The picture you show has a fuse position beside the left most socket immediately under the left most switch. There is no reason for that removable cover unless it is to allow for a fuse to be installed or replaced.
That is why I question if it is compliant as I know of no U.K. products that have such a cover where it is not for a fuse, and no U.K. socket would need one given that all U.K. plugs have fuses anyway.

Of course the picture is such low quality that there could be a different explanation, if so what is it?

Good catch, never noticed the 13A fuse and must admit have never seen one on a socket face-plate before. But that aside it's definitely MK and widely available in UK and fully compliant with UK regulations.

Correct! Before that they do that they try everything they can to convince/persuade you and your relatives that you are better off dying in the comfort of your own (or a relatives) home. That way, they only have to provide three fifteen minute visits by a nurse each day. It's all about money and freeing up beds for patients who can be treated. Very difficult to argue against.

    Absolute Slanderous Rubbish

That is certainly likely though the fuse in that version is almost certainly completely non standard, if not actually against the relevant regulations.

Sorry but what fuse are you talking about, there's no fuse in a socket outlet, it's protect by the fuse at the main distribution board. The product shown is a UK version manufactured by MK and fully compliant with all relevant regulations.

If he goes back the the UK, the NHS will put him on an 'end of life pathway.'
That is, if he can find a bed in an NHS facility.
As a 70 year old all I can say is that he should have thought this out way before this.  77 imho is the span of a good life.  He should get his affairs in order and seek to check out as painlessly as possible.  Heck, 70 is a good life span.  I just want to be relatively comfortable before I go.  No asking family in the US to 'save me.'  My chosen family is here.  I'll die here.

But, best of luck to Mr. John.

So your from the US and have the gall to slander the UK NHS. From your inane comment you obliviously have no idea about the NHS and the amazing service it provides. He would get a bed instantly and be provided with the best possible treatment "free of charge", he would be put on end of life care only if his condition deteriorated to a point where nothing else could be done.

    Static?

You cannot receive an electrical shock from plastic as it is not a conductor of electrical current. As for static it needs friction to occur. Only possible thing I can think of is that the socket has a metallic back box that is connected to earth and as such the socket steel retaining screws are also connected to earth. If there is an earth fault then it is possible the screw heads could be the culprit. The only way to find the problem is with a multi-meter.

@Lantern That that terminology I understand, however the characterisation of it as a U.K. unit and mention of “the socket”  means that exactly what configuration is meant is unclear.

the “UK 3 pin gang switch” is unclear as exactly to what it is, there are several different possibilities.

Image result for 3 gang 3 pin socket I assume this is what the op is referring to, maybe he can confirm.

Stupid? No buddy it can be their mistake. You obviously dont know much about transfers. Mistakes happen.

I never made a mistake. Others have. Yes 3 to 6 weeks depending upon bank and country. Banks told me that.

Smart people know mistakes happen. Only the stupid think they dont.

A new car costs $15,000 plus.

    Lose $1 who cares.

Only the foolish would move $50,000 without testing.

Smart people use due diligence to limit risk, stupid people don't.

Foolish. 1 typo you lost 20 grand. Take 3 weeks to get back.

    Send $1 to test.

    1.  If you're that stupid as to not double check that everything is correct then your problem.
    2. Explain how you lose 20 grand if you get it back in 3 weeks, although don't know where you get 3 weeks from or the amount of 20 grand, maybe you're speaking from experience, if so see point 1.
    3. Why send $1 to test? if you make a typo you've lost $1 for 3 weeks, or god forbid the $1 test works perfectly then you make a typo sending the other $19,999.

The op is correct there have been many cases where either the sender has make a mistake or the receiver when providing the bank details has incorrectly sent the wrong details

Measure twice, cut once. This is a car dealership the op is talking about not some online Facebook hiso wannabee, The dealership will provide correct bank details and amount to transfer which you then check as correct in the app and with the dealership before you hit confirm, if the op can't use a bit of due diligence and common sense then like I said should he really be driving a car.

I've been getting adverts from Expressvpn on my phone. I've not had problems yet with my IPTV provider, but it's cheap enough just to get it anyway.

Is there anything I have to do to get it to work with my Android box?  I don't want to screw things up.

ExpressVPN is one of the most expensive ones although it is very good. NordVPN and Surfshark are also very good but much cheaper.
To get set up do a google search for the VPN you want, open the VPN web page and create your account with username and password, you can now use VPN on your desktop/laptop. To set up on any android device (IPTV box, Tablet, Phone) go to playstore app, search for and download your VPN app, using your username and password log in to your account, from the list select which country server you want to use, job done.

So you should a legal marriage in Thailand is recognized by the UK govt. ????

Only recognised by the fact that you have a certified and translated copy of a foreign marriage certificate. A marriage conducted outside of the UK is not entered in to the UK registrar of BDMs.
But my question was about divorce not marriage. Can a UK court grant a decree nisi and absolute for a Thai marriage when such marriage is not officially registered in the UK but registered in Thailand? If it can be done then what happens to your marriage registration in Thailand, will they accept a certified and translated copy of the UK issued decree absolute? or will the process of divorce have to be undertaken in Thailand under Thai law as well?
Seems to me it is not a simple procedure.

I have friends who live and work in Bangkok, and pay decent cheap rent for apartments walking distance from public transport, shopping and entertainment. Not necessary more expensive living in Bangkok comparing to Pattaya which is the cheapest known western tourist destination among Chiang Mai. We are talking about studios ranging from 50 - 70m2 and prices below 10k up to 17,5k

Please note I said property prices not rental prices, that's a whole different ball game.
Yes I agree there are cheap rentals in BKK, yet there are extortionately expensive rentals as well, all depends on location.

It seems to me that the UK has nothing to do with it. A change of residence creates stress, which, as you said, leads to friction. The UK itself is a specific and rather expensive country, which is clearly not suitable for everyone.

The UK is a rather expensive country compared to what other country of a similar ilk?

I would think at least 4 thousand USD for UK.  I live in Thailand on. 2680 USD a month.

Depends on how you want to compare the two. If we take property out of the equation then the UK is much cheaper than Thailand based on having the same standard of living in each. If you want to adopt a typical Thai standard of living in Thailand then Thailand would be the cheaper. You need to compare apples with apples to get a clear perspective, which will show that overall the UK is the cheaper option. By the way many people have a decent lifestyle in the UK on less than 2680 USD per month.

Many Brits return to live in the U.K with a Thai wife. However their divorce rate is quite high. Some Thais can not adjust to life in the U.K. while others seem to change their thoughts on life and ideas, leading to friction.

Hmmm........can you provide evidence supporting the high divorce rate you state. Yes some Thais have a problem adapting, or not, to life in the UK but I think the vast majority are very happy.
Also be interested to learn how all these Brits who married a Thai in Thailand can actually get divorced in the UK?
