  1. I hope your daughter recovers very soon. As you say, it's everywhere and it so easy to catch. I caught it from my wife - she and four of her colleagues went to an event that was a hotspot. Four out of the five attendees caught it. Omicron spreads like wildfire. Here in Australia, the government now says that everyone will probably catch it, and the focus is now on helping people with serious symptoms rather than containment. Whilst Omicron certainly isn't pleasant - I had a fever with it - it does pass relatively quickly. That said, your daughter should talk to a doctor if she has severe symptoms.
  2. It's unstoppable, but it isn't severe. For me and nearly everyone else, it's just like a common cold.
  3. The numbers are certainly skyrocketing, but hospitalisations aren't. Read my post again - omicron is extremely transmissible, but causes much less serious disease than previous covid strains.
  4. What an idiot this man is. Test and go was for just one night - most people would need that anyway to get over their jet lag.
  5. News coming out of places where omicron was first observed, like South Africa, indicates that Omicron is more like a common cold for the vast majority of people who catch it. I'm one of those people for me it was just a cold and was over in a few days. Omicron is good news - it only causes mild illness, and because it's so contagious it's displacing covid strains that can cause more serious illness - for example Omicron now accounts for 90% of new cases in the UK. Due to the rapid onset and shorter course of Omicron, isolation periods are being reduced to just five days after a positive test in the US, seven in the UK, ten in Australia, and zero days for asymptomatic but positive cases in South Africa. Unless a more virulent strain that's more transmissible than Omicron appears very quickly, the pandemic is thankfully nearing it's end. I hope that Thai authorities accept that Omicron is unstoppable sooner rather than later.
  6. Thailand will have to do what Australia and other countries are now doing - it will have to realise that only hospitalisations matter, infections don't. Omicron, in particular, is extremely contagious (lots of infections) but leads to far fewer hospitalisations than previous strains, as studies in African countries (where it originated) have shown. Whilst there is a rump of vested interests who hate to see the back of covid, or any other upheaval for that matter, common sense is starting to prevail.
  7. From what I've heard WA is different. It's very isolated and still only relatively few cases so maybe Delta over there as you say. Here in NSW, by all accounts omicron is now the predominant strain. It's certainly extremely contagious. I caught it from my wife who attended an office gathering in a restaurant that was later flagged as a hotspot to her via an SMS from the contact tracing service. Of the five people from my wife's office who were there, four caught covid. Omicron spreads like wildfire, and the incubation period is short - our symptoms appeared 3 or 4 days after contact, similar to a common cold.
  8. I've had covid for the past few days, presumably omicron, as it's sweeping through Australia where I am at the moment. I've had a low fever on and off. The others symptoms are those of a heavy cold - stuffy nose, sore throat and a cough.
  9. I'm in Australia and I've had covid for the past few days. It really does feel like an ordinary upper respiratory tract infection - like a fairly heavy cold - a cough, runny nose, occasional low fever, chills, sore throat and minor fatigue. I'm eating as usual and paracetamol controls the symptoms well enough. On a scale of 1 to 10 - where a 1 is being as slightly unwell as it's possible to feel, and a 10 being the sickest I've ever felt in my life (chicken pox, in my case), this is a three. Many cold and flu episodes I've had have been worse.
  10. Thailand is a conservative country. Headbanging liberals in western sponsored outfits like HRW have no right to tell Thailand what to do.
  11. It means that one of the back end services upon which the Web form depends has timed out or is unavailable/overloaded. Best to try later. Using anything like this on the first day is asking for trouble.
  12. Bangkok Bank has a minimum top up of only 20 Baht - gets you one month extension of validity.
