They obviously don't read their book. In one of the first fairy tales, it was the serpent that told the truth. Adam and Eve did NOT die on the very day they ate the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. And they fail to even think about what their preachers have told them. Like, why were they punished for sinning BEFORE they had the knowledge of good and evil?

Big Joke Faces Asset Seizure in Online Gambling Case
NoDisplayName replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Hahahahahha!!!!!!!! Mystery solved! That explains why the return address on the official appointment reservation confirmation receipt email from immigration directs to: www.nakhonratchasima-imm.com Also explains why the email I sent to immigration HQ informing them of the redirect went unanswered. Also explains why the male supervisor we approached at immigration last week to report this just waved his hands and walked away. Can't say I'm shocked....... -
I ran into this in 2018 when first attempting to apply for a TIN in order to file returns to have withholding returned. Lady at the tax office (Bangkapi) warned me that the 800K remitted for visa might be taxable, without going into detail. Later that day, I learned about current year income and prior savings right here on this very forum. Thanks, guys!

Of course it is. Otherwise why include this on an open forum full of crusty old codgers? -
Why aren't they going through the Thai embassy? People die all'a time, embassies assist with repatriation, not 'local volunteers.' https://moscow.thaiembassy.org/en/index Shipping ashes can be done via some express delivery services, or hand carried by air. https://thailand.go.th/issue-focus-detail/001_01_183 Current budget flights, roundtrip Bangkok-Moskau is under 20,000 baht on China Eastern.

Maybe they could contact the Dhamma Dullabha Vipassana Meditation Center. https://www.dhamma.org/en/schedules/schdullabha This is one of the few centers for Theravada Buddhism in Russia. Located 100 km, east of Moscow, the center conducts ten-day courses in Vipassana Meditation, as taught by the late S. N. Goenka.

Don’t kill the golden goose! Tax reforms may drive away expats

My mistake. I forgot all tax returns are simplistic. The Yanks all have nothing to worry about then. -

Except when a tax clearance certificate is required for an extension, or for a tax resident to leave the country...... And that's it, you're done! -
In my case, no problem with the exchange rate. Thanks to uncertainty in the tax situation, all major purchase have been put off, and we'll be spending down Thai accounts - some remaining stocks, a couple savings accounts, and some bond mutual funds. The Hilux will last another decade. Probably have enough in those accounts for several years without transferring more. I'll just invest all my outside cash.........outside Thailand. Winning!

You missed the point. The IRS provides for certain allowances and deductions, as well as special rates on specific types of income, that Thailand does not recognize. Forget the 'taxable' amount after Thai deductions and allowances. This is about total assessable income. Assessable income under worldwide taxation will be all your income streams, disregarding IRS deductions and allowances. The DTA may cover certain types of pensions, but it does not include the IRS standard deduction, it does not include offsetting losses against gains, and it does not include IRS tax brackets on particular income streams. MY annual return ($0 due to IRS on $15K interest/dividends and $45 LTCG) will result in a $10,000 tax liability to Thailand on 2 million baht income, every year, with zero tax credit on my US return. That's assuming no losses were taken against capital gains, in which case the tax bill increases. Your kilometerage may vary. -
I arrived on 30-day visa waiver on the 8th, applied for non-O at CW on the 18th, did not need the 30-day extension. Had bank account with seasoned funds from a non-O extension that had expired a few years earlier due to being outside the kingdom during the covids. Proof of overseas transfer was not required.

Yes and no. O visa in country needs money in a Thai bank, same with extension. O-A visa in home country (you don't have a Thai bank account yet) needs equivalent money in a foreign bank. Upon extension, you need money in a Thai bank, same as with O visa extension. -

Would depend on your specific area and where or how far you ride. Not on a highway or dense city traffic, for sure. MTB should have longer chainstays than your racer. Rear axle will be further back, rack will sit further back, heels less likely to hit the saddlebags. You could also look at a different style rear rack, something adjustable that sits further back. It's also possible to fashion extension pieces that bolt onto the lower mounting bolts that move the rack up and back.

Wrong bike for the job. That's a street racer for fast training rides, not a touring bike, not a mountain bike, not a hybrid, not a commuter. Chain stays look too short, meaning the rear rack is pulled forward against the seatpost, meaning your heels will be hitting the saddlebags, which is why your feet stick out so far forwards. 28 spokes reduces weight for racing, but lowers the wheel strength. You don't want to carry too much extra baggage or risk spoke breakage. Specs don't show the cassette range, but the two front chain rings (50-34) are not suitable for carrying loads. If i were you, and didn't want to get to pull a trailer, I'd get your mountain bike refurbished use that as your commuter/grocery-getter. Some people think a trailer is dangerous in traffic, so depends on your circumstances. I pulled a BOB trailer (single wheel type) fully loaded across the US and the perimeter of Australia. No problems on flat land. You can increase the efficiency and lower weight by replacing your MTB mud tires with some thinner tires with a road tread. Something like Kenda 935. You should be fine with 26x1.75 https://www.lazada.co.th/products/kenda-26-195-275-29-i2887829374.html

That's correct. Your knees should be slightly bent at the bottom of the stroke, otherwise you risk knee injury. Your feet are probably too far forward on the pedals. You could try SPD type clip-on shoes that hold your feet on the correct spot over the pedal spindle. You could also go with old-fangled cages/straps to keep your feet correctly positioned, as long as you don't tighten the straps too much. Have you considered a bicycle cargo trailer? Attaches to the rear axle or chainstay or seatpost. Weighs about 15 pounds, can carry 60-70 pounds. Can you provide details? Make and model, frame size, wheel size?

Illegal Foreign Guide Assaults Chinese Tourist at Jewelry Store
NoDisplayName replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
This is how tour operators can offer package tours (flight, hotel, food, guide, bus+driver, entry fees) at bargain prices. They offer low-cost, all-inclusive 7-14 day packages with all your days planned out. That includes visiting one or two factories/outlets per day, in addition to the scenic sites. Not a scam, not fake products. Tour operators get a cut of purchases made, tour guides get a commission. -

You would assume wrongfully. There's a large minority of Chinese-descent Thais here, many who speak some form of Chinese. I found it very easy to deal with shopkeepers in Bangkok speaking mainly Mandarin plus half a dozen Thai numbers. Some colleges here run tourism programs where the students will learn "tourism English" and/or "tourism Mandarin" in addition to tour guide and tour management courses.
