  1. I have an Apple TV 4 and love it. True many apps are restricted but many are not as well. Some unrestricted apps: Apple Music, Sky News, CBS News, Al Jazeera, many of the tech news / video, Netflix, SomaFM and I don't think any games are restricted.

BTW, Channel 7 here in TH even has their own app. Can play shows, or live stream. I expect there will be some apps playing all Thai channels soon enough (just like on iPhone).

I also use the Infuse app to play stuff directly from a HD connected via SMB (over Wifi). Get a VPN and opens things up even further.

  2. Tunein is ok. Really mixed bag as far as quality. Some statIons stream at 96k, some 128 and some 192. Really hard to find stations streaming over 192.... Most at 128 which doesn't sound that great.

I prefer the paid services (like Apple Music) at 256k streaming. You can also get Pandora with no problem with a VPN or proxy. I recommend EVERY expat to have a VPN service in this environment.

  3. Most of the attempted infections I see are scripts embedded in PDF files.

Yeah ok it can run JavaScript (IF an older reader that auto-runs scripts) to either try and download or drop some executable into system files. This is pretty much completely mitigated on OSX if the reader is properly sandboxed (most are including Adobes and OSX built in Preview). Or if running latest version of "rootless" OSX which shouldn't allow any shenanigans with system files.

  4. You guys had some bad luck. I had zero problems with playlists and zero problems playing things. The only issues I had, Apple kinda "took" some of my own music and labeled it as downloaded Apple Music. Not much, like a dozen songs or so. I just deleted and re-added and rescanned and no problem. A bug... But fairly minor and easy to fix.

  5. As pretty much every know security professional has submitted an opinion, as several past directors of intelligence agencies and as the US Joint Chiefs of Staff all disagree with you and the FBI and state this is a terrible idea.... I'll go with the overwhelming authority and people in the know on the issue.

  6. Re-routing, using a VPN for example, through Europe should minimise issues for anyone experiencing them in the first place. I haven't noticed much myself to be honest.

Eerrmmm, no; a vpn won't change your physical location, it's not a TARDIS.

No but it can change the route. Say for example on Fiber cables going through India to Europe rather than the cable through Hong Kong. Routes get overloaded. Using a VPN can help avoid overloaded / problem routes.

  7. OpenVPN app is configurable for any OpenVPN and is very stable and will remain "on" despite closing the app. iOS makes accommodations for VPN. Alternatively you can use a VPN that utilizes IPSec or L2TP or PPTP all of which have built in support in iOS.

  8. In the past, to use a VPN on your computer, you needed to download and install "client" software. But now, on current Macintosh OSX, the "client" software is built in. Access: > Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network. The configuration details will be specified by the VPN service you use.

Does the native OSX client work with self installed OpenVPN servers? So far I have been using Tunnelblick as an VPN client.

    No

PPTP, IPSec and L2TP only. Need an app for OpenVPN.
