPERATION JUST CAUSE - PANAMA)
    AUGUST 24, 1982 TO JULY 31, 1984 (LEBANON/GRENADA)
    FEBRUARY 28, 1961 TO MAY 7, 1975 (VIETNAM)
    JUNE 25, 1950 TO JANUARY 31, 1955 (KOREA)
DECEMBER 7, 1941 TO DECEMBER 31, 1946 (WORLD WAR II)
    APRIL 6, 1917 TO NOVEMBER 11, 1918 (WORLD WAR I)

*Because eligibility dates remain open, all members of the U.S. Armed Forces are eligible to join The American Legion at this time, until the date of the end of hostilities as determined by the government of the United States.

U.S. Merchant Marine eligible only from December 7, 1941 to December 31, 1946 (WWII).

You are free to call my post anything you feel like.  I was there in Okinawa (1st SF Group) in late '65, after serving a 6 month TDY tour in 'Nam, and the American Legion denied membership to me.

I have no idea when that eligibility criteria you show was established.

Further, I have no idea what a "civilian mitigate" is. BTW, where do I not want to go? Is it more dangerous that the Central Highlands was?
