  1. Infections among Hospital Workers in the Greater Jakarta Area,
    Indonesia: A Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract: (1) Background: because of close contacts with COVID-19 patients, hospital workers are among the highest risk groups for infection. This study examined the socioeconomic and behavioral correlates of COVID-19 infection among hospital workers in Indonesia, the country hardest-hit by the disease in the Southeast Asia region.

When you choose to like overseas, you appreciate your Medicare, which you pay for out of your SS check won't apply. So break your leg, and lets hope you have insurance in the country you live.

I am insured in Thailand via international insurance. I am exempt from Medicare Part B penalty so nothing is taken out of my SS check each month.

I have applied for what ever vaccine COVID options are available to me in Thailand hopefully starting soon or later this year.

All those checks would have paid handsomely for a trip to Guam or the mainland

My not wanting to fly back to the US for a COVID vax has nothing to do with finances. I don't want to sit by myself in a hotel for 3-4 weeks in the US  most likely without a rental car and then 14 days again quarantine in Thailand.  Let alone sitting in airplanes for 25 hours each way to LAX which I really don't enjoy even pre-COVID.

I am expecting the US as per vaccines to do nothing for someone like me in Thailand and will work on the vaccine regime as best as I can living in the Isaan sticks where the provincial daily case count stays below 10 and is many time recently zero.

So the "I can't afford it and want big brother to hold my hand" response.

Part of the deal when leaving your home country is that you'll lose many of the benefits provided by government there.  I'm sure you'll have thought of that before you jumped ship.

I said nothing about expecting the US to provide any vaccine for me here in Thailand. I just think some persons on here underestimate what would be involved to travel to the US JUST to receive a vaccine.

BTW other than Medicare for the past few years, I don't know that I've lost ANY benefits otherwise provided by the US government if I remained stateside.

Consider the developing information that is coming from VAERS:

Given this information, why hasn’t there been an immediate halt to these vaccination programs??? The spike in deaths appears to be incontrovertible evidence of the possible dangers of being vaccinated!

Fact Check-VAERS reported vaccine deaths have not been confirmed or deemed causal by CDC

The CDC explains here that VAERS accepts reports of any adverse event regardless of proof that it was caused by the vaccine.

VAERS did receive 4,178 reports of deaths (0.0017% of all vaccine doses) between Dec. 14, 2020 and May 3, 2021. However, these reports don’t point to a causal relationship between receiving the vaccine and death"

    VERDICT
Missing context. There is no evidence that the deaths reported to VAERS after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine are caused by the vaccine. Healthcare providers are required to report any death after vaccination to VAERS.

    2. Why not Pfizer in the interim?
    3. Why can't the private sector import the vaccines directly? Why does the stunningly incompetent government and health ministry need to be involved?

“We want to certify that the (Pfizer) company has no policy of selling the vaccine through any private agent. Until now, we have never imported the Covid-19 vaccine through our office in Thailand."

  7. So the 'hop on a plane' response. To go to the US for a COVID vax from Thailand is at least a 6 week endeavor between Moderna/Pfizer Covid shots (one-shot J&J not easily available) and quarantine upon return to Thailand. Plus all the PCR tests, COE and insurance requirements, and assumes one has a place to stay in the US for 3-4 weeks maybe with no car.

Besides although only a recommendation not binding reg:

    International Travel During COVID-19

    updated  June 10, 2021

Do not travel internationally until you are fully vaccinated. If you are not fully vaccinated and must travel, follow CDC’s international travel recommendations for unvaccinated people

Will the October date hold? Maybe, but as ALWAYS, expect Thailand to screw up the details...

In my residence in Thailand, my attitude is: When it's a done deal, let me know. Especially when, as much as people on here think they know what should be done, there is likely zero impact on what will be done.

Heres something to think about, Thammanat is PM, has to go to another country, sorry we do not allow convicted criminals entry, how would Thailand then look?

It says in the article linked in the OP:

"They add that appointing influential political “fixer” Thammanat as secretary-general relieves pressure on Palang Pracharath, as he can give the government security and tackle obstacles in its path."

But hey maybe the "fixer" has never thought about that.

BTW if he were to become the Kingdom's PM, then any visit to another country would be at the invitation for an official visit -- not on  a tourist visa.

I understand that $30,000,000 was promised to Thailand, and access to vaccines

Not $30 million in cash but --

The U.S. Government has donated $30 million in total COVID-related assistance to Thailand. This includes $17.5 million in ventilators, respirators, surgical masks, goggles, and other protective equipment to Thai doctors and nurses, plus assistance to support refugees in border camps.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has provided an additional $13 million in assistance while working side-by-side with Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health (MOPH).

    Yeah the whole situation sucks.

But if you can bunk down with a relative between shots, I think almost all States are now just giving them on demand for free

    ...

Expect to pay something at a private hospital at some point down the road

What relative? How to stay for a few days with friends without a car?

I should get the Sinovac soon enough and already registered for the Moderna come October. Meanwhile it seems Sturgis Rally 2021 may be the biggest conglomeration of non vaccinated persons yet seen in the US of A.

When you chose to live overseas, you obviously could afford to buy an airline ticket to get there,

No problem buying an airline ticket. I scoped this out. The big problem is where to stay for about a month between Pfizer or Moderna shots and the one-shot J&J seems in much shorter supply. Car rentals for now are in short supply. Let alone the cost and inconvenience of returning to Thailand .

Any US vaccine involvement here in Thailand seems remote at best -- I will just get a shot as soon as I can with what is available and then wait until later in the year for the High quality stuff.

3,000 unruly passengers so far this year -- 2,300 cases over mask wearing: FAA
    Wednesday, June 16, 2021 4:51AM

Acts of aggression are skyrocketing to troubling highs on airplanes.

Airlines have now reported 3,000 cases of disruptive passengers to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) this year, and the vast majority -- 2,300 -- involve people who refused to wear a mask. Those on the front lines have not only witnessed the increase in flight disruptions, but they've seen them become more violent.

The FAA is investigating the highest number of potential violations of federal law in unruly passenger cases since they began keeping records in 1995. The agency has identified 394 cases this year where passengers have potentially broken the law by "interfering with the duties of a crew member."
