  1. You need an appointment with him
  2. Dr Oris, Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital
  3. The implants are used to prevent teenage pregnancies in vocational schools. Whole classes of girls get them. Note: it's not the upper class whose children go to vocational schools.
  4. Same here. I didn't know these things can devour you. I remember the accident in China, but accidents in China have never worried me. This is a lot closer to home. Lots of explanatory videos in Thai in social media.
  5. This is a strong steroid, often not indicated for local infections, combined with a local antibiotic notorious for provoking allergies. Levofloxacin eye drops are generally much preferable. Yes, eye drops can be used for the ear. But why you need that in case you are flooded? Do you wash your eyes and ears in the waste water coming up the sewers? Do you bathe in the waste water?
  6. The MRI doesn't sound like surgery is indicated, but ask a spine surgeon. I would ask Dr Sarit, Spine Center, Bangkok Hospital
  7. Thanks for all the answers Very helpful, I didn't know this
  8. I thought so. My friend should know the difference, but he is getting old... Thanks for all the answers, very helpful
  9. A friend got a tax refund of 6000 B, a check, by mail. He had to open an account with Krungthai Bank to cash this check. This took one hour (including checking his visa) and Krungthai Bank charged 500 Baht for an account (without ATM card - with ATM card it would have been more expensive). Is this really the only way? (Cannot use my own bank? Cannot cash the check without opening an account?) I got a similar check, too, but it's even less. I am seriously thinking of throwing it away. Can someone else who does have a Krungthai bank account cash my check? Any other reasonable alternative?
  10. It used to come in sachets (expensive) and in cans of 400g (much cheaper). It is not available in pharmacies, neither online. "Out of stock". Anybody knows an alternative? Or whether it will be available again?
  11. Yes, but Emporium, Lotus Onnut and Siam (with Siam Square, Siam Center, MBK) were there before the BTS
  12. Blocked as in barrier tape. The exit looks completely constructed, but it's the only exit at Bang Kapi station not in use. It is NOT an "exit connecting to the Mall" - nothing there connects to the Mall, it's all footbridges and construction and parking lots and dust, a quite unpleasant walk away from the Mall. It is just the exit that would be the nearest to the Mall. Fortunately, halfway between the Mall and the BTS there is a two-storey 7/11, so on your trek through the heat you can get a rest and some refreshments :)
  13. 100m sounds about right, it isn't far. But it is still amazing, as most people exiting at this station go to Seacorn
  14. The Mall Bangkapi - the biggest destination on the yellow line - is not at any BTS. BTS Bangkapi is the nearest station, but the exit nearest to the Mall is blocked. Maybe someone should tell the owner of the Mall to pay up. You have to navigate through endless parking lots and construction sites or cross at least 2 footbridges. Every other form of transport is preferable to get to the Mall Bangkapi. BTW staff at BTS Bangkapi had no idea where the Mall is or how to get there
  15. Clinics are everywhere in Bangkok, used by Thais for very minor things. Find a clinic in your neighborhood and check out what they can do. It probably won't be much. For change of bandage Thais would go to a hospital. Sheryl listed the best choices. Otherwise, every neighborhood has a local private hospital and they may not be very expensive. Places like Petcharavej, Kluanamthai (not a good hospital but OPD is ok), Ramkhamhaeng hospitals. Or the new Princ chain. Some are very expensive and not worth it at all, so it's a good idea to know them.
  16. Thank you, very useful comment.
  17. This is end-life-care in Thailand, for the vast majority of Thais (and poor foreigners).
  18. MFA doesn't do translations. For legalization, you need an online appointment. I have seen foreigners and Thais sent back for lack of appointment.
  19. Yes, there used to be another big regular AIS store somewhere there. They told me now there is just the counter in the hall near the Serenade store, 2 staff. They were quite the opposite of lovely.
  20. What makes you think so? There is a word for people like you. Serenade status requires a certain minimum amount of phone bills with AIS. I had Serenade status a long time ago but AIS stopped offering the service I mostly used so I became an ordinary customer.
  21. Took the skytrain at Mahatthai during rush hour. Quite crowded, most passengers seem to take it every day, as they were glued to their phones and ignoring the views. But then, the views there just show you the whole misery of Bangkok's urban sprawl. Views at Srinakarin are nicer. Loooong walkways. Stations seem always to be a bit away from where most people want to go, at least this is the case at Seacorn, at Mahatthai and at the Mall Bangkapi. (This is usually what happens if public transport is privately built)
  22. AIS call center told me to go to a big AIS shop with my request, they suggested M quartier. They were wrong: there is no AIS shop at M quartier (there used to be one). There is a big Serenade shop which kicked me out immediately (Serenade means AIS high value customer). Normal AIS customers are served in the hall, in the public area, by 2 staff at a small counter, no seating, no queue number, you queue standing in the hall (sometimes you have to wait an hour). Is it the same at the other big AIS shops, in Paragon, in Central World etc? Or is this a specialty of M quartier ( they were quite unhelpful, too)?
  23. 30 y.o. girl from upcountry, just arrived at Bangkok, Onnut No fever, but had 2 days of malaise (maybe fever) and sore throat before the cough started. ATK twice negative (done after she felt better). No sore throat No breathing problems Possibly weight loss, but she didn't check her weight An elderly relative upcountry suffers from bloody cough Where to go and start with a check-up? Any doctor recommendations? Chest institute is very far away, Camillian Hospital (used before in a similar situation) doesn't have an infectious disease doctor anymore.
