  1. Only ever had good service, personally at Thai banks. But then I am a "Very Hansum Man" !!!!
  2. Really the attractions are shooting themselves in the foot. If they abandoned dual pricing more tourists and expats would go to an attraction....they would pay less in entrance fees but this would be far outweighed by their increased spend on food ,drink ,souvenirs , merchandise, and increased local employment including coach operators etc. Just my opinion but many thai enterprises preferr to make a quick fast buck rather than provide a proper service and get repeat busines.
  3. For me the ideal would be to keep a base in my home country (UK ) say a smallish flat in a decent area and spend 6 months ( the colder ones) in a warmer country or countries. A big question would be where can I find cheap rental property in a pleasant area ? This saves worrying about property maintenance which is a big issue in places which have frequent typhoons, earthquakes and floods. Any suggestions in Asia? Then you can also move about every so often if you get fed up!!
  4. I wouldn't bother mate. Philippines is not a patch on Thailand Hotels are way overpriced and in many cases poorly maintained except at the top end. Prices in shops are also ridiculous, in many cases much more expensive than the UK for lower quality. Corruption is rife and makes dealing with government officials expensive!! Transportation is very inefficient . Thai taxi drivers are angels compared to the many fraudulent and intimidating Manila taxi gangsters!! The environment has been degraded in many areas by unrestricted building on farmland and vast mining and logging operations. I could go on!! The country is kept afloat by a vast army of OFWs( overseas Filipino workers) sending remittances home to their relatives ..who then decide they are too posh to work!! I have spent a lot of time in both places and while Thailand has its faults RP is not a viable alternative. Just my opinion of course????
  5. Childrens educational results are generally more dependent on the support and attitude of the parents than on the quality of teaching or facilities or the amount of money spent. Not sure what this says about Thailand!!! Maybe good jobs being reserved for those with connections has something to do with it?
  6. Before people whinge too much , you should be aware that in the EU most local authorities levy a COMPULSORY tourist tax per adult person on every overnight stay whether at a hotel ,b and b and even camp sites!! This normally up to a lot more than 300baht for a 2 week stay in a hotel. So for a long stay 300baht is a bargain. The issue is that the tourist taxes in Europe are ringfenced and used to improve local amenities like street lighting , pavements and car parks which genuinely benefit visitors as well as the local community. However ,will this happen in LOS? Answers on a postcard to Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn Minister of Tourism and Sports 4 Ratchadamnoen nok Road, Watsomanas, Pom Prap Sattru Phai, Bangkok 10100 ????
  7. Never mind the cost buddy. Stay away from me!! You will be farting like an elephant for hours!!!
  8. Sounds awesome mate thanks. I will make a bee line for this luscious breakfast next time I'm in town. Mine's a large one!!! Well that's what I tell the ladies!!
  9. My question is why anyone would want a BUFFET breakfast? Toast, bacon ,eggs etc left in warm dishes for hours ..yuk!! That's for cheap Charlie's or people who don't care about good food. I prefer to go for a proper English breakfast..FRESHLY COOKED and served with a smile and hot cup of tee or coffee!! Now where is the best venue for this in town?
  10. Sounds like a great new game to be played on public transport. Spot the mystery passenger! I will select a male in a dark suit ,with a clipboard and a briefcase, every time!!
  11. The Dancing Elephants are of course supervised by The Flying Pigs, ably supported by the legions of Sick Buffalos!!
  12. The only times someone has tried to start a fight with me in Thailand ,the aggressor has been a drunken farang! Both times were in bars inside and the bar staff got rid of the idiots in question (neither of whom were fellow Brits). Personally I wouldn't drink outside the local 7eleven which seems to be a venue for alcoholics.
  13. One very positive aspect of Thailand is of course that foreigners are allowed to get away with all sorts of behaviour which Thais frown upon . HOWEVER when lives are at stake this tolerance should not be abused! Jail or a hefty fine to be released for these idiots.
  14. ????As usual the clowns are several months behind the curve. The rest of the world is now tightening up travel because of another variant.. but TIT so the uniformed clowns are still responding to the situation as it was several months ago!!
  15. He's obviously trying to appeal to the over 70s of all genders who are looking for a toyboy.????????
  16. As a patient I can honestly say my experience in a private Thai hospital a few years ago put the British NHS to shame. Eg test results coming back within hours rather than days; daily visits even on Sunday by the surgeon . However this is only after I paid upfront with my credit card to get admitted for emergency surgery. Even after this I had to finance the follow up 2nd op with my card while waiting for my insurers to cough up! For me even without insurance the price was so cheap ..the cost of a private room with own bathroom, cable ,air con and balcony and all meals plus nursing care was LESS than staying in a 3 star hotel. However many of my Thai friends told me they could never afford this. Sure the Thai health sector is great if you have the money. Try going to a public hospital and you will not be impressed.
