  1. I got my Kor Ror 22 last week. For the bit in the UK I used a company called Vital Consular. They will handle the legalisation in the UK including Thai Embasdy in London. You can do it yourself but they offer a simple one stop shop for any document. The "official" agent for translation at the MFA has moved and there is a booking system at MFA. No walk ins now. I did a full update on location of translation shop, costs etc on this thread ,(the second to last comment is my full update)
  2. Hi I have managed to get all the paperwork required for my yellow book entry (eg marriage cert and passport stamped by MFA) plus the other things they asked me for however I now unexpectedly have to go back to the UK for possibly 2 or 3 years Should I still apply for the yellow book (and pink ID card) - I would like both (I know some people say they aren't worth having but I do want both) - or is a foreigner who leaves Thailand for 2/3 years am I meant to unregister myself from a yellow book (and hand back pink ID card) , ie if this is the case there wouldn't be any point in me going ahead with getting yellow book and ID card now as I will be leaving in 2 or 3 weeks time Thoughts much appreciated - but please remember I DO want both (if I can get them and allowed to keep them) - so I'm not looking for comments about how useful (or not) people think they are Kind regards Tim
  3. I have a Bangkok Bank but so far have had no luck getting FTT to appear in my bank book. I used Wise twice and was careful to make sure I selected the Long Stay Option reason - both times the money appeared in my account within seconds and doesn't show as international because it went via Kasikorn I then did a SWIFT transfer from my bank and they used an intermediary so the money came from Bank of Thailand as a Bartnet transaction (domestic transfer) So personally I am at a loss how some people seem to be lucky and get the FTT in there passbooks
  4. Thank you for clearing up my query - sorry for interrupting the original thread
  5. Please can I check something as I asked a similar question regarding the 800k a few weeks ago but got slightly different responses to this thread. My thread is below - the only difference I can see is that my visa is an OA and this thread refers to an O - so were the replies to my query correct, ie for an OA visa you DON'T have to prove the funds came from abroad but you do for an O visa?
  6. Hi All I have just returned from my roundtrip and thought I would provide some update as some of the old threads are now out of date - the below includes: 1) New location of the Translation shop (map attached) 2) Current prices 3) Turnaround time The MFA building is the one I pictured above at the start of this thread, however the translation shop has moved to another building. If you enter the MFA building you will still be approached by people offering to translate, but if you want to use the shop please see the map below (the information desk will tell you to go to Building A, however it is actually Building A complex - the building signposted Building A is the Dept of Special Investigations). So just follow the green arrows on my attached map - it's about 200m from the MFA Building. Once inside go straight ahead through a foyer then turn left and you will see it in the middle of a concourse. The prices have also changed Translate UK Passport : 400 Translate UK Driving Licence : 400 Translate UK Marriage Certificate (must have apostle and be stamped by Thai Embassy in London) : 700 Fee for MFA to stamp each document : 400 Service Fee if you want the shop to take the translation to the MFA building and deal with that side of it : 500 Processing time - Not sure if this is because of covid, but there is no same day turnaround - They operate a booking system now so if you plan on doing it yourself make the booking before you get the translations done as bookings can be as far as 2 weeks later - if you get the translation shop to deal with it they will make the booking for you and will post your documents to you when done (they didn't charge me for postage) - they will give you an indication of how long it will be - in my case I should receive my documents back no later than 03rd February Hope this update helps Kind regards Tim
  7. Thanks for all this help. I will make a list and go with hopefully more than I need (although it's not for a while yet) Just one more query - when I did a "dry run" at the bank, they asked if I wanted the statement in English or Thai - which should I go for?
  8. Hello I need some advice on exactly what is required from my bank to show immigration to renew an O-A visa. I have 800k THB sat in an account and don't touch it, so there is no issue with having money 3 months before/after etc My query is: On the day I go to immigration I understand that I need to get a letter from my bank (Bangkok Bank) - Please could someone let me know what this letter needs to show and what I ask the bank for in order to get this - can this be done in the morning or do I need to order it? If anyone can share a copy of the letter that would be great (obviously blanking out personal details) I understand I might also need a 12 month statement? My bank can only produce 6 months statements on-site. Can I get two 6 months statements to show the 12 months or do I need to order a 12 month statement from head office via my branch? Do I need a 12 month statement if I get my passbook updated every month (there are small transactions leaving the account every month but balance is always over 800k) ps I have read that their may be local practices in place so if it helps, the immigration I will be going to is Nong Khai Many thanks for any help
  9. Thanks for all the responses - I know where I'm going now - much appreciated
  10. Hello All I have looked through the forum and web but I am confused about exactly which building I need to head for to legalise 3 documents. I understand the process it is purely which building I need to go to as the information I have read is conflicting. Some people say Building A, some people say building B but everyone says it is the building in Soi 7 but everyone shows the same photo of the building (see below), however having gone on Google street view, the building which looks like this is the one marked "Department of consular affairs" which is NOT in Soi 7 (see top of map). Please could someone let me know if it is this building or if not which one on the map below it is. I would like to know which building rather than "tell a taxi to go to..." as I want to know in my own head which building I need to head to. Many thanks in anticipation of responses
  11. I guess what I am trying to establish is 1) Water tower = seems fairly pointless (if power cut is 2 or so hours) 2) Generator would be better as it could provide electric and therefore water pump would work as well as microwave etc 3) same as 2 above But what are others thoughts and what are the cost comparisons - it could be that solar is way too expensive or that generators are loads of hassle with maintenance - I think I have established that water towers (for me) would be of little value but possibly 50k Baht for a 5m scaffold style tower which would only produce a dribble of 0.5 bar water I welcome any more comments Kind regards Tim
  12. Hello All and Happy New Year I live in a rural location and have been considering building a water tower, however the whole thing got me thinking - perhaps it better to have a generator or solar power (because I would get water and electric) and I wondered if anyone had explored these and could let me have their thoughts/observations My own thoughts are Water tower - would only give me water (in a power cut) no electric and at 5m high the pressure would only be 1 bar so not particularly powerful. Other negatives I can think of are maintenance of the tower and Legionella With a generator or solar I would get water and electric during a power cut - so this seems a better option Has anyone built a water tower and if so what was approx cost and do you think it was worth it (I can happily live with bottled water and a couple of dustbins full of water for a few hours until power is restored)? Has anyone got a generator or solar and if so what sort of cost was it (and maintenance issues/costs) and do you think it was worth it? I would really appreciate anyone's experience with any of the 3 options Kind regards Tim
  13. Many thanks for the responses - It has put my mind at rest - even though my 800k will be coming from the UK it seems very difficult (at the moment) to get any transfer (I have done) to show as international I'll probably do a Wise transfer and keep the PDF printout as some kind of proof if asked I am newly in Thailand and whilst I have subscribed to the site for a while I have only posted 2 queries and both have been answered so I really appreciate everyone's help Hopefully I don't have too many queries (that haven't already been answered by other posts) Kind regards Tim
  14. Many thanks for the responses - the above extract from "ubonjoe" is what I was looking for / hoping to see Please can I just ask - is this written anywhere on a government website etc or is it from passed experiences/what others have said in the past? Having just got here I am already worried that my extension next year is rejected because I can't prove the 800k came from abroad Kind regards Tim
  15. Hi All I have recently arrived in Thailand on an O-A visa. I have managed to open a bank account at Bangkok Bank. I am intending on depositing 800k Thai Baht into the account to meet the immigration requirements. My question is about source of funds. I have read that for the 65k Baht a month option, there has to be proof that each month the funds came from abroad - from what I have read on here and other sites, this can be problematic as the transfers (even using Wise/TransferWise with the retirement option selected ) are showing as Bahtnet and not a foreign transfer. I have yet to find someone who has resolved that issue - sorry I digress as this is not my issue as I intend to just transfer 800k and leave it there Does the 800k have to show as a foreign transfer or are the source of the funds not important - I have done some "dummy" small transfers and so far everything is showing as domestic (I've used a SWIFT transfer from a UK bank, a wise Transfer and now a Western Union transfer) - everything shows as domestic - will this be a problem at immigration office? The official Thai Government websites I have found only seem to mention the 65k / month option as having to show as international - there is nothing stated for the 800k transfer option Any help much appreciated - preferable with a link to where the info you have comes from rather than your general thoughts on what an immigration officer might say Many thanks in advance Tim
