British Tourist Dies After Fall from Pattaya Hotel

No worries. The bags of onions down there would break my fall. -

Yours is an interesting observation: I just mean, has anyone plotted, on a graph, the incidence of flyers, by season? Are there peaks and valleys in such a graph, for example? Such information might be useful. -

Have you ever passed by the GIANT houses of ill repute there? One house in that quaint town has about 1000 rooms, or something. No windows on the outside of the building. Looks quite mysterious until you actually get inside. Then, all becomes clear. -

Thumping your house from just one mile away is really nothing. And, a week of thumping music from your local university is enough to drive one to drink, or worse... Some might go to any lengths just to stop the thumping....who knows? -

No. I think it might be more an issue with IMPULSE CONTROL....or lack of it. I am sure we have all experienced it. Never jump into something before one considers the IMPACT of one's decisions. Good advice. -

Not at all. I met a few genius girls while there. I am still in touch with them, but only now in the virtual sense. -

I won't go. Never have been there. No desire to go. You couldn't even pay me to go there. Thailand, forever. -

Do you miss the food from the old country?
GammaGlobulin replied to Chris Daley's topic in Western Food in Thailand
I miss the food at Polish weddings. There is probably nothing better in this world than food at Polish weddings. Poland can be considered an old country? Maybe, but not sure. -

Many of my Chinese friends in China are now heading to Laos. There must be a reason. Maybe you are right. -

Anyway...back to the original Topic by, yours truly, the OP....... a. The only way to go is to use integrated graphics, and not a separate discrete GPU. b. This way, there is just one less thing to fail on your computer, which is important if you wish to avoid needless servicing of your comp, as the years tick by. c. In addition, if you prefer a quieter computer, then you will choose to not use a discrete graphics solution. d. Also, using integrated graphics will mean that you will need only one fan, just one CPU cooler fan. (which will minimize noise) e. The tradeoff is that if you use an Intel CPU, then you are limited by the GPU "power" offered by onboard Intel graphics. Still, Intel onboard graphics is enough for most needs, unless one is doing engineering work, for example. e2. In the near future, Intel may offer it's improved onboard graphics for the desktop computer. BUT, and however, this solution will NOT be available for those who wish to build their own computers, it seems. e3. Therefore, as of now, maybe this is still the best and only option from Intel for integrated graphics? e4. e5. Discrete graphics solutions are complete IDIOCY, and very old and stupid solutions. The only way forward to have BOTH CPU and GPU integrated on one single chip. More reliable. Quieter. Lower cost...for example. f. Someday, I will run Intel Corp, and then Intel will leave AMD in the dust. g. And, NVIDIA? fU.....

As I mentioned several times, the more powerful GPUs require fans. I do not like fans. Too much noise. Fans break. Passive cooling is not easy..... So, again, this is why the integrated graphics solution is always best..... Yeah, Man! Go for it, Grub! You just need a large radiator if you choose to do away with your GPU fan.... No Problemo!

Actually: Thank you very much for your suggestion. I will do just this. Note: I must build a computer that will last me another 10 years....which means....it must be fast enough for moderate use in 2034.... (My 2500K Intel CPU with ASUS MB is still very adequate for my purposes at this time, in 2024. And, the nice thing about CPUs is that they are manufactured to last a very long time, and extremely fault resilient, I think.) But, this time, I will buy a more expensive CPU, and one suited to a socket (1700) for which I can buy a new MB five years from now, if needed, if you know what I am talking about.... Just in case the MB dies in four years, then I will still be able to buy a completely new, not refurbished, motherboard, five years hence. I mean...I am not crazy. I plan for the future.

British Tourist Dies After Fall from Pattaya Hotel
GammaGlobulin replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
If they had been cats, even house cats, they would have easily survived their falls. The human body just cannot tolerate a fall from more than 10 feet in the air, in most cases. This is why I have now chosen to live in a house of only one floor. Although, in my case, I would like to dig a cellar, as both a root cellar, and also as a bunker to protect my ears against the extreme-bass-thumping of the local music. Sometimes, I wonder if it might be this very loud bass thumping music which drives some foreigners to inadvertently fall from high floors, when they become distracted and overwhelmed by the sound of it. Raw onions (from local markets) on sandwiches: OK?
GammaGlobulin replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in Western Food in Thailand
When I was younger, and living in the USA, I used to eat those big purple onions as if they were apples. I loved to take a huge bite out those onions, and feel the burn, and the onion vapors rise up through my nasal passages. I still love to eat a few cloves of garlic, as if they were Chiclets, once in a while. And, as I say, when having Chinese soup noodles, a bite of a large clove of garlic is totally de rigueur, if one is from the north, or one is a Beijinger. -

Note: I worry that some readers here might not understand the MEANING of Local Markets. For the purposes of this Topic, we can define local markets in this way: But also, when talking about local markets, we can distinguish Big Box Stores from the local markets that you might find very close to your house, having vendors who buy and sell very locally supplied produce. Just to be clear that I am not, here in this Topic, talking about the major Big Box Stores, such as the ones we all know.... OK? -

It was the onions...believe me. And, as you just stated, contamination with bacteria is possible, although I would say that viruses are not likely. Also, the fertilizer issue must be considered. This is why, I think, big box stores guard against this by doing quality control in selecting their suppliers and growers. Such quality control of growers might not be as likely with small vendors in villages, for example. And, this was my thinking, too.
