  1. It's cheap. It's not unlike poor areas in the US. There stuck buying food at dollar stores and bargain outlets. Issan is terribly impoverished. There not going to stock high quality meats, vegetables, fruits, etc., if nobody can afford them. Diabetes and Fatty's abound in Issan, unfortunately.
  2. Do you have a spare room? Sounds like your living the dream.
  3. I'm saying most of Issan sucks for food choice. Unless you live on the outskirts or within a large Issan city your diet will probably lead to diabetes and/or slow agonizing death. If the diet doesn't kill you boredom will! 4. You"ll need te return them for the " holes" one or get an adapter. Get the " Smart life" app on the Google Play Store. You can later connect to Alexa or Google Home for voice commands. You don't have to though. Make sure you've got Bluetooth enabled and good WiFi YouTube video:
  5. Beef! That's even hard to find at the Topps in Sakon Nakhon. Certain areas definitely have better markets. Ours, unfortunately is hit and miss. Not many chickens here at the moment because of a "virus" has decimated the ones running around. Plenty of fresh dog meat available though if that's your thing.
  6. Unfortunately, in 95% of rural Issan your not going to have a selection or choice of "juicy meats" or the savory dishes you mentioned. You"ll find those at the big night markets in Khon Kaen or Udon Thani. Many rural parts of Issan, even there night markets are very limited due to the intense poverty. Even the Tesco's or mini'C run out of pork or chicken for some reason. Living here I find the most infuriating thing is the lack of descent vegetables and fruit. It's if most of Issan gets the dregs of the delivery's and what rural Issan doesn't want the ship to Laos.
  7. Kao chee, always try to pick some up for Yai and the kids. They really like it.
  8. Coming from a person trapped in Issan for 23 years and thinks it's the high life. Definitely nothing to brag about. You can have the rotten fish sauce, sinewy chicken, and food infested with parasites to your hearts content. There's a reason Issan is losing population numbers compared to the rest of Thailand.
  9. Honestly! It's really only popular amongst Issan workers. Shanty town setup like it is in Issan with no place to wash your hands or use a toilet. You're unlikely to find traditional Issan restaurants catering to tourists outside of Issan. Thankfully.
  10. That's probably why it actually tastes good.
  11. I live in Issan. It's extreme poverty. You'll actually need to visit and see for yourself. Take off you're rose tinted glasses and stop kidding yourself.
  12. Issan food, whoever is cooking it is definitely an acquired taste. Most Issan people live in abject poverty so there isn't much but cheap cuts of chicken, river snails, bbq rat, etc. Most need periodical treatment for parasites and worms due to there diet. I do like some dishes like Som Tom and green curry. Luckily I'm a descent cook.
  13. Hasn't Thailand gotten the memo about sanctions against China? Clueless.
  14. "Foreigners Laud Free Thai Visa Policy for Chinese tourists" The $35.00 savings doesn't seem much to laud about.
  15. True, but buying a submarine without a proper engine would also be a loss of face and point to the corruption involved in the purchase. In my opinion there more worried about the discovery of corruption and lost handouts than loss of face.
  16. Thailand has to rethink the "Chinese Submarine" fiasco.
  17. It's impossible with draconian laws forbidding most work for "Internationals" without jumping through hoops.
  18. How much is the re-entry permit?
  19. Sounds like Russian propaganda.
  20. You're better off buying a fiberglass door in the high humidity of Thailand. Perfect fit with frame. Easy to clean and they won't warp or shrink. I wish I had done that, all our wood doors have visible gaps now.
  21. Another right wing nutcase. You guys come out of the woodwork when there's reports of a deadly virus or news of masks. Too much right wing brain washing!
  22. Nobody is in fear but you. You want to censor all bad news? Perhaps just stick you're head in the sand or read comic books if real life events upset you so much. I assume people wearing masks upsets you also, right? Ugh.
