  1. They don't allow alcohol, or at least sell it on the train after a girl was raped by a drunk train steward years ago. Easy enough to purchase few beers and a greasy pizza to bring on board. Many express trains travel all night. Hopefully sleep and wake up close to your destination.
  2. First class, purchase two tickets for privacy and comfort. (You won't share with a stranger). Newer trains much nicer. Nothing luxurious. If you have the time it's a great experience. You'll probably choose to fly though after the train trip. If you have time and a like trains it's well worth the experience.
  3. Airport to Hotel is straightforward with a taxi Kiosk that collects the toll and gives the reciept to the driver. There is no haggling or sneaky business like you might encounter outside of the airport. It's a lucrative contract and privilege that's a taxi drivers pay for the opportunity to work from the airport. They don't want to mess it up.
  4. I agree with you. The article just seemed coincidental to a post by Scuba.
  5. Interesting. Nice to know he's tackling the countries problems.
  6. Get a Toyota. Better resale value. They stopped selling Chevy's in Thailand a while back. Probably difficult to get parts. Chevrolet isn't really a great brand IMO.
  7. Your just pumping the water into a river thats already overflowing its banks. It's like bailing out a boat that's already sunk. Bangkok, as everyone knows is sinking. Bangkok Post has recently mentioned 2-3 cm a year.
  8. "Stents, bypass surgery show no benefit in heart disease mortality rates among stable patients" https://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2019/11/invasive-heart-treatments-not-always-needed.html
  9. Thailand will take any person vaxed or not. Probably not smart but that's the little world of antivaxxers. If you end up getting hospitalized in Thailand expect a massive bill. Insurance won't cover you if get COVID-19, get hospitalized and are not vaccinated. Be aware that countries may suddenly change their entry restrictions without prior notice, so make sure to stay updated before your departure
  10. Malaysian usually only come for a quick day trip buying trinkets and such.
  11. Thailand 101. Don't think ahead. They probably make that in a week with tourists fee's to the island. Where is that money going?
  12. It still looks better than before.
  13. Everyone is out to get the other guy. Usual Thai politics.
  14. Probably just wasn't looking for them. Now that you've mentioned it I'll probably see them everywhere now.
  15. Koh Lipe, Koh Lanta, Koh Phang Ngan, Koh Samui, Koh Chang, etc. When we go we usually stay in a 5 star hotel directly on the beach so I enjoy it. (Phuket). You'll need 10,000-15,000 baht a day for a family a family of 5. .... Or you could pretend you're on Holiday and stay in some dumpy hotel blocks from the beach eating street food. Still need 5,000 baht a day.
  16. ...... it would be nice to have a direct flight from Udon Thani. It's difficult to get there from Issan without a long drive.
  17. I haven't smoked pot for 30 years. I remember growing it in our parents backyard. We each were able to grow one plant each (4 brothers). I thought it would be fun to grow a few in a few pots in our backyard. It's so tropical and humid. A little fertilizer occasionally. Right amount of water and good soil. Shouldn't I be able to produce some descent weed? Anyways my wife won't let me in any case.
  18. Expensive! Couldn't you just grow them in some good soil outdoors with a little tender loving care. We used to do that in California. They always got ripped off just a few days before harvest. Frustrating. Sounds like a lot of work. Weeds pretty cheap here and probably going to get cheaper.
  19. Fines are way too high for Thailand. Keep them around 200-500 baht. I agree with the drunk driving. Only the cops will benefit with tons more road blocks resulting in the usual cop handouts.
  20. If you are in Pattaya this place can help you get a 5 year license in one day. Heads up it's not cheap but it's foolproof.
  21. It's not going to be successful. Flights will be expensive for the average Malay family. Once a few Malaysian post on all the cons, ripoffs, etc the few ones who might come will cancel. I like Phuket, don't get me wrong. But I've come to realize there's definitely better beach destinations to spend my money at.
  22. That's good reasoning. There's plenty of Muslims food, minarets, etc.
  23. Obviously. 20 years here and I have never ran into one. Most Muslims I know don't drink. Perhaps Malaysian Muslims are exempt?
  24. Where is that laughing emoji when you need it?
