  1. Indictment of Donald Trump Indictment of Donald TrumpThe People of the State of New York v. Donald J. Trump is a pending criminal case against Donald Trump, the 45th president of the United States. On March 30, 2023, Trump was indicted by a Manhattan grand jury for his alleged role in a scandal relating to hush money payments made to the pornographic film actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 U.S. presidential election, making him the first U.S. president to be indicted.[5][6][7] Trump faces 34 felony charges of falsifying business records in the first degree. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indictment_of_Donald_Trump
  2. Yes. They know the likely jurisdictions if there is a felony conviction.
  3. US Secret Service protection would follow Donald Trump to the slammer if he ever ended up there, former agents say Former President Donald Trump would almost certainly have Secret Service agents charged with protecting him even if he winds up in prison, former agency officials told Insider. There's an important reason why these law enforcement veterans are saying this, too. Trump's legal troubles have spurred ex-Secret Service agents and former Obama administration officials to wonder how exactly agents would protect a president who's been convicted of a crime and serving prison time. https://www.businessinsider.com/secret-service-agent-protect-trump-jail-prison-state-federal-crimes-2021-1
  4. My guess will be that the Secret Service is already in contact with both the Federal and State prison authorities just so -- in the unlikely that Trump would be subject to prison confinement -- they are not caught flat-footed.
  5. What legal authority and powers do Secret Service agents have? The Secret Service (also) works closely with the United States Attorney's Office in both protective and investigative matters. https://www.secretservice.gov/about/faq/general
  6. Well So what this is all getting to is can a US or State Judge overrule a protection order by the Secret Service.
  7. Well if you are not an American, then I'm not surprised you don't realize how powerful is the Secret Service. And all this was just arrangements so Trump could show up in person at a NY State Court for the arraignment. Preparations underway for Trump’s arraignment in N.Y. court on Tuesday Secret Service tour courthouse where former president will appear after surrendering to face criminal charges An advance team of Secret Service agents — mostly comprised of New York field office agents — conducted a site tour of the courthouse on Friday to map Trump’s path in and out of the building, according to a law enforcement official involved in the planning. The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the arrangements, said that “dozens and dozens of agents” will be required to secure the former president’s travel between Mar-a- Lago, his Florida home and private club, and New York. https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2023/03/31/trump-arraignment-secret-service/
  8. If it ever gets to that point I am sure the presiding Judge either Federal or State will work out arrangements with the Secret Service whatever they may be.
  9. I think the Secret Service -- who has obligation to provide protection to any former President for life -- will get have a say in any prison issue. But I'm not sure -- I'll have to check how they handled it when any other former President was convicted of a felony that would normally incur jail time.

  11. So I see that any discussion re: this ruling on Warhol and the ruling a few weeks ago to the Hachette v Internet Archive case as significant blows to the Access to Knowledge (or A2K) movement is going nowhere. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Access_to_Knowledge_movement But especially as in Assoc .Justice Kagan's dissent: Kagan, meanwhile, in a scathing opinion joined by Roberts, praised Warhol as the "avatar of transformative copying" and accused the majority of showing a "lack of appreciation for the way his works differ in both aesthetics and message" from the originals. "It will stifle creativity of every sort. It will impede new art and music and literature. It will thwart the expression of new ideas and the attainment of new knowledge. It will make our world poorer," Kagan wrote of the ruling. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/andy-warhol-supreme-court-prince-photograph/ And to the contrary supporting the decision from Association of American Publishers (AAP) Importantly, (the decision) reaffirms the fact that transformative use under the first fair use factor requires a robust analysis about the use at issue and cannot be interpreted so broadly as to swallow the derivative work right.” https://publishers.org/news/aap-statement-on-supreme-court-decision-in-copyright-fair-use-case-andy-warhol-foundation-v-lynn-goldsmith/
  12. Well they actually address this in the Supreme Court decision as to why Campbell Soup was fair use but the Prince silk screens were not.
  13. I knew it was a joke. I was just waiting to see if anyone was really interested in this before commenting.
  14. Oh well this -- and the recent ruling in Hachette v Internet archive US District Court NY -- are two recent knocks to the 'transformative' argument in fair use copyright exception.
  15. Sure but the Andy Warhol Foundation who owns the rights has assets of about $US 300 million. AWF was the loser in the above US Supreme Court decision. "As the owner of the copyrights to works of art created during Warhol's lifetime and the registrant of numerous “Warhol” trademarks internationally, the Foundation ensures that his artwork is accessible and exists in the world in meaningful ways that stay true to his forward-thinking spirit." https://warholfoundation.org/warhol/licensing
  16. This is the paragraph in the complaint which contains the only 4 references to 'pardon' or 'pardons': 132. He also asked Ms. Dunphy if she knew anyone in need of a pardon, telling her that he was selling pardons for $2 million, which he and President Trump would split. He told Ms. Dunphy that she could refer individuals seeking pardons to him, so long as they did not go through “the normal channels” of the Office of the Pardon Attorney, because correspondence going to that office would be subject to disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act. https://eddsa.blob.core.usgovcloudapi.net/public/650033_2023_Noelle_Dunphy_v_Rudolph_W_Giuliani_et_al_COMPLAINT_10.pdf
  17. And as I have commented before, the main impetus for my looking for alternatives to my 5 years with Gigna Global was that I was moving to a new province with no CG direct payment hospitals. And the procedures with both emergency and elective IP procedures with no direct payment was just not acceptable for me.
  18. Right and you are already on record regarding any money that might be spent on WrLife "I reckon your gut feeling is right on that, i feel the same, money better spent elsewhere." https://aseannow.com/topic/1281012-wrlifeany-more-info-or-updates-regarding-trust-and-claims/?do=findComment&comment=17795234
  19. So now the expats are just going for cheap-as-chips policy -- last time for you it was: "TBH those signed up already haven't done due diligence, it appears they were intoxicated by the lower premiums" https://aseannow.com/topic/1268153-wrlife-medical-insurance-experiences/?do=findComment&comment=17530780
  20. Just to note, as of 6 PM EST (yesterday) neither the New York Times nor the Washington Post has put the against Giuliani lawsuit on their website front page. Case filing: https://eddsa.blob.core.usgovcloudapi.net/public/650033_2023_Noelle_Dunphy_v_Rudolph_W_Giuliani_et_al_COMPLAINT_10.pdf
  21. The NY Times -- in March before Biden officially declared -- described J.B. Pritzker as ... The billionaire heir to the Hyatt Hotels fortune may be seen by some Democrats as the “in case of emergency break glass” candidate, one of the few prominent politicians who could stand up a White House run at a moment’s notice. (paywall)
  22. Fulton DA urges judge to reject Trump’s attempt to gut inquiry (2 hours ago) Fulton County’s top prosecutor was dismissive Monday of efforts by former President Donald Trump and a GOP ally to derail her office’s more than 2-year-old criminal investigation of attempts to meddle in Georgia’s 2020 elections. District Attorney Fani Willis said recent court motions from Trump and Cathy Latham, who served as an “alternate” GOP elector, were “procedurally flawed and advance arguments that lack merit.” https://www.ajc.com/politics/fulton-da-urges-judge-to-reject-trumps-attempt-to-gut-inquiry/4KMNHJS2TBHSRPHRPCNPXGI5JM/
  23. I'll bite. My 'dark horse': J.B. Pritzker, 2-term Governor of Illinois.
