  1. With the amount of malls and new condos going up everywhere I think songtows could well be a thing of the past in the next 5 years or so. Yes they do serve a purpose, but contribute heavily to the ever increasing traffic problem in the city. Yes petrol prices have gone up, when I used to use them regularly I would speak in perfect Thai. Often they'd ask me how much I'd wanna pay, with a wry smile on their face, to which I reply with how much. Yet some of these daft fookers with no one in the back, when faced with someone who clearly isn't a tourist would sooner drive around empty handed than give a normal price to a farrang. Yet I've met many good ones, which are in fact in the majority. The best advice is play them off each other, there's so many of them. As you speak to them make it obvious you are keeping one eye on the oncoming traffic behind. If they quote you a stupid price back away from the window saying nothing, waving the next oncoming truck into the side. The price comes down rapidly! But by which point they've blown their chance with me and go empty handed. Of course at night expect to pay more.

  2. Yep now we get PLTV I'm happy. It also appears that CTH have done a rights deal with WWE, expect hulk hogan on a screen near you soon!!!

I also expect a similar thread about the World Cup soon... Appears RS have win the first round of the court battle, which means they'll retain exclusive rights and only 22 games on free tv.

  3. Yes, so as I said they didn't have this channel last season... So what I said is still correct. You can stream it from bugaboo tv website. Might only have Thai commentary though. You sacked off your CTH then?

  4. Kindly excuse my ignorance, but who or what are RS ? Due to the time difference between Brazil and Asia, I guess most games will be either late at night or early mornings
RS are rights holders for World Cup. They also have la liga rights that they show via Sun channel on their sun box. They will open 2 World Cup channels for the tournament. Games for group stages first 2 rounds are ko at 11pm, 2am and 5am. Final group games 11 and 3am same for ko rounds. Final at 2am
  5. After a while to think about these new rules, personally I doubt much will change. MOE just want to be sure a school is actually running classes. My learning centre said these forms aren't actually new and don't foresee any problems. I reckon a few spot checks that a scheduled class is actually being taught will be the only major thing they'll do. If you want an ED visa you'll get one somewhere. For me I think it's all about the schools' relationship with The MOE.

  6. This is gonna cause massive problems for some people. Not to mention learning centres disappearing fast! How do Walen aim to make life easier for its students and customers? Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

We are a recognised school, authorities know us for many years and they know we run an actual network of schools with students learning, not just a visa mill. There are many schools that are not schools unfortunately, students of those schools may get in trouble like happened already in Phuket when students from a visa mill school were blacklisted and cannot obtain an ED visa again on the island even when they move to another school. Walen students will get first class service, I can assure you of that.

good to hear macwalen. I understand your point on visa mills. You didn't really answer my question though.

If you have a potential student who wants to study as no bank account from his own country of origin how can he/she prove their income is from outside Thailand? Or are you saying that because of Walen's reputation your students will be exempt of providing this information?

  7. This will effectively kill the ED business.

Timwin, this is exactly the problem here, so many new schools literally sell ED visas and are advertising this way. This is the basis of their business, learning anything there is a secondary thing. The MOE can see that. Walen is advertising learning Thai or English and providing with it an ED visa assistance for those interested in long term study, it is a big difference. We have several thousand students and we take good care of all the paperwork so it is in order and we will continue to do so. I do not see any change for now for students learning at Walen School.

So what if I have no bank account in England and my income is solely deposited in a Thai account, can I not study at your school?

What is exactly required a proof of income???

  8. Yikes. Will be interesting to see what happens when we sign up for our Thai classes and they start processing the paperwork to deliver our "guaranteed visas". We're unemployed/self employed for the year we're planning to stay, but if they make an issue of it we could certainly show them a healthy bank balance...

Thanks for the link. I'm going to forward it to pro language, where we're planning to study, and see what they say.

    Keep us posted.
