  1. "2 witnesses" was clearly written on the form they gave me. The following explanation went like this: "you need to bring 2 witnesses...yeah, I think one witness is good enough... just bring your girlfriend" But it became later clear that the girlfriend du jour would not be sufficient, it had to be someone who really knew a fair bit about me.
  2. I would have guessed 5 years, but i googled it: October 2017. I got it in Europe (because Taiwan didn't have it) a couple of years after approval in the US, that was 2021.
  3. Same for me. Not available in Taiwan last time I checked (3 years ago). IIRC not available in Singapore, either, but I am not sure. China has it.
  4. Inflation is not the right measure. The right measure is "how many times richer than a Thai is the foreigner we let in?" 20 years ago, a security guard made 4500. A sales girl 5000 (and Thais went to work in factories in Taiwan for 15000). 65000 was 13 times more, a farang who got 65000 was wealthy enough to be let into Thailand. Today, a salesgirl at Platinum gets 20000. Factory workers 20000, can be even more with OT. The Thai middle class has grown a lot, and even if their salary is often less than 65000, their lifestyle is not showing this (my physical therapist, under 30, went on a weekend trip to Taiwan). 65000 is still quite good here, but is it wealthy enough to let them in? 20000 x 13 = 260000 = 8000$ monthly. If you have this, Thailand has several visa options for you.
  5. The bigger problem may be that this is just the latest slimming fad. There were amphetamines, there was fen-phen in the 90s, people died from these things, but it took many years until they were taken off the market. The Economist recommends to put the whole of humanity on Semaglutide (I am not kidding, they even put it on their cover IIRC) - can you imagine a better way to make money? All humans lifelong on Ozempic? And can you imagine a bigger perversion? Substitute food by American junk, and then put the people who ingest that junk on medication? We are talking trillions of dollars here, no wonder Elon and the Economist are excited.
  6. Zero Stars from me. It never works. Pending forever, past the due date. Are there negative stars?
  7. This should be in the health forum. No, it's not legal. Import of medicine needs a permit which you won't get. If your family sends it by courier (UPS, DHL...) it won't pass customs. If they send it by snail mail and just 2 pens, it may very well get through if it's not inspected.
  8. I am on a retirement extension. Can I expect problems when I apply for my next extension (that's next year)?
  9. 90d online report has been pending for almost 10 days. Next week I will leave Thailand (temporarily) on the 92nd day, so it's after the due date, within the grace period of 7 days. I could still go to CW in person for a 90d report - what could happen if I don't?
  10. So immigration at the border knew/saw in their computer that there was a case pending?
  11. I found another article that pretty much sums up what I thought about this subject ( civil servants and soldiers getting problems because of adultery, estranged wives suing for six-figure sums) https://mikeinvestigation.com/adultery-in-thailand/ But I never had any clear knowledge. The article from isaanlawyers clarifies things and has some interesting aspects I didn't know (paid sex is not adultery). Thx to @Gaccha and @Goat
  12. This is a very interesting article. It goes on saying " a plaintiff can apply to the court and seek compensation by suing the other parties involved, That is, both parties involved."
  13. 1. In Thailand, is adultery a criminal offence? 2. If someone has an affair with a married woman, can her husband sue him? Sue him for damages, or sue him to get him punished? I know he can get a knife and kill him, this is not my question. My questions are the legal aspects.
  14. Many examples quoted in this thread are from 2014 or 2015. At that time, digital nomads were still a bit of a novelty. Today, digital nomads are so mainstream that even a computer illiterate like me has heard about them. So the Thai government has heard about them too, and Thailand did introduce a visa for digital nomads. This visa doesn't fit the lifestyle of many digital nomads (it requires a high income and it may lead to paying taxes). But it clearly shows which kind of digital nomads Thailand wants. Not teachers on Skype. It's similar to Thai tourism: for 20 years they have been stating they want quality tourists. They got Indians and Chinese and Europeans on welfare. They will tolerate the hoi polloi as long as they seem useful. This can be decades.
  15. Can you give one single example for a digital nomad who didn't get away with it?
  16. Same here. Took about 3 hours. You can find your local tax office by searching for revenue office or revenue department in Google maps, or ask the motorcycle gang for sampagorn. Don't expect much English there. Same here. Took 8 minutes.
  17. There is only one thing a Chinese man cares about: white skin. So he must be absolutely poor and desperate before he chooses a Thai bride. Vietnamese are much more popular, people from Burma or Laos can be ok. A handsome middle class guy from Beijing isn't interested in Thai brides. An aging farmer from a village in Gansu or Inner Mongolia, maybe.
  18. "Sinogen" somehow doesn't sound Thai to me
  19. Foreigners also pay withholding tax on interest (e.g. from their 800,000 visa bail). Most foreigners don't claim a refund, which can involve a lot of bureaucracy for foreigners. The new (since 2021) property tax is also payed by foreigners. But the elephant in the room is the double-pricing for all kinds of other services, including government services, e.g. medical care. This is where Thailand makes huge profits from the foreigners, after all, if it weren't for the profits they wouldn't let them in.
  20. It doesn't work like this. Let's say you have a Thai bank account and at the end of each month 58,745 Baht arrive from Happy Lucky Brighter Fortune Co. Purpose of the transfer is stated every time as "salary". Looks a lot like a salary, right? Now let's say you have a Thai bank account and at the end of January you get 75,876 Baht from Happy Lucky Brighter Fortune Co. At the end of February you get 34,364 Baht from them. Purpose is stated as "January 2023", "February 2023" and so on. This goes on every month, except for December, where the money - 123,456 Baht - arrives earlier, at Dec 20th, and is stated as "December 2023 incl. Christmas bonus". Looks like what? Now, if you have a Thai bank account and you get 556,000 Baht on May 15th from Mrs Sabaiguy, stated as "for purchase of used Honda Civic", and on Aug. 7th you receive 300,000 Baht from your own foreign account stated as "living expenses", nobody is going to ask stupid questions.
  21. This is in addition to the addresses given in the pinned thread: Those addresses work regular office hours, e.g. not on weekends. There may be other complicating factors (e.g. unknown duration of the pregnancy). In these cases, the place to go - its a real hospital and they won't turn people away - is Khlongtan Hospital, near Khlongtan intersection.
  22. 14k for adult circumcision at a hospital like Petcharavej is expensive. That's a price I would expect at the international hospitals.
  23. Second this
  24. I had the same experience with Thai Airways. In midair they behaved even worse. They were very aggressive. That was before covid. Everyone tells me that their service and their attitude have deteriorated a lot since covid. And their cattle class has gotten worse and worse over the years.
