Going the same way as Cambodia. Namely controlled corrupt officials, (Cambodia by ex: Khmer Rouge, who instead of holding high office should have faced a death penalty). Going the same way as Myanmar, controlled by an oppressive dictatorial, military junta! Let alone Vietnam and Laos... Pity the SE Asia block can't see it!

Police Prepare For Nationwide Protests, Parliament Heavily Guarded
Phil1964 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Myanmar generals must be rubbing their hands in glee, "takes the international spotlight off our atrocities". China rubbing their hands too, "Destabilise Thailand and move on in". Hold on tight. Maybe the Thai army will enlist the Soviets 'on holiday' there?? Shame the generals and the corrupt can't see what a <deleted>storm they're brewing. -
Thai tourism surge: 25 million visitors forecasted, boosting economy
Phil1964 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Eva flights to Thailand have been over £1,000 pretty much all through 2023. Ditto Thai Air.. Booked in early April my Mrs and her 10year old daughter on Eva Air return flights for a one month trip 17th July > 17th August, (which is before most English schools close for summer hols), cost £2,100 for 2 pax - 1 adult / 1 child. To have travelled for Easter it was even worse. Maybe I'll book myself 2 weeks away from them, their constant arguing and the UK winter on the flights you mentioned. I'll have a look, book and not tell them where I'm going. ???? -
Thai tourism surge: 25 million visitors forecasted, boosting economy
Phil1964 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Air fares from Europe for anything resembling a convenient hassle free journey are now a £1,000 plus, (Thai, Eva, Emirates, Qatar, FinnAir). My Mrs is going to her family this month and Eva Air was £1,100 return when booked in April! Flights westwards to Mexico, Caribbean and USA are popping up in price brackets akin to 2018-19 at £350 to £500 return. Heading east is a non-option at present. It's cheaper to fly to many Latin American than SE Asian destinations in 2023 from London, (it's a long time since that has been the case). Thailand is Asia's Spain /Portugal, 'so near and on the doorstep' hence the visitor numbers from India, China, Singapore etc, these days dwarfing the number of debt encumbered visitors from recession haunted western economies. I guess not what the beer and bar girls want to hear or endure. Be interesting if political unrest erupts, then watch tourism die a death and the baht tank... -
4.8% increase down to imports. Thailand taxes to the hilt any imports to protect it's own economy and manufacturing base, (I thought, or am I mistaken on this)? Plus it mentions revenue coming in from previously deferred taxes. Like others say on here this money won't filter down the social classes.

5million a year = 97,000 / week on average. Thats the kindof Chinese takeaway figure I like! ie: Not too many of them wandering around, getting in the way, pointing their phones at everything for a quick tiktok upload. Mind you I'll make exception for the Chinese girl, (Huanxi), on the bus in the other news article on here this morning. I could watch her moon rise and fall all day long! ????

Are they wearing masks because they still think it's required in the fight against covid in 2023? Or: Are they wearing them to try and retain some anonymity? Must have been a busy night back at their offices cashing up proceeds of all the brown envelopes they must have collected on their 'door knocking' escapades??

Can't it be late July to mid August 2023, then my Mrs and her daughter could be: 1) Stuck in Thailand when they go to visit. 2) Could sign up and join in, then they could fight to their hearts content in their own country, instead of here with me stuck in the middle constantly playing mediator / bouncer / referee! ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Phuket’s Crime-Free Project Nabs Over 1,000 Foreigners for Visa Overstay
Phil1964 replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Looks like those who are using the database don't have a clue what they are meant to do with the data, or more likely, they don't know what the **** they're doing! Would guess most the overstayers who have left the country are from Myanmar, migrant workers. Then a chunk of Soviets and Chinese. -
Absolutely. They are utterly dogmatic about time, breaking time down into 15 minute segments. Hear it from other 'farangs' married to Thais. I put it down to fact a lot of them end up being single Mums with just an elderly relative helping around childcare etc, so time and scheduling becomes of the essence! (Or in my dark humour moments I ask her if during WW2 Thais ran the Japanese POW camps)?????? If I'm out doing errands and in my Mrs' head she thinks I should be taking no longer than one hour then God help me on 61 minutes when my mobile switches to constant ringing even though I may be driving. When I answer the stock questions are, "Where you now? Why you late? Followed by the accusations I've sloped off for some Boom Boom with other lady!! (Bloody chance would be a fine thing)! Same impatient attitude problems with her daughter, unsurprisingly. If something is not to her timeplan, (whatever it may have been as she rarely gives any advance notice), then "BOOM" off she goes like the proverbial bomb, aka: Thai psycho! In essence urban Thais are so impatient, especially the female variety. It's why the husbands go and hang out with mates. Gives their wives something else to complain about instead of them trying to understand the psychology and effect of their actions. Ditto why globally men take up golf, fishing or crickey. A reason to be out the house for hours on end not just minutes!

Students Fatally Stab Each Other at Sisaket Province School
Phil1964 replied to webfact's topic in Isaan News
"Another example of how thai people cannot control their anger and lack any after thought of their consequences..." Steven100. You hit the nail right on the head there, with your observation. I can back that up every day with my situation, (mother & her 10year old daughter). Does'nt matter how blunt or loud I proclaim the fact you mention, neither ever listen or want to understand or learn. Thais should come with a health warning stamped on them, like cigarette manufacturers are forced to provide on their product packaging. -
Superpimp-turned-whistleblower won't give up fight
Phil1964 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Superpimp? Big Joke? Whatever next?? Honest Joe - Prime Minister Dough-Nut - A northern province's chief of police. Sue Kee Coch - Chief of Thai Ethics Committee, (Prostitution Branch). -
Pattaya Tourist Police Inspect Beach to Prevent Prostitution
Phil1964 replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Thailand. Reading this news channel each morning shows what a "Big Joke" Thailand is and provides a great comedy fix. I'm surprised no media exec has'nt found this and gone, "Hey we could make a 9pm comedy slot out of this"! The Thai Die News Today show.. ???? -
Absolutely, and as the victim was a British citizen should'nt the UK police / authorities now have him in their custody and charged, seeing as this perpetrator is back on European soil? (Maybe he's already flown off elsewhere on another fake passport). Or does co-operation around things like this not happen in European circles?

Foreign buyers fuel 200% surge in Thai luxury property sales
Phil1964 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
11% were sold to foreign buyers it states in the article, totally undermining the statement in the headline to the article. Were these journos trained at the hands of Murdoch's media empire at The Sun? Rubbish editorial content yet again! Anyway, based on Thai construction quality I cannot see how these high price tags are justified, other than if the view of the ocean is stunning, which has become the norm in many other countries... -
Military-backed senators refuse to back MFP form a government
Phil1964 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Well what a surprise. A cozy in power army government respects the will of the people, NOT! They're probably being advised by China and Myanmar's generals how to crush any forthcoming dissent. Coups, martial law etc etc. A perfect recipe to destruct their vital tourism industry revenues. I wonder where the Phuket Soviets will move too if it does kick off, perhaps they'll enlist? ???? -
WTF! Thais are much better parents?? Well if you like your schooling and upbringing theories to be that of the Victorian era, it may well be. But from my first hand experience of living with my Thai wife of 46 and her 10-year old daughter, I'd say the exact opposite is true. All I know is that Thai Psychosis would make a great dissertation topic for a degree! And that in our town our hard pressed social services and police team are too underskilled at knowing how the Thai psychosis works to understand how to diagnose the 10year old fledgling psycho! I really can't be arsed with providing a sponsorship for their family visa much longer, seeing as they both show no respect to this country, other people around us along with me and my family. They do like Sterling however! No, not the useless Liverpool and Man City reject, but the financial variety of Sterling!

What another Thai scam to extort money from people coming to enjoy themselves in Thailand, while they are spending money for the Thai's economy! Really does look like the country is run by inbred red necks. Plenty of other welcoming destinations to visit, that don't have such stupid priced airfares to boot, that are higher up my wish list now!
