I have this pdf, but my settings look very different. It is S7 edge with Android 8. I also have Note FE with Android 8, the menu there shows Wifi calling. DTAC says my number is activated for Wifi calling already. I guess I try next week when I am in Thailand again

The "DTACcall" app lets me make phone calls from any country for Thai domestic rates. It works if I have internet, it can be Wifi or it can be mobile data from the foreign SIM in my phone. They recommend "Wifi calling" instead (not available on my Galaxy S7 Edge, doesn't work with mobile data, and DTAC SIM has to be in the phone). Any better idea? True used to have a similar app, but it didn't work very well.

Work Permit now possible with retirement extension
Lorry replied to george's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
That's a law starting from Jan 1, 2023. Regulations before were kind of complicated. You are right that a German state pension is not 100% proof that the person isn't working anymore. -
Work Permit now possible with retirement extension

They still do this -
Pretty much every 7 in Bangkok sells at least bananas, often also other fruit, sometimes vegetables. In Bangkok, they also sell unsweetened green tea (never seen it upcountry). Some also have onigiri and sushi, not only the usual junk food. Also frozen fish.

Work Permit now possible with retirement extension
Lorry replied to george's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Just before covid, Thailand opened a new general consulate in Munich, Germany. All new staff. This consulate initially insisted that only retired persons could get a "retirement visa" (as they called it). Applicants had to prove that they were actually retired as opposed to working by showing them that they got a state pension. They were very outspoken about the notion of retirement. As if they had read cleopatra's post. After covid, they gave the so-called retirement visa to anyone over 50. -
Work Permit now possible with retirement extension
Lorry replied to george's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I had a look at several non-imm O visa stickers, all issued for retirement. 2013 the sticker says "employment prohibited" 2018 the sticker doesn't say so another one from 2018: the sticker doesn't say so 2022 e-visa: it doesn't say so They are all from the same country, the ones from 2013 and 2022 are from the same consulate, the ones from 2018 are from another consulate. -
First time epilepsy seizures. Treatment options and advise
Lorry replied to how241's topic in Health and Medicine
This is a common reason for first-time seizures in Pattaya, the most common drug being alcohol. The problem with being frank with the doctor is that the doctor might be frank with the insurance. Better check before. -
Strongest sleeping pills available without prescription?
Lorry replied to BillStrangeOgre's topic in Health and Medicine
With the physical exertion involved in partnered sexual activity, you will get even more tired. As mentioning 2 posts earlier. -
There is no other vaccine besides Dengvaxia (Sanofi, France) and Qdenga (Takeda, Japan). Several vaccines are being developed https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dengue_vaccine

Absolutely contraindicated. Don't take aspirin if you have or suspect to have Dengue. Dangerous as explained in the article. "Suspect to have" means every time you have a fever. That's why aspirin is not popular here

Storage of medicines at temperatures of 32 to 34 degrees Celsius?
Lorry replied to zenobit's topic in Health and Medicine
Yes. Applies to most medicines. Some injectables shouldn't be kept in a fridge, it will be written on the package. Most packages say something like "store between 8°C and 25°C", this temperature interval does not exist here, even running a/c. Having said that, I never had problems when I stored medicine outside the fridge. Avoid the hottest places, like under the roof. -
If you want to buy a condo in Thailand the "FET" must name this condo, including address. This name and address must be written onto the transfer form (the form you filled out for your European bank) as purpose of the transfer. K-bank still has documentation of all your transactions at least during the last 10 years, but they may be a bit unhelpful. They also keep your old account numbers in their system, but they probably won't tell you. But even if they could find your transactions I doubt they would issue a new "FET" (it's called credit advise AFAIK)

Family Mart exiting Thailand
Lorry replied to VBF's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
For me, Family was often better than 7. Tops has always sold things I wouldn't buy, and Tops Daily is no different. -
Yellow Tabien Baan, need 2 witnesses?
Lorry replied to zhounan's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
"2 witnesses" was clearly written on the form they gave me. The following explanation went like this: "you need to bring 2 witnesses...yeah, I think one witness is good enough... just bring your girlfriend" But it became later clear that the girlfriend du jour would not be sufficient, it had to be someone who really knew a fair bit about me. -
I would have guessed 5 years, but i googled it: October 2017. I got it in Europe (because Taiwan didn't have it) a couple of years after approval in the US, that was 2021.

Same for me. Not available in Taiwan last time I checked (3 years ago). IIRC not available in Singapore, either, but I am not sure. China has it.

Inflation is not the right measure. The right measure is "how many times richer than a Thai is the foreigner we let in?" 20 years ago, a security guard made 4500. A sales girl 5000 (and Thais went to work in factories in Taiwan for 15000). 65000 was 13 times more, a farang who got 65000 was wealthy enough to be let into Thailand. Today, a salesgirl at Platinum gets 20000. Factory workers 20000, can be even more with OT. The Thai middle class has grown a lot, and even if their salary is often less than 65000, their lifestyle is not showing this (my physical therapist, under 30, went on a weekend trip to Taiwan). 65000 is still quite good here, but is it wealthy enough to let them in? 20000 x 13 = 260000 = 8000$ monthly. If you have this, Thailand has several visa options for you.

The bigger problem may be that this is just the latest slimming fad. There were amphetamines, there was fen-phen in the 90s, people died from these things, but it took many years until they were taken off the market. The Economist recommends to put the whole of humanity on Semaglutide (I am not kidding, they even put it on their cover IIRC) - can you imagine a better way to make money? All humans lifelong on Ozempic? And can you imagine a bigger perversion? Substitute food by American junk, and then put the people who ingest that junk on medication? We are talking trillions of dollars here, no wonder Elon and the Economist are excited.
