  1. Anybody who's seen the fifth season of 24 is starting to wonder about this....

when they show that have an incentive to do something it creates a motive to have done it in the first place

CNS may seize Thaksin's assets following bomb attacks: source

A security source said the Council for National Security may order the seizure of assets of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra to cut money supply for financing disturbance in the country.

The source said the CNS believed Thaksin was behind the series of seven bomb attacks in Bangkok Sunday evening.

The source said the CNS noted many bombs were launched at police booths but none of police officers were injured.

  2. My wife use to work in the airport and what's interesting is that equal number of staff from the airlines made use of the internet booths there. So you can bet their staff either pay less or at those prices will not be using it at all. My wife made something like 500 thb a day so there's no way an airport worker can afford those prices.

Also remember at Don Muang there were two internet areas. I think the other one was something like 75thb per 15 minutes or something with a 15 or 20 minute minimum. But the ToT terminals near the CAT center were always cheaper. It seems to me that the Thais will increase the prices of everything in the new airport. recognising the tourists have very few options. I would like to see them offer WIFI for a flat rate. That would be used by a lot of people. I don't want to have to be a member with Thai or whatever to use it. Just give me card and I'll use it.

  3. There's an article on bangkok post that says that posting views on web boards is ok.

"He urged internet service providers to guard against offensive content, as providers and authors of any offensive messages will be held responsible for their actions."

  4. Well in the US Walmart has a bad reputation as one that treats it's employees poorly. I'm pretty sure that those working in Tesco Lotus etc in Thailand are thankful for their jobs. I've seen plenty of people shopping in these places and I frequent them with my wife when I'm in Bangkok, Khon Kaen and I would find these cities to be much less enjoyable if it wasn't for these places. Again if you leave it up to local stores you're going to find yourself being asked to pay more because it's assumed you have more money to spend than a local.

If you want to encourage two tiered pricing. One where foreigners are charged more just because they are foreigners than look no further than mom and pop shops. Don't get me wrong there are plenty of small shops that don't try to rip off foreigners but taking away fixed prices will mean it's up to the proprietor to set the pricing and anybody who's been in Thailand longer than a typical 2 week vacation knows what that means.

  5. I don't understand these people who are defending the policy .... where do you think you're going to find 2 tiered pricing? A mom and pop shop or a multinational?

    Wake up.

As much as I hate protectionism, this is good news for us!!!

This country will continue to remain cheap for us for a long long time... :D

And I will continue to shop at Tesco Lotus, Carrefour, Big C, 7-11 and avoid the small stores at all cost :o:D:D

  6. Aren't there enough ambitious people in T.R.T for Thaksin to feel that his life could be threatended? I mean Thaksin continuing to head the party puts the whole party at risk and I'm sure there are those within the party who would like to have Thaksin put the party before himself. If the people reject Thaksin they reject the party and the party becomes a political dead weight.

So will Thaksin still head north in the morning?

I suspect if it were a political statement of sorts it would be on a bus that goes past the Government house.

  7. Can anybody identify the snake from the skin?

We've been seeing this skin near our garden hose each day now. Our house has dogs so it's unusual to find a snake this close to the house that hasn't been harassed by the big dogs.

This is on the outskirts of Khon Kaen city.

  8. ...

    Hmm. Who owns M-150?

Also, is there a plastic wrapper around the top of the drink like say Oishi Green Tea?

Is he saying that only drinks found to be contaminated would be removed or any bottle of a product that's already found to be contaminated will be removed? Which one is it?

Mr Anuthin said any product found to be contaminated would be immediately removed from shelves. In addition to pesticides, checks would also be made to determine if there is any antibiotics contamination in the drinks.

  9. How come nobody has taken care of these people. I stayed in Karon Beach over the weekend and you're constantly hassled by these people. If you walk along the beach road you end up being asked to shake the hands of many Nepalese/Indian trying to sell you a cheap crap suit. They are particularly annoying on the Luang Pong Chuan Road. I didn't once see anybody buying anything from these people so how the hel_l do they stay in business?

I can even bare the cockney Mauy Thai voice that constantly comes round. "Monday night..." but I have no patience whatsoever for these Tailor touts.

  10. Yes, but if you looked closely it says "Operated by Nok Air"

Here's another tip for you... stay away from the 747's that Thai Orient uses as I'm pretty sure those planes are quite old. I just flew back from Phuket this weekend by Thai Airways and it was smooth in both directions. For <$100 I'm not risking my life with these budget carriers, especially that ones that use older planes.

Nice! I was just about to book them........
  11. I was at Lotus on Cheng wattana today look at DVD players and the first one he showed me was the Phillips unit which they seem to have a promotion on with some Hatari fan. Anyway since it didn't have any S-Video out he immediately lost credibility. So I saw the Pioneer 583 or 383 and the 585k s models. My gut told me that the 585k s is probably the best buy there. Anybody seen it for sale cheaper than 3990 thb?

Does anybody know what this player would cost in the US? It seems to be dual voltage etc.

  12. I'm in East Khon Kaen out by the Irrigation Teaching Center. I've been here for a couple of weeks as it's where my wife's family home is. Suffice it to say I've run out of things to do here already... I've been here a few times so not much will surprise me I guess.

    1. Where is a good camera store that stocks Canon digital SLR's... preferably the higher end. I've seen Big Camera at Big-C and the store in Oasis and I know it's pretty easy to find EOS 350's and Nikon D50's. I'm after a store that carries the 5D.

    2. Which snooker clubs are good and is there anywhere to play pool on 9 foot tables here?

btw: we had our wedding reception in two of the Sofitel Conference Rooms and that is easily the best hotel in town. I believe the buffet as Chareon Princess is a good deal if your hotel's ABF isn't up to standard. I stayed at the New Pattana hotel in Maha Sarahkarm just last week and I'd say their ABF is minimal.
