I quoted the web site - that's as official as I can get. Actually, I was thinking of going to the Immigration office in Phuket and asking them about it. Maybe I will today - I'm getting really bored. FYI, the rule has worked for me for the last two years - no insurance required.

I don't want to leave all these old shopping bags out for the dustman. I suppose I could put them in a big plastic bag like I do already for old glass, plastic and metal containers. But I was wondering if there was another worthy cause that would like them. They are fairly clean and new, mostly used just once or twice. Any suggestions?

Glad to see this topic is still open and not archived. The same garage as my post above (Hok Liam) just returned my pickup after changing the alternator. The alternator itself was badly corroded but the main problem was the cable between it and the engine - the insulation was dissolving (oil drips?) and caused 3 lights to come on, on the dashboard. The cable was also very hot - probably shorting out - and its connector virtually welded to the alternator. Just under 6,000 baht.

It just failed for me: Edit: I just deleted the AliExpress tab in Chrome, clicked on the URL (https://trade.aliexpress.com/orderList.htm) again, and I'm already logged in! Something weird is going on with them...
