Anyone have the same experience? My GF says all the Thais complaining about electricity on FB. Last few years hottest 3 months of the year

my bill would max out at 2000 - 2500 baht. This year last 4 months 3500 baht. I am pretty liberal with the air cons <snip>

3,500 a month? count your blessings!

Maybe as a general statement over the economic history of Thailand since 1932.

But in terms of the Prayut junta-government, it took 5 years to match the nation's GDP growth rate plummeted by pro-military protests and junta economic policies. Currently, the GDP growth rate has  regressed back 2 years.

Thailand needs great economic policy makers.

If Prayut recycles junta-economics, the "best brains" won't matter.

Couldn't be due to the high value of the baht, could it?

yes indeed. Their products are too expensive to purchase.

    yep! that's why Thailand's exports in 2018 amounted to US-Dollars 180,000,000,000.-

For existing A/C units I've noticed a little box attached to the wall and connected to the unit.   Plugs in to electric power.  Somehow cycles the compressor in a more efficient way that saves power.  About the size of a pack of cigarettes.  Looks easy to attach, so maybe could use in rental apartment or on existing A/C unit.  The name was something like "King Power", but not exactly that.  Here in Thailand.  Anybody know about that?

"Somehow cycles the compressor in a more efficient way that saves power." keeps also poisonous snakes away, makes home cooked food tastier and let the Baht fall vs. home currency. :coffee1:

And pay a bit extra for real inverter and with a button on the remote marked 'SAVING' (e.g. LG).

Pressing 'SAVING' after setting temp. etc (every time you turn on the A/C cuts as much as 40% off the bill and more if you get serious to use a temperature setting which is not 'freezing' and if you select fan speed as really needed.

Initial price a bit more expensive but easily recouped by much reduced electric bills.

    Good luck.

"Pressing 'SAVING' after setting temp" ...means either sweating or :cheesy: as far as the 40% savings are concerned.

So, you got to know each other a little ... ????

very little. just a few weekends in Singapore, Hong Kong, Bahrain, Dubai, Rome, Cairo... and always with her younger sister as chaperone. after marriage it took a couple of years to get to know each other a wee bit more than a little.

I think waiting till you are more mature (more so for the guys) is also important. Getting married in late teens/early 20s is a huge gamble I believe.

People change so much in their early adult formation years, if a couple can grow together then that's great but a lot just grow apart...

I think by the time you're into your 40s, you've pretty much become who you are going to be !!

didn't make it till 40, got married when 37.

Who would want to tinker with our currency?

The reality is that China and about 20 other nations are already doing so. By using public capital to purchase huge quantities of United States government securities over the past two decades, they have driven up the value of the dollar to make their own exports supercompetitive.

what a load of rubbish! :cheesy:

nope! Robby's explanation and assumption pertaining to Venezuela is correct. moreover, he did not refer to WTI but to shale.

There is no way of determining when or if shale oil will run out. Since "fracking" wells are commonly drilled and then capped until prices rise. Also, horizontal drilling is a common practice. I don't believe you can make that determination especially in the Bakkens oil fields. If you do know this, then you must be a very wealthy person or a fool for not acting on it.

nobody said anything about shale running out, capped wells or horizontal drilling. my comment agreed with Robby who pointed out that light shale requires an addition of heavy crude for multiple usage. does that make me a very wealthy person or a fool?
