  1. That's the guy with the big Malaysian fish in his shop right? I bought a firewire 400/800/USB2.0 enclosure from there last year. A truely satisfying experience. He probably won't have brandname brandname since a lot of what he sells is Taiwanese made. my enclosure was Mapower.

I'm looking for a RAID5 SATA controller + port replicator. I find lots of options in USA (all made in Taiwan btw) but I'd rather try to avoid the hassle of trying to get it through customs here.

Although I have asked all the shops in Tukcom Pattaya they don't even know what I'm talking about.

Anyone know if/where I can find this in Thailand?

    Check with STC at Pantip Plaza. Tel.: 02 656 6127-8, 02 6565532

Shop is at Pantip 3. floor, Room: 325-6. Ask for Kuhn Visan. Ckeck also the Website at: http://www.stccom.com

  2. Ok so the rumors of the plastic cases scratch the body of the N95 are true I've seen this myself so today I took a look at MBK and picked up the only Silicone case they have for the N95/N83. I say N83 because for some reason some of the N95 cases that are around are labeled N83. No such device exists so it's for the N95.

Has anybody found a decent sliding plastic case for the N95 yet?

I have one here but it's not made very well and so when you slide the screen down it won't go up because the clips that keep the top plate on do not pass the plastic on the phone so this is a temporary solution...

Has MBK got decent plastic cases yet? These ones were made from very flimsy plastic but only cost 50 thb.

  3. Only place I've seen the CA-100 for sale here is Nokia at Siam Paragon. There's no sign of the CA-100 anywhere at MBK.

Picked one up today and I hope I don't regret it as it's darn expensive considering what it is.

I've seen that you can make your own but is there anybody who has tried any of the chargers out there?

ie. just the USB cables... not the CA-70 which is both or it's cheap clone.

I'm using a Nokia N95 and pretty much want something like Nokia's CA-100. anybody seen these for sale?

I've seen that you can make your own too on the internet so maybe I'll pay somebody to do that. But I'd rather not screw up my computer by using something that isn't completely sanctioned.

  5. Interesting as I went and bought those bone like chew toys for all four dogs and even thoughe each had it's own chew toy each dog wanted the others chew toys. Needless to say this leads to possessive behaviour and the dogs personality changes considerably. Even a six month old dog wanted to rip our legs off if we went anywhere near what it wanted to chew.

  6. If you take a car ride to the new airport you can see the new route being built.

That said don't you think the Taxi mafia have every incentive to sabotage this route? Just don't see both co-existing harmoniously in the future.

ANyone have maps of the proposals to see exactly where it is planned for?

Here's a map of the extension lines being constructed with the existing routes.

    bangkok-map.gif

What is the "pink" line that goes to Suwannapum Airport? It looks like it ties into the existing Skytrain System at Phaya Thai Station? When is it projected to be completed?

The Sukhumvit extension appears to be progressing well.

  7. Whenever I'm in Thailand I take advantage of some of the cheaper Chinese electronics whilst I'm here. For my money some of these things work just as well as their brand name counterparts.

    Here's an example...

Last year I bought the green one and this year I'm picked up the clear one. From what I can tell they both now do exactly the same thing.

  9. It is noticably faster than the N80. I'm happy with my decision to trade up from the N80.

    It's significantly more responsive.

Steffi, I assume you have given the N-95 a good test drive by now. I have an N-80 that I'm very happy with but would upgrade to the N-95 if/when better GPS maps are available. In any case I'm interested in the speed. How does it compare with the N-80?
  10. So what is the appropriate way to train a dog to no longer chew at an ABS brake cable under a car? You'd think some duct tape could take care of this but is there anyway of correcting the dogs behaviour? A couple of days ago the dog chewed thru 7400 thb's worth of ABS cable and that night my wifes mother chained the dog to a pole thinking it would stop the dog from being under the car. Turned out to be a bad idea as the dog didn't like being chained to a pole and subseqently damaged a 10,000 thb plant pot trying to get free. Usually the dogs are treated well. Now the dog is wearing the cone shaped hat you see when dogs come out of the hospital to stop them biting at their stitches but this surely isn't a good long term solution?

  11. Yeah that's the one I got. BTW: Did you find a two piece plastic protective case for it yet? I found one which is of very cheap plastic which will suffice for now but the top plate doesn't fit perfectly IMHO.

Well parted with my N80 today and picked up a N95. They did 10k thb for tradin on the N80 and did the N95 for 28k thb so all in all it wasn't too bad. N80's new seem to be selling for around 16,500 thb here.

Did you guys who picked up the N95 get one with a thai keyboard or english only?

do you think the N80 should fetch more? It's an older phone than the N73 but it has more features. I was told new N80's were selling for 16500? I that about right?
My N95 was 31000bht in Tukcom pattaya and I was offered 10000bht for my N73.

    :o

I think they are priced about the same now. :D

    both. :D

  13. Well normally the stands say how much power they require. I think there are too many 3 fan models for that to be a problem really but perhaps the 2 fan stand is sufficient.

    Hey,

A bit of a coincidence, I just bought a new usb hub and a new notebook stand.

The hub...is a Samsung Pleomax 4 port, and it also has a plug for external power, and came with a cable with a red usb plug on one end and the power plug on the other. I guess I can plug the hub into two usb ports on my laptop to get more power to the hub?

I also bought a metal 3 fan laptop stand. I cut the wires to two of the fans and left the fan under the cpu alone. I looked at the temperatures with three fans and with one fan, they were the same. I wondered if 3 fans going was using too much power from the usb port.

  14. The reason it's nice is becuse it's quite small and comes with it's own AC Adapter which is world wide voltage.

It's about the same size of a credit card and about a thick as the length of the USB port connector.

    It's a really nice find.

It's by a company called High-Edge Tech and it's their USB 2.0 7 Port HUB. Cost me $550 thb

I went looking for a notebook cooling stand and I've been looking for the 3 fan version of the common acrylic one with blue lit fans. Only can find the 2 fan version of this.

  15. Yes that would be good. Here in Khon Kaen the dealers are selling the phone for list price which is 28, 990 thb. Not sure how anybody can charge more than that right now. The phone I saw today did look real in so far as it had original box with all the things inside that come with the phone.

Can anybody comment on whether this deal is particularly bad.

I've been offered 10,000 trade in value towards a N95 for my like new condition (ie. well protected) black N80.

That would mean the price for the N95 would be 18,900

Thing is they are using the list price for the N95. How heavily discounted is it in Bangkok at the moment?

It's almost unheard of to be selling at the small shops for list price. List being 28,990 thb

Can anybody tell me what the vendors at MBK are selling N95's for?

31,990 THB at Jaymart. MBK shops usually undercut Jaymart by 15% but this figure can vary based on availability and "newness" of the particular model. At MBK I've found it best to walk around and look for the wholesale shops (evident by stacked piles of phone boxes, floor to ceiling) as these are where the counter shops go to get your phone anyway. You get the same price and save time as well.

I can check on the N95 pricing at MBK tomorrow.

  16. Sounds like DRM to me but have you tried a Mac? Maybe the rootkit they are using doesn't work on the Mac unless it's the Sony one I guess.

I know DRM is probably a taboo subject - so I don't want to know about cracks... (and I can use google myself anyway)

I'm just pissed off because when I bought the CD, I double-checked for the compact disc symbol on the packaging (which is supposed to mean it's a "proper" CD.), but when I put it in my computer, it's not a music CD at all.

I thought it was illegal (or at least breaking licensing agreements) to put that logo on discs that aren't plain music CDs.

It does let me rip the tracks to my computer (as protected wma files), but I don't carry my computer around with me...

How am I supposed to get it onto my Ipod? Or is the music industry in Thailand unaware that Ipods exist (Apple have only sold 100 million of them - they're obviously not a big part of the market)

Should I simply give up on buying music here, and just buy in countries where the CD logo means something? (or should I just buy music at Pantip, where I'm certain I wouldn't have the same problems).

  18. Anybody here with an N95 upgraded from a N80?

What is currently the top of the line Ericsson phone? Does it do Wifi reliably? I suppose it's very nice to have the Series 60 Web Browser more than any other on the phone.

Thanks and you really answered by question. A couple of other things and how do you find the battery life and is it possible to download other Cities/Country maps from Nokia or a third party do you know?

Battery life is about the same as my previous Nokia - non N series - phone. Not bad.

You can download other cities through the phone and from 3rd party vendors. All that is available for Thailand is Bangkok.

I was playing around with the AsiaMaps and it was pretty cool as you can zoom in/out, browse the map, and I saw many interesting things. When in Chiang Rai, I tried Points of Interest on the menu and found a lot of things i Chiang Rai listed. I was quite surprised.

As I play with it more, I will post more info.

  19. Can you describe your cooling stand for me? I'm familiar with a lot of the ones available.

I think I'll get the one that has the fans at 2500 rpm that's translucent plastic. Thing is you can get this model with 3 fans if you look hard enough. Normally you only see the 2 fan version.

I have a cooling stand and it really does work very well. Before in my non air conditioned apartment, the internal fan would come on and blow hard to exhaust the heat which would rise to 47-49 degrees. With a dual fan stand for around 600 bht underneath, I never hear the fan blow hard anymore and the temperature raises to 41-44 degrees on a very hot and sticky day like today

    Well worth investing in

  20. Well ideally I want to still be able to access money thru ATM with this card so I'm reluctant to cancel it out right but the bank says you need to call customer service to dispute charges and they aren't open right now.

    Bank of America...

Anybody got a positive experience to report with another bank?

What bank are you using that doesn't have a 24 hour line for reporting lost/stolen cards or frauds?

You will not be liable for any fraudulent transactions made on your card, as long as you have taken reasonable steps to prevent it, and you report any frauds at the earliest opportunity.
