Instead of continuing to sit in a hard chair at a university, facing the front of a room, pretending I was interested in what the teacher was teaching, I left HS and went traveling and working and getting knocked around in the school of hard knocks.

So, you left HS (High School?) before you dropped out of "a university"  so you could get knocked around?

    Helluva career path!

You have to be working with a work permit and paying taxes for 3 years to apply for permanent residency or citizenship.

Is this a recent change? When i was looking into getting a residence permit (no such thing a "permanent" in that category) about 10 years back, there was no mention of a work permit.  And my friend was a Major General and Saan Plu.

    Is this outdated? http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/doc/residence/quota_detail_en.pdf

I watched the first part of the inquiry - it was long and drawn out.   No surprise, there were two factions among the inquisitors:  There were the Republicans (chairman and his majority of committee members, all old white men) who only cared about leaks.

The other side were Democrats (minority of members, women, blacks, whites) who were concerned about finding out who broke laws.

Dude, once again we read your "prejudice" toward old white men.

What is your problem with "owm" I'm an old white man. You are an old white man. A great many TV members are in that same demographic.

Sounds like you are accusing us of breaking laws. Grow up!

You never drive yourself these distances , I guess ?

I never did rely on the driving skills of any asian driver, so I always rented a car. First thing I did when emigrate to Thailand, I bought a pickup. Actually, I bought it already before I landed in BKK.

When I feel tired (not even sleepy), I take a break of 10 minutes, drinking some Iced cappucino and walking around.  I know driving around yourself in a car can be exciting, but if you are prepared (using google maps as navigator) as well as you anticipate, drive carefully and watch for unusual signs on the road before you, everything should go ok.

I have driven myself the length and breadth of LOS solo,  (okay, not MHS as I hate curvy roads) -- and I agree completely.  Mostly I traveled by day, only a few times at night when well rested.

The US and S. Korea have caused this by their continuous provocation. They just won't stop threatening N. Korea, so of course N. Korea builds up defensive weapons. They not out to invade anyone or build an empire - their leaders just want to survive and they know S. Korea and the US are itching to obliterate them.

How can you possibly know what Kim wants?

How can you possibly know the military plans of S.K. and the U.S.?

Do you and the neighbor kids run around in the woods with toy guns much?

Good points.  Of course it's a sticky situation.  There are no easy solutions.  Probably the best is to be reasonably friendly with N.Korea (cultural, sports, biz, tourist exchanges) while conversing.

Concurrently, the US and all other nuke countries should be actively trying to lower the # of nukes worldwide.  Not easy at all, but sometimes the most worthwhile goals are difficult to achieve.

I proposed earlier:  Each nuke country could be encouraged to lower their arsenal by 50% each year for the next 8 years.  At the 8 year mark, all remaining nukes - destroyed.  Any country/entity not complying would be sanctioned heavily.

I would hope for better solutions than many of the ill-conceived "ideas" encouraged here on TV.

I think one big issue Boomerangutang is that N Korea has a standing army alone of over 4 million and roughly 2 million are stationed along the S Korean border. Nukes cannot be used to hit along the S Korea border and by the time the first launches of conventional weapons occur those 2 million will be moving like ants across into S Korea with whatever mayhem may follow.

Spot on, AA.  Was involved in one of those "strategic game" operations in'65. The ROK's are good soldiers, but Seoul is very near the DMZ.  A war would be a disaster for a people who have had a long brutal one about 70 years ago.

Yes Americans are when it comes to shedding blood!  Look at the record in the first and second world wars, not to mention Viet Nam, Afganistan and the gulf wars!  A TOTAL reliance on technology, and when the body bags started coming home total protest....  Per population and comitment well work it out,

Yep I know guys that have fought with them, and they too have had NOTHING but praise for the guys on the ground, but their reliance on their so called technology and pulling other smaller less wealthy nations into the fray... I am not so sure ....

Well, I suppose your handle is half right. :post-4641-1156693976:

How many tens of thousands of dead and wounded does it take to avoid being called "chicken"? Who do you think saved Australia from the Japanese in WWII?

"A TOTAL reliance on technology .."

Odd! Didn't seem do hi-tech when I was humping the hills on 14 day "excursions" in the Central Highlands ci. '64.

I met a number of good Aussies in 'Nam, especially a Caribou pilot who flew supplies into our camp.  They deserve a classier and more honest spokesman than you.

So I will end this with a well deserved salute. .!..

Trump's greatest achievement in his first 84 days is continuing to stifle investigations into his possible-treasonous activities.

Trump's military strategy is starting to shape up, and here's what it looks like:

A>>>   Without any prior diplomatic maneuverings, just knee jerk to unleash massive ballistic force by un-manned means.

    B>>>  zero follow-up

    C>>>  rinse and repeat

All the while, talk little with allies and less with adversaries.  Have no care about expenditures.  $10 million or $10 billion in bombs, ....doesn't matter.  What matters most is the following:

    >>>>   look tough

    >>>>   divert from investigations

    >>>>   don't release tax info

    >>>>   continue to demonize (and fire, if possible) any person or entity who questions your illegal domestic activities

    >>>>   continue to blame Obama, HRC, Pelosi, and anyone else for your own failings.

I shouldn't think an airline is legally or morally obliged to offer out-of-proportion compensations, or else passengers will start holding an airline to ransom in such cases, simply by childishly refusing to get off.

The amount offered seems more than fair to me - I would have taken it, especially I'd been randomly selected to get off.

This chap should simply have got off and quit whining. When he refused to budge, security was obviously told to remove the man. When he still refused to budge - well, you don't mess with security in the US - they physically ejected him. Quite right.

The social justice warriors have latched onto the case and are screaming outrage as usual, calling for law cases and sackings. They need objectivity and perspective.

This gets my vote for the dumbest post in this thread.

It doesn't bode well for US military might, if they launch 59 state-of-the-art cruise missiles costing around $100 million altogether, and don't do much damage.

Usually, when a country launches military strikes, it's also showcasing its weapons.  It happened during the Falkland's battles (Brit Harriers vs French Mirages) and in nearly every other war.

If $100 million worth of Tomahawks can't even disable a runway at an air field..........

With $100 million, 2,500 homes could be built at $40k each, or 40,000 libraries in Africa.   $100 million for a few potholes in a Syrian airfield?  Oh, and possibly a few out-dated Syrian jets destroyed, all of which will be replaced by state-of-the-art Russian fighter jets.

Or -- they could have bought about 40,000,000 bottles of Chang for the expats on TV. -- Duh!

Again, not true.  What about Jordan and Morocco's leaders?  What about the efforts (failed) in Egypt?  Saudi Arabia has been cracking down.  Etc, etc, etc.  Though some are fostering terrorists, especially Iran.  And SA is far from perfect.  It's a mess.

I definitely don't think a war with Russia is a good idea.  Hopefully, that will never come to be.  But Russia is stirring things up all over.  Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Chechnya, Syria, etc.  Syria being the worst and the Western world is condemning Russia for their involvement.  For good reasons.

    For advanced :

Was the deadly chemical composition used in Idlib (1) a liquid substance or (2) a solid explosive admixture ?

If liquid, it should be sprayed by helicopters.

If solid explosive admixture (powder) it should be dropped in a shell with a few hundreds of dispersing small bomblets.

If used by aircraft, the little bomblets couldn't cause the huge crater impacts seen on the many video footages circulating on the internet.

The main shells don't vanish and the little bomblets leave some metal material on the spot.

I'm actually waiting to see any of these corroborative evidence sooner or later. And in the worst case, never.

Seriously? Liquid chemical agent sprayed by helicopters? Have you ever noticed the "donut" shaped rotor wash that 'choppers create? Might kill the entire crew.

     A drone might work.

I don't have the same circumstances but I'll put in my two baht. There are just me and my wife, no children. We pay no rent nor have any payments. I give my wife 30,000 baht per month. She pays all the household bills and utilities plus my Internet. She also buys all our clothes, She limits me to a carton of cigarettes every two weeks. She will NOT pay my bar bills.  She pays for benzine for her car and I pay for diesel for my truck. I do pay for the vehicle insurance and any big ticket items such as TV's and furniture.

I especially like you wife's "shopping limits and exclusions".

Well, there is a security issue, I believe.  Should all oval office regulars require a top-secret security clearance?  Those take time -- unless papa issued it himself.

I had a top-secret clearance in the army many moons ago.  AIR it took many months.

The cause of the crash was still under investigation, said Sergeant Conrad Hein, a Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman

These people in Texas know nothing - it was the wet road combined with brake problems that cause the accident

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas (KWTX) Jack Dillon Young, 20, of Leakey, who was driving the pickup truck that collided with a Texas church bus, killing 13 of the 14 church members aboard, told a witness he was texting behind the wheel before the crash.

    (KABB-MGN photo/file)

Witness Jody Kuchler, 55, of Leakey told The Associated Press that he spoke to Young while Young was still pinned in the wreckage of the pickup.

He said Young repeatedly apologized and acknowledged he had been texting while driving.

Kuchler was driving behind the truck and said it was being driven erratically before to the collision on the rural two-lane road.

Kuchler says he told the driver, "Son, do you know what you just did?"

He says the driver responded by repeatedly apologizing.

“He said, ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I was texting on my phone,’” Kuchler was quoted as saying.

  18. Part of what gets me about that stupid wall plan is the funding. Robbing important security programs to pay for campaign promise .. that I would bet will provide far less security than the programs he is gutting.

"The Trump administration, searching for money to build the president’s planned multibillion-dollar border wall and crack down on illegal immigration, is weighing significant cuts to the Coast Guard, the Transportation Security Administration and other agencies focused on national security threats, according to a draft plan."

I've thought some more about this case.  It troubles me.  I can see how the first intruder got shot with deadly force.  Justified.   Perhaps also the second was justified, who was also caught within the house.   However, the 3rd young man was shot outside.  Very likely he was running away, cornered, and/or pleading for his life with his hands raised.  In a military situation, a combatant who puts his hands up is supposed to be taken into custody, not shot dead.  Granted, this was not strictly a military scenario, but was similar, in that there were combatants.     If it proves true that the 3rd young man (and possibly also the 2nd) had his/their hands in the air pleading for mercy, .....AND WERE SHOT DEAD,  I think the shooter should be punished - perhaps with a modest fine (suggest $1000) and/or some months in jail.   The charge:  excessive force.

I've thought about this post .. it doesn't trouble me, just looks like a "trolling for post count" post.

Were you actually in the military? Combatants?  How about thugs. And your scenario jumping from "perhaps" to "very likely" to "proves".

    Sounding a lot like Trump.
