  1. What is the problem if your bike is registered in another province? I am living in Samut Prakarn and my two previous bikes were registered in Rachaburi and Prachinburi. I never had a problem with that. I am not saying that it isn't a problem i would just like to know.

Yea fair call, for me personally I wanted my number plate in the name of the province I live and I believe when it comes to cars belonging to you if you have a permanent address the vehicle should be registered at that address.

A drivers license has to have a permanent address on it, because it belongs to you too.

Whether or not these things are enforced or not, dunno, TiT, problem ??? maybe when accident with insurance or something.

Me thinks no frangey in Thailand knows what problems there are and what is really going to happen until it happens.laugh.png

You are probably right. I was stopped several times and it was never a problem with the police, but as you say it could be a problem if you have an accident.

  3. hmm, much money for a bike with fake red plates and no book...do you really believe, you will receive a book in this life?

Ahh sorry, I read you don't care about illegal or not.

Hopefully, you will never get involved in a serious accident...

But maybe no problem...I am 100% sure, your insurance, if you have any, will be very happy to cover any damages,

    caused by your illegal bike..thumbsup.gif

    I seen a lot of HD's here in Japan, I wonder whywink.png

Maybe the same reason, as in Pattaya?

Annoying loud Harleys/Yammies/Honda Shadows/whatever, driven by aged Farangs as a "Penis enlargement"

    Having a bad day?

  4. In case you are clueless of the cost of ownership a big bike,

changing i tyre is no longer a couple of hundred baht like the scooter, it's 4000,

a broken starter is no longer a couple of hundred baht, it's 20.000

likewise for battery etc etc, chrome etc etc in eternity,

i strongly advice against if you can't even afford to buy it,

the cost of keeping it up is more than buying it,

+1. You can't afford it now. Even to think of buying it on credit implies you'll probably neglect the maintenance, somehow allow it to be stolen, or have an accident before you finish payments. Seen the mentality before.

    Buy cash.

What shit. Just because you buy on finance does not mean you neglect the machine or arrange to have it stolen. What a moronic statement.

Sent from my GT-P1010 using Thaivisa Connect Ap

Yeah, that is probably the most stupid statement i have heard this week.

  5. with a WP buying a cheap 80k baht new bike, you are better off talking to your bank. Most offer 0,99% a month, while dealers are in the 2-3% month range and do not like finance out of province residents or foreigners

in addition some dealer finance is baseball repos, while banks run a cleaner business

I don't know what is best, but i did not have a problem getting finance at the local Honda dealer.

  6. Personally I've always been quite happy with Red Baron. Professional, knowledgeable, courteous and prompt are the words I'd use to describe their staff.

probably would have spent 10-15K baht on jacket and pants

10-15k could buy you a jacket OR pants but wouldn't buy you both at Red Baron- perhaps they sized you up when you rode in on your budget CB'r' and knew you couldn't afford their merchandise? ;)

Having a bad day, or is your brain on holiday?

  7. Although I have my midlife crisis more than I like to have it, I am out of the Harley game. Uncomfortable, bad on bad roads, gasohol addicted...thousand reasons against a Harley. I owned 3 or 4 before, but I just don't need a show bike.

Haha you must be about the same age as me.

  8. Track day at Kaeng Krachan on Friday, racing on Saturday.

The ride to Hua Hin is terrible unless you know a better route than the 35...

Since when is Phuket "nice"? ;)

Some of the SSR boys are blasting up to Nan and Loei over the long holiday. You won't find many roads better than what you find up there and the night life might just surprise you :partytime2:

Thank you for the info, but i am more interested on a ride to the beach, so if anyone is going to phuket, pls let me or towards hua hin this friday. Thanks

    It's not that bad.

  9. Thailand is a bit different than countries in the West, here we take what we can-get – importing a Yamaha Raider S 1900 will cost you an incredible amount of money

Still comparing what the 2008 Yamaha Mid-Night-Star XV1900 costs at Redbaron I suggest honestly you look seriously into that option...

I saw one for sale at the Pattaya Bike Week. It was a 2008 and i think it was about 500.000 B. I also saw one for sale on mocyc.com, but do not know the price. I am sure it was a dealer in the Don Muang area.

Just checked mocyc.com. The Raider is still there. It is a 2008 model, they do not say anything about the price.

Have you got a link to that ?

    Could n't find anything on mocyc.com .

    Cheers !

    Yes, here it is www.soryon.com

  12. Funny that the OP makes such a big deal about 'sports bikes' having their exhaust changed when I challenge you to find more than a handful of cruisers (especially the quintessential cruiser-Harley) with stock exhausts...

I was one of your handfull. My Yamaha Dragstar XVS1100A was completely bone stock engine and exhaust wise. Lots of extra chrome bling, running lights, rear carrier, engine bling and rechromed spokes on the wheels. It didn't need noise in this case, as there was enough of a throb from the engine & exhaust. The front brakes were massive. Very stable under hard braking. You get used to hard braking in the middle east, believe me.

That's a lovely bike. Very rare I look at a cruiser for more than 2 seconds but I found myself staring at this one. If I lived out in the country I'd buy something like that for sure. Trouble is in Bangkok is that it's too big and heavy for Bangkok traffic. And then when I want to get away to the beach for the weekend it's not gonna be as fast (or as fun) to get there as a sports bike.

I can definitely see me owning one in the next few years though. I'll go for a Jap model like your Yam (or maybe a Kawi Vulcan) or go British and get a Triumph. Can't ever see myself on a Harley though.

Thanks JonnyF, it was also a shaft drive, so virtually maintenance free overall. It ran faultlessly (on carbs), no injection for this model. The only real pain on this model is that to get to the oil filter, you hand to take of the RH running board, controls and if I remember correctly the front cylinder exhaust. I just paid the dealer to do it. :)

I have one here in LOS. Bought it four years ago and never had a problem. As you say very reliable bike. Have changed the exhaust though
