Controversy over Lisa’s tattoos shows misogynistic, outdated mindset
novacova replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
A couple three years ago an ordained traveling Tattoo Monk came through the area, stopping at village to village tattooing people and the villagers from each village would follow the monk to the next village. It was quite a parade of people by the time we got to the last village and hordes of people crammed in a small temple area. Highly coveted tattoos, certainly not the same from the master dham type shops. -

In an era of razors and scissors are easily accessible, I could never figure why there are those who like the grungy cave dweller look ????. Unless of course they’re dirt poor and can’t afford a haircut and a razor. -

By all means, stay away from freaking agents, due to the potential inconvenience such as this. -

JetStar, one of the most hated airlines in the world – survey
novacova replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It’s more like the chiit customers towards the airline staff. See it all the time, impatient pushy and expecting to be served through the prism of one’s own view. Imagine having to deal with uptight amazingly arrogant customers who think they’re entitled day in and day out. -
Chiang Mai Air Quality and Pollution

Whatever method used for keeping particles to a minimum, it will be useless unless the dwelling is sealed well, even a small crack will vent a lot from the outside. -
Chiang Mai Air Quality and Pollution
novacova replied to Cheesekraft's topic in Air Pollution in Thailand
…yesterday was windy and should have blown much of the smoke out, but it didn’t because it was blowing smoke in from neighboring counties then settling in the valleys. Various contributing factors and I doubt eliminating trash burning and not having any wildfires in Thailand will give us clear skies this time of year. -

It might lighten up a little in next day or two, maybe worse is yet to come if the stuff from the west or northeast comes in. -
What do you expect? It’s an Indochina region. Though it seems that the OP has some sort of fear of being close to China for some reason, unlike the millions upon millions of people who live in this region.

Amerin and other tv channels here will run these clips for up to an hour or more during programming. Cameras everywhere and they’ll show it on and on in detail, unlike in the US where it’s just a brief blip if mentioned at all. And…per capita, I see more careless westerners driving than I do Thais, simply because they’re in unfamiliar territory like driving on the wrong freaking side of the road, not to mention I certainly see a lot more westerners hobbling around with injuries from motorcycle accidents. I’ve driven thousands of kilometers here and I have no problem with the safety of any of the roads I’ve driven on, and staying within the limitations of the road and watching out for other drivers is always paramount to safe driving anywhere. I don’t think Thailand is less safe or more dangerous except for a lot of motorcycles I see at night with no lights, and yes I’ve driven by quite a few motorcycle fatalities during the night.

Maincina, first of all just ignore the debased posters littering the site. You'll be fine with just the one jacket, nights are still a little cool though for me a sweatshirt is good enough and I only wear shorts unless I’m riding the motorcycle early in the morning when it’s coolest.. Personally I’d just fly to CM, my personal preference.

finding a very well-informed travel agent in Chiang Mai
novacova replied to orang37's topic in Chiang Mai
My own personal experience is to deal with the airline directly and not use travel agents, rescheduling can be cumbersome, difficult and expensive. One way purchase is usually less expensive to the destination than the return because of the early date, example booking 10 days before the flight could be 25000฿ more expensive than booking 45 days in advance. Choosing the the flexible date option on the return with an airline can be very expensive, not only on the upfront end, but when you rebook the return they’ll charge whatever the current price is for that flight on that date. So it’s important to speak with the airline to get a clear understanding and be sure to read documented agreement of the fair base type of the ticket before purchasing to avoid any misunderstandings. Scout out the price on the internet then call the airline. If the international airline doesn’t provide booking from home city, then book separately one way from home city to international airport and book the return to home city about two weeks before the return, because of the frequent schedule changes of the US airlines. Of course, booking round trip and not changing the schedule will always be less expensive. -
Your CoR is for Pattaya, do you plan on reporting your new residence to immigration when you move to CM? I could be mistaken though I’m pretty sure you’ll have to do this for your license and vehicle registration as well. It’s been awhile since I’ve read the regulations but I think it’s a week or two to change the vehicle registrations and license when you move/change addresses

the birds that roost at dusk, and "sing," on Thanon Suthep
novacova replied to orang37's topic in Chiang Mai
In the night they will congregate in the cities where it’s warmer and less humidity/moisture. Very noisy right after dark, wouldn’t say it’s music unless one likes C grade junk metal “music”???? -
Best advice on yet another thread epitomizing why not to use an agent -on the lazy It’s easy enough for anyone who is half educated to do it on their own unless mentally or physically impaired. Too lazy to stand in line or take a drive, circumvent the rules…then have at it. No pity at all from this camp if something goes wrong. The further advise here is to those who are contemplating using an agent, not necessarily for the OP. Good grief! Don’t give your passport to anyone who is not a government official!
